January 29, 201510 yr Alec Scheiner on Adam the Bull right now saying.... NEW BROWNS UNIFORMS TO BE REVEALED BEFORE THE DRAFT.
February 2, 201510 yr Johnny Manziel has checked into a rehab facility, supposedly for his drinking problem.
February 2, 201510 yr Congrats Johnny. If you welcome the help, accept your mortality and isolate your demons, treatment can be the start of the best part of your life. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

February 2, 201510 yr This makes me slightly more optimistic about next year and give me a sliver of hope that he can still be our QB savior! But then again, who am I kidding... It really is a good sign. I wish for him strength and support to get through this and progress. I'm sure he very we'll wants to play at this level, and his habits are getting in his way. He knows that. Very similar to what Brett Favre went through after his release from the Falcons at that age.

He knows that. Very similar to what Brett Favre went through after his release from the Falcons at that age. I do compare Johnny's early tribulations to Favre's, but Brett was traded to the Packers for a first round pick even though he had been a second round pick for the Falcons. It speaks well that Johnny went into rehab before the game, allegedly turning down a six figure offer to host a casino's Super Bowl party.
February 2, 201510 yr He realized his brand was in the toilet. Im sure that was the motivation, but if something positive comes of it, I don't care the reasons why he went.
February 2, 201510 yr This may all be a publicity stunt. Our it could be him realizing that Josh Gordon's career-at-risk could soon be his. If he's an addict, you can never trust him just as you should never trust me. The only way you can tell if an addict is being truthful is to judge his actions in retrospect. So let's see where he is tomorrow. And the next day. Then the next day after that... February 3, 201510 yr Total speculation, but is there anything to the suspicion that maybe Johnny failed some league test for substance abuse? Those results are kept confidential.... especially a 'step 1' failure, right?
February 3, 201510 yr Total speculation, but is there anything to the suspicion that maybe Johnny failed some league test for substance abuse? Those results are kept confidential.... especially a 'step 1' failure, right? That's certainly possible. But again, someone going in grudgingly would have held out for "one last fling", especially if they were going to get paid north of one hundred grand to do so.
February 3, 201510 yr ^Not if you are already in the league's program and risk a suspension, which would blow the lid off the first violation.
February 3, 201510 yr ^Not if you are already in the league's program and risk a suspension, which would blow the lid off the first violation. If I'm not mistaken, a second violation is not cancelled out by going into re-hab.
February 3, 201510 yr ^Exactly. So IF (again, total speculation) he violated the policy and was placed in the program, he would not go out for 'one last fling' before going into rehab because it could result in a SECOND violation and a much harsher penalty

So IF (again, total speculation) he violated the policy and was placed in the program, he would not go out for 'one last fling' before going into rehab because it could result in a SECOND violation and a much harsher penalty Perhaps, if one assumes that he's not allowed to drink at all "in the program"....but if I'm not mistaken he was publicly drinking on a few occasions since the season ended.
February 4, 201510 yr josh gordon in his own words: https://medium.com/the-cauldron/an-open-letter-to-charles-barkley-co-cb5c4e64cf3 well, those were probably some publicist's words, but close enough...!
February 4, 201510 yr And the beat goes on..... now we are facing a possible loss of draft pick(s) because Ray Farmer was texting the sideline from the box, a clear violation of league rules. Unbelievable.
February 4, 201510 yr I feel bad for Pettine. He is the most stable thing about the organization and he is probably pissed because he was probably forced to play Manziel and if they were texting from the suite, thats some crappy micromanaging.
February 4, 201510 yr Boy am I glad that I wrote the city, faxed the NFL and did my part in the fight to keep the Browns name, colors and history here back in 1995 -- NOT! I am having serious buyers remorse with Browns 2.0. From 1996-1998, the Browns were technically a "franchise in suspension". My suggestion is for the NFL to suspend it again, force Haslam to sell the team, and start over AGAIN. Otherwise, just move the damn team to LA or London. I can't take this drama anymore. I've lost confidence. For the first time since the Browns returned in 1999, I don't even care who we draft or sign in free-agency because I no longer have any confidence the Browns will make the right selections. Consider that our top free-agency signing last year was RB Ben Tate and when was the last time the Browns had a first-round draft pick make the Pro Bowl? Joe Thomas?? I was thinking along the same lines the other day. The Browns have sucked save for two seasons my ENTIRE ADULT LIFE. I can't take this team seriously anymore- and I'm Pro-Cleveland everything.
February 4, 201510 yr ^^Haden There's always an exception to the rule. Having two years with two #1 draft picks since 2012 that were all busts or are on a fast-track to stinking up the joint overwhelms the exception. Those four draft picks should have built a strong foundation for any team with some semblance of competency. Instead, so far it's done zip. Meanwhile the Baltimore Browns have won two Super Bowls. February 4, 201510 yr Awful news all around today. The evidence just keeps showing an organization in perpetual disarray. Is there any reason for any rational adult to be a Browns fan?

Lombardi's his buddy.
February 5, 201510 yr That's funny. Someone else told me the same thing. Regardless if it's partly true or completely fabricated, the organization seems like a complete disaster right now.
February 5, 201510 yr I have never been impressed with him when he is on 92.3. Despite whatever part(s) of the article are true, the whole thing feels like a smear campaign. Edit: I am only defending the Browns organization from the attack, not their incompetence.
February 5, 201510 yr It's pretty clear Lombardi is LaCanfora's main source when it comes to the Browns. But the fact is the Browns haven't had a winning season in 7+ years. Regardless of the fact that we don't have good luck drafting first round talent the last 2-3 years the browns have had more pro bowl talent actually make the pro bowl than in years past. Eye for first round talent? Not so much. Eye for talent period? Seeing how many people have been selected to the pro bowl in recent years a legit argument could be made that we at least have that.

It could be said that our top free agent signing was Isaiah Crowell, who indeed was a big part of why Tate left. Kirksey was a major find and the D is one run stopper away from being elite, especially if Gilbert wakes up which is not unprecedented among second and even third year players. The offense was hurt by Hoyer's inconsistency and Mack's injury. Injuries happen, but losing a Pro Bowler that is the play caller on the offensive line has to hurt. As for La Canfora's story, just one small example of how a reporter with an agenda can blow something up. Suppose Scheiner came in early (for whatever reason) one Monday and was invited to sit it on the film. Lombardi hears about this, and feeds it to LC, either exaggerating it himself or having it done for him.
February 6, 201510 yr The Browns were dead last against the run last year and they're "1" run stopper away? Rubin will not be back, Armonty Bryant (whom I like) will be trying to come back from ACL & MCL tear, and don't expect much out of Taylor. I would say the Browns are 3-4 players away in the front 7 from being elite; a couple down lineman and an elite pass rusher. Offensively, Greco & Schwartz are below avg players, Cameron wants out, and all of our WR's are under 5'8". Then QB #21 or 22 was blamed for inconsistency, while I would say the team and overall franchise around the QB position is what remained wildly inconsistent. I'd say the Browns are 5-6 players always from legitimately competing for the division, pretty much where they've been for the last 15+ years.
February 6, 201510 yr I'd say the Browns are 5-6 players always from legitimately competing for the division, pretty much where they've been for the last 15+ years. Amen brother. And your mention of Cameron wanting to bolt says it all. There is a guy that would be a superstar in the old Browns organization. A "Gronk" for all Cleveland to adore. Instead he's going to run to another team to get away from the follies happening around our front office. Sad...

I used to give this franchise unconditional support, but not any more, it's time for tough love.
February 6, 201510 yr I don't like Cameron. Never have. He is a pretty boy, basketball player trying to play football. I've never seen Gronk 'alligator arm' a ball the way Cameron sometimes does. Plus, he is an awful run blocker. Overrated player who will shut it down once he gets paid IMHO. The Browns were dead last against the run last year Not in rushing yds per attempt. Near the bottom, but not dead last. In 2013, they were top 10 in that category. They were dead last in total rushing yards allowed because they had nearly 100 more rushing attempts against them than the next closest team. I think losing Phil was a big part of that, as well as the loss of other DLs which thinned out our depth. But also Dansby's absence and Gipson's injury. The biggest factor, as always, was the game situations the offense (or lack thereof) put the defense in. I'm not worried about our defense. Give them a competent offense which can keep them off the field for more than 3 plays and they will be just fine.

All teams have to deal with injuries and the Browns lack elite playmakers and depth in the front 7 to deal with injuries. How old will Dansby be this year btw? I wouldn't expect him making it through a season without getting injured at this stage in his career. The Defense (as usual) was gashed early and often on the ground, not just late in games, just as they have since the return. Part of the reason the Defense was on the field longer was the Defense itself, they need to get themselves off the field. Also, yards/carry is also skewed because team's got leads and the Browns knew they were going to run.

February 10, 201510 yr Browns zeroing in on Marcus Mariota? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000469729/article/cleveland-browns-zeroing-in-on-marcus-mariota? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 11, 201510 yr mariota is not going to be good. Agree, I can't picture him as an NFL hurler. I'd be more excited if the Browns were looking to get Colt McCoy back.
February 11, 201510 yr I certainly don't want us to trade our two #1's to get him. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 11, 201510 yr I certainly don't want us to trade our two #1's to get him. That would be ridiculous. In fact, I wouldn't want us to burn our 12 on him. 19, maybe. IMNSHO, there's no evidence he's going to be significantly better (if at all) than Manziel at this level.
February 11, 201510 yr ^I think he's supposed to have a strong work ethic/character. He's quite a bit taller, too. And his TD/INT ratio is impressive. I don't know that I'd burn both first rounds, but if he's there at 12 (I doubt it), I think we'd be crazy not to take him.
February 12, 201510 yr As I said last year, if the Browns truly don't believe they have their franchise quarterback, use both first round picks to take the best available quarterbacks. Go into Spring Training with a wide open competition. Best case we end up with everyone doing great and can trade for what else we need. Worst case we have yet another year of misery. If we had done this last year, we would have had Bridgewater or Carr. Both are better than Manziel. Any decent free agent quarterback is going to avoid the Browns because of all the dysfunction. We better hope that Hoyer is willing to look past Textgate and give them one more chance.
