More reason to hope he comes home.  Iggy kids know how to be coached.

I was wondering if Shaq Washington was going to get picked but apparently the NCAA gave him another year of eligibility after he missed most of a season due to injury.  Ironically, Devonte Ransom had the same thing happen at Maple.

Three picks in the 6th.  If La'eel Collins is there with the first one, grab him.  He's not considered a suspect, and they don't need him but he's a hell of an addition if he's cleared.

I'm hoping they snag Jake Ryan, a TTUN linebacker I'm very happy to see graduate. He has some issues, but they are all coachable.

For a moment I thought you were talking about Molly Ringwald's love interest in 16 Candles! Yes, the 80s has never ended.

The Browns found some tremendous potential in this draft. Most of these guys had great production college. A few fell to later in the draft due to injuries or due to overall depth and the guys from the bigger schools got snapped up first. Whoever is the Browns West Coast scout(s) really did their homework.

The CB from Oregon (not gonna try to spell his name) was a good calculated risk in the 7th.  Top level talent but might not be available this year. If he recovers well, it will be like we traded that pick for a 2016 2nd rounder

Fingers crossed the WR we took early yesterday, Vince Mayle, is a steal.  Good measurables and film.

I guess Ray was thinking Defense in this draft. I can't believe how many complain about a draft, like they are GM's. What and see what these guys can do

We had to fix the defensive front, it was garbage.  Mission probably accomplished.  We should get a lot more sacks this year now that Pettine's scheme is properly populated.  I also think we upgraded our WR group significantly enough in FA to provide reasonable balance on offense.  And the more I read about Duke Johnson, the higher his ceiling sounds.  Jamaal Charles or LeSean McCoy type potential.

Good thing no one ever drinks while golfing.... ;)

Ray Farmer: Manziel 'seems dialed in and focused'

By Marc Sessler

Around the NFL Writer

Everyone wants to ask Ray Farmer about the quarterbacks.

That's exactly what happened on Wednesday, when the Browns general manager told NFL Network's NFL Total Access how Josh McCown won the team over in free agency.

"I think it's the experience factor," said Farmer in an interview that will air Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network. "When you look at Josh McCown, the guy's played in the National Football League, he's had his relative glimpses of success and, for us, we like the fact that his skill set (fits) what he can accomplish in this offense."

The Browns, of course, have a new coordinator in John DeFilippo, but we don't expect the team's approach to alter drastically from Kyle Shanahan's 2014 attack. Still lacking a premier passer, Cleveland is a candidate to lead the AFC in carries, with Farmer saying that "our offensive line gives us a competitive advantage."

Johnny Manziel's rookie year could largely be summed up as unsuccessful, both on the field and off it.

What are his expectations in Year 2? What perceptions do general managers around the league have about Manziel?

Watch as Stephen Nelson and Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Cole discuss Manziel's future in Cleveland in the video above.

How are we letting this moment pass us by on this forum without comment.  I'll get it started.....

I heard the water bottle had good spin on it, but was off-target because he threw it off his back foot.

Browns personnel said they were pleased he was able to throw it over the heads of his friends who stepped in to protect him.

when i heard this the first thing i thought was thats exactly how ryan leaf woulda handled it.

^Or 'Joey' Belle...... except Joey wouldn't have missed his mark

And if he had missed, he would have run him down with his car!

Well, I think it's just terrible that Mr. Football was goaded by this young punk who was a whole four years his junior and wasn't able to contain his temper. Why, if I was in his shoes I would have been much more sedate and docile and... wait. Never mind!!

I would have run him over with a golf cart and if he was still breathing or twitching, I would have used a 9-iron to convince him to never threaten my Snickers again. ;)

EDIT: BTW if the Redskins learned they could get under Manziel's skin before, can you imagine what other teams may be thinking now?

You're a real hoot

I think it's time for the Johnny Football experience in Cleveland to be over. He has shown over and over again that he is incapable of going anywhere without creating a spectacle, and it is exhausting. He's currently a backup QB with, from what I've seen, very little upside but a tremendous distraction on a team that has plenty of other issues.

If (and I do mean if) he's ever going to be a good player in this league, it isn't going to happen here. The Browns have too many other issues they're dealing with to devote the resources needed to get this kid on the straight and narrow. He needs to be on a team that doesn't need him, and that has a coach / management with sufficient gravitas that he'd listen to. As much as I hate to say it, the Patriots would be a good spot for him, as there would be absolutely zero expectation that he'd start over Brady. He could sit for a couple years and deflate that giant ego, and hopefully learn enough to be able to contribute down the line.

As long as he's in Cleveland, there will be a contingent that is clamoring for him to start, and as long as he thinks we need him, he's going to continue his shenanigans.

I'm honestly more worried about his on-field issues than his off-field issues at this point.  He hasn't exactly drawn rave reviews for his body of work at OTA's.  The water bottle thing probably wouldn't have made the news if it wasn't Johnny and stuff like that happens.  By all accounts, the 'fan' was being a real A-hole and wouldn't let up.  So, with that said, I'm not all that concerned that he threw the water bottle...... I'm concerned that he missed.

How about some football (or at least the OTA version of it)?

While Cleveland was watching the Cavs, the Browns were doing some good things in last week's OTAs. This week is mandatory minicamp....

More good news on Manziel (and Gabriel and Duke) from Caplan:

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl 9m9 minutes ago

My money would be on Duke Johnson to be a 3-down RB for the Browns, but he needs to show he can take next step with pads on.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl 12m12 minutes ago

Duke Johnson has been the most impressive of their RBs. Versatility and explosiveness shows. Will be an interesting RB camp battle.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl 12m12 minutes ago

Taylor Gabriel has been the best WR in OTAs, very consistent.

Browns trade for punter Andy Lee, release Spencer Lanning

6/6/2015

Jeremy Fowler, ESPN Senior NFL Writer

The Cleveland Browns are moving on from punter Spencer Lanning in favor of 11-year NFL veteran Andy Lee, whom the team acquired in a trade with San Francisco, the 49ers announced Saturday.

The Browns traded a seventh-round pick in 2017, sources said, for the rights to Lee and released Lanning. Lee is a three-time Pro Bowler who was no longer in the 49ers' plans after the team drafted Clemson punter Bradley Pinion in the fifth round.

"For the last 11 years, Andy has been a tremendous representative of the 49ers organization both on the field and in the community," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "While he may be best known for his production on the field, we have come to know Andy as a great teammate and family man. We would like to thank Andy for his commitment to this organization, while wishing him and his family continued success throughout his career and beyond."

Tashaun Gipson signs his Cleveland Browns tender, will join the team for minicamp Tuesday

By Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group

on June 12, 2015 at 7:47 PM, updated June 13, 2015 at 7:23 AM

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Pro Bowl safety Tashaun Gipson's contract stand is over. He signed his second-round tender Friday and will join the Browns at mandatory minicamp Tuesday.

If Gipson plays out the tender, he'll make $2.356 million this year. A fourth-year pro, Gipson expressed his dismay that the Browns didn't give him the first-round tender ($3.347 million) by skipping voluntary workouts and working out at home in Dallas.

His absence also made it clear that he wanted a long-term deal. The two sides can continue to negotiate an extension, but Gipson won't miss any more valuable practice time.

Not a big fan of Bleacher Report even though I used to write for them, but I am a fan of Sobo. Here's a long article of his that's worth reading....

Josh McCown, Not Johnny Manziel, Could Be Difference in Browns Making Playoffs

By Brent Sobleski , NFL Draft Analyst Jun 22, 2015

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2499878-josh-mccown-not-johnny-manziel-could-be-difference-in-browns-making-playoffs

Toward the end of the article, he summarizes the Browns as....

Along with one of the game's top offensive lines, the Browns now feature a very deep and talented defensive front. The secondary is among the league's best. General manager Ray Farmer upgraded the wide receiver position despite lingering concerns over how the team's recent veteran signings will perform. And DeFilippo is expected to build a run-heavy scheme featuring the franchise's young stable of running backs.

The final piece remains the quarterback position.

So the Cleveland Browns sign Terrell Pryor as a wide receiver.... And he instantly becomes the Browns QB of the future!! ;)

Now the Browns can be the third Ohio football team to cut ties with Pryor!!

So the Cleveland Browns sign Terrell Pryor as a wide receiver.... And he instantly becomes the Browns QB of the future!! ;)

It should amaze me that people are so negative about his ability to make the position switch when it's such a common one.

Then I remember how Browns fans are....

[color=]It should amaze me that people are so negative about his ability to make the position switch when it's such a common one.

It's not just Browns fans that question Pryor.  Just look at his track record:

- Outstanding high school QB who physically dominated at this level and became a highly-sought recruit

- Adequate college QB who got by on his physical ability

- Inadequate pro QB who couldn't get by on his physical ability

And for his position change from QB to WR:  When previously asked why he didn't make this position change earlier, Pryor's response was "I don't catch well".

Now, that being said, I don't blame the Browns for taking a chance on Pryor at WR.  It's a low-risk move at a position of need for them.  Maybe Pryor can recreate some of that "Johnny Football" magic from A&M when Manziel would chuck it downfield and 6'-5" Mike Evans would out-jump everyone.  And if it doesn't work, then the Browns would just be the 5th NFL team to cut Pryor from their roster.

That's a common problem converted QBs have, but it's one that's fixable.

Catching a football is about 10% hand strength, 10% hand flexibility, and 80% the ability to focus and concentrate.  Quarterbacks have to learn not to focus on one receiver.  For a convert, it's a matter of unlearning as well as reestablishing that skill.

Do the Browns intend to use Terrelle Pryor as a “slash-player”?

Posted by Mike Florio on June 30, 2015, 7:24 AM EDT

Before he was claimed on waivers by the Browns, quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor seemed to be wrestling with the transition, in one breath vowing to become a great receiver while in the next breath posting highlights of his practice performances as a quarterback with the Bengals. (To the chagrin of the Bengals.)

When the Browns claimed Pryor, the official release from the team made clear that he’ll “compete for a roster spot at wide receiver,” with no mention of perhaps being a change-of-pace quarterback.

That made Pryor’s recent remarks to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review even more intriguing. In saying that he will “give this slash-player deal a chance,” Pryor implied that he will be doing something more than competing for a roster spot at wide receiver, and that he’ll be doing something less than converting from quarterback to receiver.

What is a "slash-player"?

I looked around online with no results

Kordell Stewart was the original. Basically a QB capable of playing other skill positions.

We are all a little guilty of that.  It's human nature in these parts.

Except that I do think I will see a Browns championship in my lifetime. Hope springs eternal! Besides, I don't watch the Browns because I expect them to win. I watch them because I love football and I've been watching the Browns since I was a kid in the 1970s. They have been an inseparable part of my life since I was 12 and when they weren't in my life for the three years in the late 1990s, it left a big hole for me.

Truth be told, my favorite time of the year Browns-wise is training camp. Sure, a big part of that is that its the only time of the Browns season that optimism rules. But I also like seeing kids pursue dreams of winning a spot on an NFL team, so I follow those kids and cheer for them. I was the same way when the Browns were winning in the 1980s. But I also remember from the 1980s that there was nothing better than seeing the town come alive as the team won a spot in the playoffs and had a legit shot at the Super Bowl. You youngin's who have only seen the town react to the Cavs or the Indians reaching the championship games haven't seen anything yet.
