Saturday night, drinking a Great Lakes beer post-draft, John Dorsey looked at me and vowed: “We will awaken the sleeping giant.”

My @SINow story on the Browns.

Rosen is getting the Cutler comparisons

^while not a reasonable offense to not draft someone. I’ve read enough. Good call, we don’t need all this pettiness and child drama on the team

Lolwut

Oh sorry, i thought the Xbox and frat party thing was real.  Reading it again.  Yeah its odd but whatever, Dorsey knows more than we do

Dorsey essentially took him off the board because he met the UCLA volleyball team in an airport and he asked the coach about Rosen who told him his girlfriend would know best?

I'm skeptical about Dorsey based on that story alone.

I can see it based on tone of voice and "I'm not touching this one...."

"Let's be real. Vontae Mack got three concussions in the first eight games, Brian Drew's knee blew out Week 3, Ray Jennings's buddies came to hang with him in Cleveland and caused all sorts of drama, and David Putney got chronic fumbleitis after a cheap shot from James Harrison. Bo Callahan grew up, blew up, and won multiple Super Bowls. #SayGoodbyeToHollywood #ThisIsCleveland."

If he stays clean, I expect Antonio Callaway to eventually beat out Corey Coleman. Maybe not at the start of the season, but he has a burst and YAC potential that can win for him that job. There's a still a long way with these high-risk talents, but Josh Gordon and Callaway on the outside, and Coleman with Jarvis Landry (probably the only reliable WR at this point) in the slot has me excited for the future.

Apparently ESPN doesn't know who LT Desmond Harrison is, or that he signed a FA contract with the Browns. But if he can learn some technical ability (and stay clean) to go along with that dominating physical ability, he's going to be a starter in this league. And the Browns didn't draft Austin Corbett one spot out of the first round just so he can be a utility OL. He has the technical ability that Harrison (and many OL draftees) lack.

ESPN thinks TJ Carries is going to beat out EJ Gaines for a starting corner spot? TJ is good, but EJ is better. Maybe ESPN is getting these two confused because of their initialed first names??

This article was published this morning at 9 a.m. Did the writer Pat McManamon not get the memo that LB Dominique Alexander was waived?? BTW, watch LB Genard Avery eventually win a starting job.

This is a tweet of an Instagram post by Mayfield's girlfriend Emily Wilkinson. Man, this kid's drive. I absolutely love it. So much desire to learn the Browns playbook to leave a bed containing that fine lady. <<sniffles back the tears>> That's my quarterback....

They're certainly not the same player or person. But if a city loses a mayor to a corruption scandal, you do know subsequent mayors will be (rightly) judged under a closer microscope.

Thankfully, he'll have a year to sit and learn behind Tyrod Taylor, who is a consummate professional and a man of great moral character.

Short quarterback that won the Heisman playing in a major conference partly by running a lot, and doesn't always show good judgement?

Yeah, completely unfair.

yep and that is the crux -- they drafted too many midgets. its not a .500 team despite some media hype. reasonable would be three wins next season.

Ehhh, I'd bet the over on 5.5. But I agree, .500 is asking way too much at this point.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Browns will be featured on Hard Knocks this summer. Looks like I'm getting HBO.

I went to camp Friday and Saturday.    Saw a lot of kid activities and of course puppies, but I did see enough to know HK is extremely disruptive.  I almost wished my crew was like we were in 2005 (when we had our very own police officer assigned to us) so we could have chanted some things at their microphones.

I'm convinced they are why Josh isn't in camp and the team either approves or it was their idea.

So, having played in college, the last few years when I've gone to camp, I've seen some demonstrably bad NFL teams and my eye for the game quickly overcame my eternal optimism as a Browns fan.

That doesn't seem to be the case this year. At all.

I didn't think I'd ever be saying these words. But the Browns are loaded.

Myles Garrett x Jamie Collins x Chris Kirksey x Emmanuel Ogbah x Joe Schobert is a FORMIDABLE pass rush. While our secondary is improved, its still average at best, in my opinion. Having a prolific pass rush like that will quickly make them above average.

Our offensive skill positions are also loaded. Njoku will be one of the best TE's in the NFL, soon. Hyde x Johnson x Chubb will be a problem for defenses. Not to mention, Jarvis Landry x Josh Gordon with a quarterback that is accurate. Our offensive line is still green and I think we'll see more zone combo blocks as the year goes on to compensate, as well as a lot of 12 and 22 personnel to leave Vitale or Hyde to block.

I doubt Hue Jackson as a head coach, but with Todd Haley and Gregg Williams as our coordinators, the Browns are in REALLY good hands this year, you guys. If you're a betting man, go find your bookie or take a trip to a sports book and throw everything you have on the OVER for the Browns 5.5 wins.

Agree with your assessment. This is the first time this century the team has NFL-level talent across the board. Really this season is all about coaching, finding out if Hue and co. can outfox the opposition.

Also, look out for Mychal Kendricks and Genard Avery. Kirksey is good against the run but bad against the pass. Collins also gets burned by TEs. Kendricks doesn't and, so far, Avery is looking like the steal of the draft. I'll bet that Collins and Kirksey will eventually lose their jobs.

The OL looks pretty sound. Eventually I think Tretter loses his job to Corbett, although Tretter has bulked up this offseason. Hubbard looks fine at RT and Coleman was a two-year starter at Auburn at LT. He has the length, power and quickness for the position but needs help with his technique. Well, one of the best LT technicians in history is helping him with that, as is Myles Garrett who is practicing against him. The Browns will probably use TE Darren Fells, who is an exceptional blocker, to help Coleman if he shows he's having trouble with a proficient edge rusher. Look for Josh Gordon to come back on or before Aug. 7, which is when a player under contract must report to his team to earn an accrued season for free agency. Njoku is having a so-so camp while Coleman and Higgins are having a good camp so far. I'd still feel more comfortable adding a free-agent WR. I just don't trust Gordon.

And I don't trust Hue either. I'm glad he's not involved in the offensive playcalling anymore. But the guy refused a personal foul penalty last year and couldn't manage timeouts to save his life. He's going to cost us more close games. I'll be amazed and disappointed if he's still the coach after after the bye week.

Pretty interesting in Cleveland. The belief within the Browns organization is they are a playoff caliber type team and will be interested in short term players to help achieve a winning culture in 2018

If ever there were a year, our AFC North division seems particularly weak going into this season.  It could easily be one of those years where the winner of the AFC north barely eeks out a .500 record.

It's funny... the Ravens could go 11-5 or 5-11 and either way I wouldn't be surprised.

Trivia time....

How many times has an NFL team had a winless season one year and a winning record the next?

Only once. The 1922 Columbus Panhandles were 0-8. The next season, as the Tigers, they were 5-4-1. Maybe the Browns should change their name too in order to help bring better fortunes?

The Rams are all we need to see. Going from 2-14(?) to 13-3...

Didn't the Cowboys once go from 1-15 to the playoffs in one season?

Edit: number

That was a nice turnaround, but it wasn't from an undefeated.

A more relevant, stunning turnaround was the one by the Kansas Chiefs from 2012 (2-14) to 2013 (11-5). The GM who led that turnaround was John Dorsey, who was hired the day after the 2012 season ended.

You mean 1-15? No, they were 1-15 in 1989 and 7-9 the next.

Yeah 1 - 15.  oops

Could everything that is happening with Gordon, Coleman and OBJ’s agents just now giving up on a contract extension be related??

In other words, could a Gordon OBJ trade work out for everyone? Cap space, money for Gordon, long term contract for OBJ, maybe a puck involved

This would reunite Landry, OBJ and their LSU coach

Oh,BTW, Jarvis Landry tells clevelandotcom that his good friend and #Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. would 'be up for playing for' the #Browns https://t.co/UB7sN9edhp

^OBJ is the last thing we need on a roster this young.

Coleman fetched a 2020 7th round pick lmao.  First rounder in 2016 turns into a 2020 7th round pick.  Amazing asset management.

The Browns had 11 first round picks from 2009-2016.  All of them are gone from the team.  It's truly remarkable what the team can squander.

Very Stable Genius

The only thing I can think about Coleman is that he was never Hue's guy and was one of Sachi's picks. Hue may only want his guys and now that he is full control, it is his guys or bust.

We shall see. Definitely not great asset management on paper though.

This is a culture changer.

I remember my junior year of college we cut a kid from the team who undoubtebly would've led us in tackles and sacks. He had a sh***y attitude about everything. Although we lost an unbelievably talented OLB, the team and culture were better off.

By the way, he transferred to an FCS school afterwards and was kicked off that team as well.

I think the Browns are going to surprise people this year.  I’m not a Browns fan but i will actually enjoy watching this team knowing they won’t embarrass themselves. This is a passing league and really has been for 30+ years and the Browns have not had a good qb that was a legit starter since 1996 or so. They now have absolute terrors as wide receivers.  I really don’t see many holes on this team at this point.  Certainly they will get punished this season for rookie mistakes as it is a young team.  I see the Browns as an up and coming .500 team.

I think they'll be much better and much much more competitive. Even so I look at the schedule and see maybe 6 wins. If they manage to go 8-8 that would be like the Superbowl for this franchise.

He's not a great locker room guy, especially in adversity. There will be down times this year, and getting through them requires strong leaders - which is a HUGE reason Tyrod and Drew Stanton were brought in - in addition to what they offer on the field.
