August 7, 20186 yr This is a passing league and really has been for 30+ years and the Browns have not had a good qb that was a legit starter since 1996 or so. Still true in 2018, no? I believe that both Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield are legit starters for most NFL teams. I don’t think that Tyrod is a particularly good passer however he is a good game manager and he is elusive in the pocket. Browns also this year have a good offensive coordinator that won’t get the offense into trouble and constantly have to punt. What killed the Browns last year was the defense having to play so many minutes. Offense coordinator gets the concept of ball control. That is the game inside the game.
August 7, 20186 yr I don't know much about COleman, but did he have a bad attitude? From Orange & Brown report.... By the end of the 2017 NFL Season Hue Jackson was basically "done" with Corey Coleman and let John Dorsey, Todd Haley and anyone else that would listen know it. The Browns hoped the additions of Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor and Haley would help Coleman come along on the field. In some ways, it did. Landry and Coleman formed a good bond and Coleman worked to improve his diet and other routines to be like Landry. It wasn't enough. The biggest on the field issue that led to yesterday's trade was not drops or injuries but his inability to "get it" when it came to the nuances of playing the receiver position. Examples given to The OBR: - Unable to run multiple, crisp, precise routes - Unable to learn how to use his hands off the line - Unable to set up defenders with his head, feet and body as a way to open himself up - Incorrect reads of defenses in zone or man where he should have sat down but kept a route going or vice versa - Not recognizing leverage of corners or safeties to know where to go - "He knows how to win with speed and/or strength but none of the other nuances he needs." For the Browns, especially for Tyrod and Baker Mayfield, there was a lack of reliability on the field. This Insider has no information about any possible off the field, attitude or locker room problems but, as seen with Josh Gordon, the team can have patience when it wants to with that stuff. Coleman's limitations on the field were too much for a team that wants to compete for a Playoff spot this season. August 7, 20186 yr ^Not to disagree with OBR, because they're great. But I've got first hand knowledge of this particular situation with Coleman. He's a dynamic talent. With a better attitude, he's still around and worth the coaching.
August 8, 20186 yr And less than a week after trading away Coleman, giving Callaway the opportunity of a lifetime. So Browns.... The more things change, the more they stay the same. August 8, 20186 yr Me two weeks ago- "Man, our receiving corps is stacked with young talent!" Me today...just shaking my head.
August 8, 20186 yr A popular morning radio show down here was discussing how much talent the Browns have on their team this year and were envious that the Dolphins are not in the same position. Sorry for being a pessimist amongst all this optimism but I’ll believe it when I see it. :-\

Sorry for being a pessimist amongst all this optimism but I’ll believe it when I see it. :-\ Talent wise this year, the Browns are top 16 in the NFL. I think this only holds true if Gordon and Landry are both on the roster, though. Garrett, Collins, Bitonio, Njoku, Hyde, Landry, Gordon, Johnson, Schobert, Kirskey, Tretter, and Zeitler are all Pro Bowl caliber players. Putting that all together and changing a culture, now that's a bigger question
August 8, 20186 yr It feels like every off-season people speculate the Browns will win 5-7 games. The Madden simulated 2018 season has them winning 8 games. That would be like the winning the superbowl for this franchise.

If the 2017 Buffalo Bills can reach the playoffs, who is to say the Browns can't? Other then Ben Roethlisberger I guess.
August 8, 20186 yr Barring a rash of injuries at various important positions i expect at least 7 wins for the Browns because the talent level and professionalism they now have. They don’t have a bunch of high end number 1 picks that are just there to stroke their own egos and get paid. The linebackers on the browns are probably the best ever. The WRs are the best ever. All other positions are solid if maybe a bit inexperienced. It will be really hard for this team to screw this up getting at least 6 wins.

August 12, 20186 yr i voted for 3 wins. if its 6 as far as im concerned we won the freakin super bowl. after the first pre season giants game i now have the usual cautious optimism.
August 12, 20186 yr I know very little about football and casually watch if I'm at a Cleveland pub. Put me down for 2-14.
August 13, 20186 yr I'm in 1-2 category. So I can be pleasantly surprised, but also leave open the door for having failed to predict true continuing perfection.
August 13, 20186 yr Browns roster/talent ARE better this year. If this roster wore any other uniform, it would be getting some love as a playoff contender. Two things going against it -- 1. Hue Jackson 2. Tough schedule. Two things that could remedy that -- 1. Todd Haley as a buffer 2. This year's schedule is based on last year's performances. This is why I don't like to predict the future. So if I were a betting man, I'd bet the same way I invest -- in the competency of the people to get through difficult situations. I believe the Browns now have two QBs who have the mental and physical toughness to overcome adversity. They also have a few other players to get through the tough times -- Landry, Hyde, Ward, Randall, Kendricks and probably others but I don't know enough about them to say whether they have the mental and physical ability to get through big challenges. Still a lot of unknowns on this team that has almost half of its roster new. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 13, 20186 yr Also, I'd like to say this to the "Pumpkinheads" of the world. We finally have a healthy, competent, talented QB room. Keep it that way, let Baker sit and develop. Lest we forget, the mouthbreather contingent of Browns fans were the entire reason Johnny Manziel went in for Hoyer when we were 7-4.
August 13, 20186 yr ^Wasn't last year's schedule based on 2016 performance? I don't think NFL teams "earn" certain schedules based on their prior year's performance. They rotate which divisions in each conference they play. Also, I'd like to say this to the "Pumpkinheads" of the world. We finally have a healthy, competent, talented QB room. Keep it that way, let Baker sit and develop. Lest we forget, the mouthbreather contingent of Browns fans were the entire reason Johnny Manziel went in for Hoyer when we were 7-4. It's easily the best QB room the Browns have had since the savvy veteran Gary Danielson and exciting rookie Bernie Kosar joined Paul McDonald in the QB room of 1985. I was excited then and I'm excited now, but we had an awesome defense then, a very capable head coach and a tremendous running game. What we lacked were quality receivers. We had a hall of fame TE in Ozzie Newsome and a very young Brian Brennan. This year's WRs are much better, the TE group is pretty good, so are the RBs (need to remember how to run-block though), the coach isn't as good but the offensive coordinator Haley is better than Joe Pendry was, but I'm not yet sure how this defense is. There's some very talented people there, to be sure. But they're so young and so new to this team that I have no idea what we've got yet on defense. There is a slight variation in schedule based on prior year performance. 16 games you play your division teams twice for 6 games. You then play 4 games against an NFC Division and then 4 games against another AFC division, both or which rotate annually. That leaves the final 2 games against AFC foes which is determined by the prior year schedule. Since the AFC North plays the AFC West this year, the Browns, who finished last in the North will then match up against the 4th place AFC East Team and 4th Place AFC South team (I believe it would be the Jets and Colts) whereas the Steelers who won the division will play the first place teams from those divisions (Patriots and Jacksonville)
