I'm not sold on the line being so bad. I mean, our RB's ran for 140 yards.

Right now they're better at run blocking that pass blocking. Tretter is getting run over on pass plays. Pressure up the middle is a QB's worst enemy. I think Austin Corbett becomes the Browns new center after this season.

BTW Tyrod Taylor holds on to the ball too long. He makes our OL look worse than mediocre.

Tyrod was never a strong passer. Baker will be interesting.

The question I have is how many games to the Browns need to win for Hue to come back another year?

I'm convinced that the second half last night saved his job. for now

To put a finer point on this - the problem isn't necessarily that Tyrod holds onto it too long, it's that when he has the ball he's unable to find space in the pocket. QB's that have longer post-snap reads (Big Ben) have to have impeccable pocket presence. Tyrod either backs up or scrambles.

Me too. Not sure if that's a good thing in the long run.

Baker: Hey Hue, let me help save your job.

Hue: Well, I'm going to have to look at the tape first.

Exactly what tape does he have to look at? He nailed it except for receivers dropping passes and saved Hue Jackson's job lol

I think they will get better every week especially with a solid quarterback behind them.

I'm sure "looking at tape" means that, just like any organization, there will be a process and discussion to changing the position.  You don't just announce it at the end of the game, "cuz man can Baker Mayfield throw the ball."  Also, that would be kind of a d-ck thing to do to Tyrod.

Yes, I've reconsidered my reaction to Hue saying he needs to look at the tape. Although I would have preferred that he say that he "needs to take everything under consideration before making a very important decision for this franchise. " Because if you look at the tape, it's pretty obvious who is the more talented quarterback.

The question is, can Baker Mayfield handle everything that goes into being the single most important player on a professional football team? After seeing how Tyrod prepares, learning the offense, and giving the roster (especially the OL) and coaching staff a chance to settle, plus having 10 days to prepare for the next opponent, now is the time to make the change. Baker is at least as good as Tyrod is right now and he's only going to get better.

I watched him with a hell of a lot of poise out there.  Those close in camera shots you never saw panic--he looked like he had a pretty good idea of what he was seeing on the other side of the line of scrimmage.  That's something we haven't seen in Cleveland much in the last 20 years.

I really think he might be the best quarterback the Browns had since my lifetime. That includes Kosar and Sipe. Like I said before I'm Predicting he will be in the Hall of Fame this early in the game.

^ bold statement.  I hope you're right.

Bernie is the best I've ever seen play.  He had swagger, guts, heart and great accuracy.  Please watch.

^ I remember it well.

The parallels to Bernie are evident. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves only time will tell. You all may have been drinking too much of that free bud light.

Bernie had one of the prettiest thrown balls in flight I've seen. I'm sure Ed Sabol would agree.

^ bold statement.  I hope you're right.

Time will tell but it's a bold statement I have a feeling will come true and willing to make. Hopefully UrbanOhio is still around so it will be archived if I'm right and can say told you so. Hopefully it takes longer than a year or two to come to a conclusion.

I hope you get to tell me you told me so.  I would be very happy if Mayfield is successful.  He looked good but I want to see him start a few more times before I'm sold.  I guess I'm cautiously optimistic.

That video looks so old it makes me feel old. Wow

I was at that game with my sister and brother. We were a little drunk and a lot angry by the time Freeman McNeil scored the touchdown with four minutes remaining in regulation that put the Jets up by 10. So we and thousands of others left early. With Red Right 88 still fresh in our memories, we doubted the Browns would ever win a playoff game in our lives.

By the time we got on the Rapid to go back to my brother's house in Fairview Park, the Browns already scored a meaningless TD. The Jets recovered the onside kick. We listened to the game on radios and my brother's portable TV. But the defense held and called TOs. Plus the Jets clock management was awful. So by the time Kosar fired the pass to Slaughter inside the 5 yard line (we first thought it was a TD), the crowded train erupted in cheers. BTW they are the same Red Line trains we're still riding today! We got back to my brother's house and watched the two overtimes and the winning kick, then had a loud, cheering celebration that evening at The Woods in Rocky River. I've never seen the city so excited except for when the Indians went to the World Series in 1995 for the first time in 41 years and the Cavs championship.

I was at that game as well.....

Remember Gastineau was interviewed and said what there to do in Cleveland.  Best game I ever saw the Browns win!  That team never gave up,

Someone had asked for some pictures.  It was truly an awesome night at the stadium (cant believe i just said that).  It was also the night i became a fan again.  I havent been to a game since 2011.  It was never going to be worth my time with two little kids and other things i like to do with my free time.  I didnt change allegiances, but i just couldnt care much.  I went to the game Thursday to get out with some guys, have a couple brews and let loose on a nice night.  I ended up with a giant man crush on Baker Mayfield and a renwed interest in this team.  The stadium outside the game after was bonkers.  It was like a completely different city.  You could cut the energy in the air with a knife.  Really good stuff.  The ratings on NFL Network were the highest they have been in 3 years.  People across the country were interested "Can this polarizing guy with a funny name lead this awful team out of the sespool".  Thats a compelling story line.  If the Browns can muster some wins, look for them to be flexed into national audience spots later this year.

Edit- I cant attach a jpeg for whatever reason...so no pictures i guess

More importantly, you could tell the team was re-energized when Baker started playing well

Cleveland is opening as 2.5 point dogs to Oakland. A little surprising considering Oakland is 0-3.

Still think this is a winnable game for Hue and Co.

I went on 538 and their ESPN influence feels like it's being used on their algorithms. (Being sarcastic, maybe.)

Cleveland, despite tying the Steelers and beating the Jets, is by far the worst NFL team using their metrics. Has the Browns as 6 point dogs to Oakland.

The Raiders have a 71% chance of winning on Sunday according to Nate. Of course the Jets had a 62% chance to win last week. So there's that.

FiveThirtyEight heavily uses data from previous seasons, especially towards the beginning of the season.  If we keep winning, our rating on that site should rapidly rise.

Browns QB Baker Mayfield named NFL Rookie of the Week

He’s the second Browns player to win the award this season, joining fellow first-round pick Denzel Ward, who took it home after intercepting two passes Week 1 against the Steelers.

You score 42 points in the NFL, you should win. This one was on the defense first, the refs second and our two turnovers that led to easy TDs third.

Right. And a dishonorable mention for the number of dropped passes. The inconsistencies across the board are really perplexing.

The silver (and black) lining of yesterday was that the game was exciting.

The Browns are 3 missed FG's away from being 4-0. They are the only team in the division that should have won all 4 of their games yet let them slip away.

It was so exciting I had to turn the game off because my family was getting upset at my language. And they didn't deserve to hear it.

Also, I know Callaway had a bad game... but we've gotta take it easy on the kid.

Being a rookie thrust into the starting Z position is not easy, games like this will happen... the future is still bright for him if he keeps it all together.

It's one thing when players make mistakes, but when the refs hose your team I think you need to curse at something.

Also a silver lining...Nick Chubb proved that he is REALLY FAST.

I'd say that knee has heeled.

Between Mayfield, Ward and Chubb this may have been the best draft since the Belichick-era, before the big move.

I know it's still early but Dorsey looks to be the real deal at GM.

Don't forget LB Genard Avery.

Avery has been the best rookie so far - and yes I'm including Denzel Ward's stellar performance.

And Callaway, too, despite his rawness.

Catching, tackling, and special teams were all atrocious yesterday, but this team still has huge potential.

BTW, what team other than the Browns could score the most points they've scored in a game in over a decade and still lose?

The same one that could get six turnovers in a game and not win.

I could see trading him because we have a wealth of RB's and a lot of other needs, but a 5th rounder seems like giving him away.
