The good thing is that it is an attractive job for the right coach.  Dorsey did not leave the cubbard bare!  They do have a QB in my opinion, lot's of draft picks and an unexpected higher first round pick.  With the right coach, this team could win 10 games next season.

The split between Dorsey and the Browns suggests that Hazlam will be dangling the carrot of more autonomy to a new incoming coach.  It can’t be the promise of beautiful  weather or a pedigree of football greatness that will attract a new head coach to CLE. So what then? Either new opportunity or the allure of more control. But the Browns don’t have time for another rookie coach to “learn the job” and develop into it over several seasons.  They do have talent in many key positions which needs good coaching, discipline and a positive professional culture.  For those reasons,  I agree  the Browns must get a proven  NFL coach  with winning experience (or a perennial champion college head coach, like an Urban Meyer) .  The NFL is a copycat league and the recent  trendy head coaching picks have been young former offensive coordinators.  . But the Browns need “sure-fire” leadership and know-how - not another rookie head coach who needs time for growing pains. . But who is left “out there” that fills the description and will commit to Cleveland?  Does a championship-less Jason  Garrett qualify? He had an 83-66 record with the Cowboys. And It’s easy to imagine Jerry Jones recommending him to his good friend Jimmy.  Whoever it is, a once proud franchise and exceptional fan base deserve the real deal this time around.

The "Urban to Cleveland" rumors are out in full force lol

Very Stable Genius

I like Urban, but I think the Browns need to go with someone who has NFL head coaching experience.

I'd like to hear some perspective on what current NFL players thought about playing for Urban. He reminds me of lot of Belichik, ie a cerebral, borderline sociopath.

It's clear to me the Browns are in desperate need of players - and staff - with strong integrity and commitment. No more clownshow.

I believe Urban is retired from coaching for health reasons. I can maybe see him being GM if he is interested in putting the pieces together of a coaching staff and drafting the players he likes.  That doesn’t seem like a huge leap to me especially since he is so familiar with all the players being drafted.

Urban pretty much coached supreme elite talent at his time at OSU.  All of the best of the best at that rank.  He managed to get them to perform for him.  I am not a fan of the guy as a person, i think he is all about him (the anti Tressel, who i love)...and i think he mismanaged that assistant coach situation and has dirt on his hands from that. I alos believe he uses the health issue to bounce from his job and the scrutiny when his image is at question.   However, when it comes to the NFL, there is no points for having a good person as coach.  Its a bottom line business and the browns bottomed out a long time ago, so even hiring a guy like Urb can only make the franchise better.  I hope they are considering it.  If they hire Daboll, Roman or Saleh, part of me will die inside.

LOL!!

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but as a browns fan why should I be optimistic at all. Depodesta has been begging for his guy now for 5 years and finally got him. This smells like a depodesta whiff and both of them being shown the door in 2 years

browns get 10th pick. so jedrick wills, alabama or tristan wirfs, iowa? i watched highlights, does it even matter which? not sure. fwiw, giants are projected to take wills ahead of browns per usa today mock.

It was so nice not caring about the draft for at least that one year.

Hoping the browns still have one of those lineman avail when it gets to pick 10

Andrew Berry is a winner. We’re in good hands.

It sure was interesting hearing Boomer Esiason tear into John Dorsey this week, essentially calling him stupid. The thought was Boomer was relaying the opinions of Andy Reid. The overall high level of soap opera-ish backstabbing and drama seems unique to the NFL.

Anyone else still not quite over what the heck happened this season? The optimism was fun and exciting while it lasted.

From your post to God's ears.   Hopefully we can quote this in a good way a year from now! ?

I don't care anymore. Someone wake me up sometime in the future if/when they ever start winning.

Browns DE Myles Garrett reinstated by NFL

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been reinstated by the NFL, bringing an end to his indefinite suspension.

Three months after being suspended indefinitely, Myles Garrett has been reinstated into the NFL.

On Wednesday, league commissioner Roger Goodell made the decision to reinstate Garrett, following his meeting with the Cleveland Browns defensive end in New York earlier this week.

browns fa news.

hooper is a fantastic pick up at te.

keenum at qb is an ok backup.

conklin at ot is questionable, coming off acl.

That is a lot of improvement I’m seeing. They still need a LT and a wide receiver in the draft which should be pretty easy since there are 15-20 top WRs available.
Their D should be instantly better by getting Garrett back. I haven’t followed what else is happening on defense except they keep cutting linebackers. So at least a top 10 offense and perhaps a middling defense.
The coaching will be better obviously.  Things are pointing up unless they completely screw up the draft.

The "coaching" staff last year....ouch. Was just wondering earlier today what a Bruce Arians-led Browns team would've done last season.

I'm a big fan of historical fiction!

And don't forget the Chubb-Hunt backfield,....the best in the league.

Most recent story is that OBJ has already bought into the new regime. But who really knows.

Browns Interest in Trading Odell Beckham Revealed by Insider

https://heavy.com/sports/2020/03/browns-not-interested-trade-odell-beckham/

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that the Browns have no interest in dealing Beckham, who had a tumultuous first season in Cleveland but has built a strong relationship with the new Browns regime, which includes general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski.

“On Browns and Odell Beckham Jr.: He’s not going to be a fire sale trade,” Robison reported. ‘I’ve been told things have been very positive for both him and the team since the regime change went down. Cleveland is not looking to move on from what it sees as a sizable (healthy) asset moving forward.”

They let Schobert and Kirksey walk. So their linebacking corps is comprised of Takitaki and Wilson. And they just waived their opening day starter at safety. The Browns don't have a defense right now.

Well with the salary cap much higher they should be able to find more LBs. But yes, slapping a new defense together is not an easy task. Hopefully they don’t switch back to a 3-4 system.

I SWEAR TO GOD IF THE BROWNS HAVE GARRETT, VERNON, AND CLAYBORN READY TO CLAP UP BIG BEN AND WE CAN'T PLAY FOOTBALL BECAUSE OF THIS VIRUS I'M PULLING A TED KACZYNSKI (sans explosives) AND MOVING TO A CABIN IN MONTANA WHERE FOOTBALL CAN'T HURT ME ANYMORE

Just because the Browns signed Clayborn, doesn't mean they'll get to have him on the field consistently. He's obviously a talented player, but he's been injured a lot and this is his 10th season. So I don't expect to see him play much. Still, it's at least a good value/depth signing.

The Browns let go of Kirksey and pick up Clayborn, so still some Iowa flavor.

Clayborn is a solid player who is probably entering the twilight of his career but you get a really experienced edge player who sets the edge more so than is a pass rusher these days, but a good pick up!

Adrian provided probably one of my greatest Hawkeye memories of all time (well, a couple actually):

1.) His blocked punt and pick up return for a touchdown to upset Penn State at Penn State in 2009 (Iowa ended up going 9-0 that season before falling to NW and OSU but rebounded to beat GA Tech in the Orange Bowl)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU9FGdYAO8Q

2.) Adrian also completely DOMINATED the Orange Bowl against GA Tech that year, crushing their triple option and won Defensive MVP.

The next year he came back for his senior year and he was double and triple teamed the whole time but still managed to be an All-American. He is a Hawkeye Legend.

If he contributes 20-30 snaps a game, that's excellent for us and the sustainability of Vernon and Myles

I wonder how long this all will last....I am really missing following sports in general-much more than I thought I would. Will there even be a football season this year?  What do people think?

I wonder what the long term affect of this will be on attendance at sporting events?  Will people be a little skittish about getting into a big crowd?

I can tell you from talking to operations people in both NFL and MLB front offices, they have no idea yet.  They are all waiting on government direction on this.   I imagine we'll see a lot of hand sanitizer stations, and maybe people in masks.

Looks like the Browns could be going traditional with their new unis. They're using the old school Cleveland greats in their promos so far. Like this guy!!

After the Miles Garrett incident, this might also be a good time to ditch the helmet as their marketing logo.

TBH I'm going to miss the "Cleveland" on the jerseys.  I feel like for decades our teams lacked that, then the Indians of the 90's, Lebron Cavs, etc started all putting it on the jersey again.

The old unis were hideous. They were the ugliest in the NFL. I like the traditional look.

I hoped they would just tweak the new uniforms, not go back to the old ones. These look old fashion. Glad the geriatrics love them.
