Two Browns players robbed at gunpoint, per police report

BEREA, Ohio -- Two Cleveland Browns players were robbed at gunpoint by six masked men, according to a police report

These guys all need to be more cautious.  They were probably sitting in the club all night with $50K of jewelry showing off.   The perps just had to sit outside and wait.

i’m not blaming the vics, but at the same time you have to use common sense.

My take exactly, with the nothing good happens after 1am codicil.

I'd also have to know the club, but for eff's sake if you're not going to hire your own security have the club get you to your car.  They will, downtown clubs crave celebrity regulars.

TBH, I wouldn't have minded some or all of the thieves getting hurt...

Yep, and they posted that they are going to hire parking lot security.    Horses and barn doors come to mind.

Reminds me CC Sabathia's rookie robbery.

I just usually take a stark position of not blaming the victim of a crime for the crime.

Then I go back and think about the things that never crossed my mind in my 20s when I was out and about.

^ of course in the real world both of you are right. the victims did not commit the crime. at the same time, common sense is warranted. of which i had very little at their age (and the age of the robbers most likely)!

Surprise offseason standouts for 32 NFL teams: Players to watch

NFL Nation reporters

Jun 27, 2023, 06:25 AM ET

Cleveland Browns

WR Marquise Goodwin

The Browns made a couple of noteworthy moves to upgrade their receiving corps this offseason, trading for Elijah Moore and drafting Cedric Tillman in the third round. Yet another under-the-radar addition, the 32-year-old Goodwin, dominated Cleveland's minicamp, flashing the downfield wheels that could make him an intriguing weapon for quarterback Deshaun Watson.

When asked about Goodwin's speed, Watson said, "It opens up other guys underneath ... the run game and also the intermediate and short game." Goodwin won't be a primary option, but he could be an impactful one. -- Jake Trotter

Predicting The 8 NFL Stadiums That Will Be Demolished Next

Alex Hoegler - Sunday

Cleveland Browns Stadium (Cleveland Browns)

Previously known as “FirstEnergy Stadium”, this venue opened in 1999 — coinciding with the Cleveland Browns’ reactivation.

So again, this venue isn’t all that old in terms of age. But it’s certainly outdated compared to all the younger stadiums, and it only feels like a matter of time until city officials give in and flash a thumbs up for a new field.

In 2023, it was reported that the Browns were planning to undergo $1 billion in stadium renovations. Even if that happens, it doesn’t mean Cleveland Browns Stadium is here to stay forever.

The stadium has endured its fair share of issues, from cracked concrete to plumbing issues to a damaged roof. The renovations may temporarily bring the stadium more up-to-date, but 10 to 15 years from now? Yep, a new stadium with more modern features will be long overdue. And it’s not like the Haslam family can’t afford it.

We’re not saying the Browns will have a new venue in five years. We’re just saying that it’ll be one of the next eight stadiums to get demolished and replaced.

I share the concern about spending $1B on renovations only to be told 10-15 years later that a new stadium is needed.

I'm one of the few people that actually love the stadium location - but being that close to the lake HAS to impact the survival period for the structure, right?

Well, Municipal Stadium lasted quite a while at that location.

they kind of punked out with the stripe on the white throwback helmets — why not just go all out old school white?

spacer.png

^ Not only that, but the stripe has gotten stupidly wide. They won't need a logo because at this rate the stripe will eventually cover the entire helmet.

p.s. Interesting to see a pic of the old Cleveland team (Rams) vs. the new Cleveland team.

I assume they are scrapping the all-brown alternate unis they have been wearing the last few years.  Those unis were not a good look.

The untold stories of Hall of Fame tackle Joe Thomas

Jake Trotter, ESPN Staff WriterJul 28, 2023, 07:00 AM ET

JOE THOMAS NEVER won a Super Bowl. He never appeared in a playoff game, either.

But he also never took a play off. And he never came off the field -- no matter what -- until a torn triceps tendon prompted retirement.

Over 11 seasons at left tackle for the Cleveland Browns -- from his rookie debut to his final game in 2017 -- Thomas played 10,363 consecutive snaps, believed to be an NFL record.

Cleveland Browns

No. 4 WR

The Browns have a clear-cut starting receiving trio in Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Elijah Moore. But after them, the competition for playing time is wide open, especially with veteran Marquise Goodwin having a blood clot issue. As the Browns move to a more wide-open scheme around QB Deshaun Watson, depth WR play will be paramount. Rookie Cedric Tillman, Jakeem Grant Sr. (coming back from an Achilles injury), David Bell, Anthony Schwartz and Jaelon Darden are among those vying for spots in the rotation. -- Jake Trotter

espn takeaways from the washington generals, err commanders, game — plus the browns are training with the eagles ahead of the next game thats interesting -

Browns: In his preseason debut, quarterback Deshaun Watson was crisp during his one series. Out of a one-hour weather delay, Watson completed all three of his passes for 12 yards, and more impressively, rushed for 20 yards on three carries. Cleveland wound up getting stuffed at the goal line on fourth down to end the drive. But it was an encouraging appearance from Cleveland's franchise quarterback, especially coming off the shaky six games he started for the Browns last season. Watson likely won't play in Cleveland's preseason game in Philadelphia next week following the joint practices with the Eagles. But coach Kevin Stefanski has indicated that Watson will get another tune-up in the preseason finale in Kansas City leading into the start of the regular season. -- Jake Trotter

cade york man, i dk.

i like him, he's no lou the toe, but he's only 22.

he has to be consistent in the game and make those clutch kicks.

that was painful with the eagles -- and that kind of thing would be a horrible way to end in a tie or lose a real game.

i know, i know, like pimping, kicking ain't easy. 😂

Specialists are all about finding a reset button. Some can and others can't. I hope Cade can, because he's got the talent to be a great one.

Here's why the #Browns must prioritize keeping Austin Watkins Jr. over Anthony Schwartz at the wide receiver position:

Snaps: Schwartz 97 | Watkins 91
Targets: Schwartz 12 | Watkins 24
Receptions: Schwartz 5 | Watkins 15
REC%: Schwartz 41.7 | Watkins 62.5
Yards: Schwartz 40 | Watkins 245
Yards/Route Run: Schwartz 0.45 | Watkins 2.88
ADOT: Schwartz 8.7 | Watkins 15.7
Drop Rate: Schwartz 28.6 | Watkins 6.3
QB Rating: Schwartz 50.7 | Watkins 124.5

The Drop Rate takes into account the catchable targets a player receives, factoring in throwaways and passes that couldn't be caught. Schwartz's 28.6% is the third highest in the NFL preseason so far. Watkins' 6.3 is the second lowest rate of any receiver with 20+ targets.

The Bengals pulled Burrow with 5:15 left, and he spent the remainder of the game watching with his arms folded on the bench.

He has never played well against the Browns, he is 1-5 against them.  I suspect it's related to Denzel's coast to coast pick six on him.  Either he thinks his college teammate knows something about his game, or he really does.   It might be Myles as well.

Denzel didn't play in the Halloween game last year and the Browns still blasted the Bengals 32-13.

24-3 is a nice blowout and I loved the defense and running game. If Deshaun can stop throwing at the feet of wide-open receivers, this team will be tough for anyone to beat. On to Pittsburgh.

Haslam is gonna maybe need a roof on that stadium asap for Watson lol. I've never seen him play well in any sort of weather.

Impressive statement game for the D.

trotty’s espn take —

Browns

Is the Browns' defense for real? It sure looks that way. The Browns rattled Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and completely shut down the Cincinnati offense. Pass-rushers Myles Garrett and Za'Darius Smith were in Burrow's face on almost every dropback. Cleveland's secondary was even more impressive, as cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson Jr. locked up Cincinnati's talented receiving corps. The rainy conditions helped. But the Browns' defense sent a message that, after a rocky 2022 performance, it could be among the most improved units in the entire NFL.

Stock up after the win: Jim Schwartz. Cleveland's new defensive coordinator came up with a masterful game plan in his debut, blitzing Burrow on 53% of his dropbacks in the first half, the highest rate of his career, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Stock down after the win: Cleveland's passing attack. Quarterback Deshaun Watsonmade several plays with his feet but tallied only 154 yards through the air, so the passing game will have to be sharper going forward for the Browns to become a true contender in the AFC. -- Jake Trotter

Next game: at Steelers (Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET)

probably unsung, but well noticed —> hopkins fg’s were strong and right down the middle. i think the browns have found their kicker. the punting was also awesome.

aaand i noticed they kept running left at the start and getting nowhere, i was getting mad, but then in the 2nd qtr they figured it out. so way to go o line.

all in all hot dam they really did fix a lot of holes this team had last season.

I get why they wouldn't place the sportsbook in the stadium given the current development on the lakefront, but this seems like a signal that the Haslams are either not committed to the current development plan, the current stadium location, or both.

The Cleveland Browns are getting into the sportsbook business, but not in the location you’d expect.

The Browns announced they have partnered with Cleveland restaurateur Bobby George and his Ethos Hospitality Group on a “reimagined sports bar concept” at the downtown Harry Buffalo location on East 4th Street. The Bally Bet sportsbook lounge will allow fans to place bets in person and watch games together.

The Browns have also partnered with Bally’s Interactive on a Bally Bet Sportsbook app, which is available now. The Browns will offer several promotions through the app, including the chance to win free tickets, autographed merchandise, VIP experiences and exclusive content, as well as fan activations in and around the stadium.
