August 14, 200816 yr The secondary scares me to death. They are going to get eaten ALIVE if they face any QBs w/a lick of talent (Roethlisberger shouldn't be a problem) like Carson Palmer. The Browns have not done one thing to replace the talent they lost and this is going to kill them. I didn't know about the lack of O-linemen, I thought they were good there? Dear God, that has been this teams Achilles since the 80s! Will they ever learn? Their O-line is fine in depth, by the opening game they'll be one of the deepest in the league. The corners worry me, not the safeties. However, I think Savage will go out and get another veteran.
August 14, 200816 yr The two starting corners are very solid and improving. After that, we've got nothing. The o-line is great. I don't know what Marado is complaining about.
August 14, 200816 yr I'm hoping Ty Law lowers his asking price and the Browns sign him...he's a perfect fit for our team, but just wants too much $$$. Savage should ask McGinest/Crennel and some of his other former teammates to talk to him and work somethnig out!
August 14, 200816 yr There is a chance too that someone worthwhile will become available as teams cut down toward opening day, and Savage is a good talent evaluator..i'd look to the deeper corner teams in the league (Oakland/Philly/Dallas/San Diego)
August 14, 200816 yr The injuries are starting to scare me. I hope that we experience no more of them and that guys get to rest a little bit before the regular season. As an aside, thank goodness for the MBNA Browns Extra Points! I got sets of tickets for the Giants and Ravens games for free. If you have one of those cards, it's a good time to redeem.
August 14, 200816 yr Is there something wrong with the turf at the Browns' practice fields? What's up with all the knee and hamstring injuries?? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

August 14, 200816 yr ^They were great last year. In the offseason, they picked up another guy who will might beat out one of last year's starters. They also get back a previous starter who had been lost to an injury. This is the deepest the line has been in decades.
August 14, 200816 yr Good deal, could they suck just enough to let Anderson go down hard? IMO the worst good-team QB in the league.
August 14, 200816 yr I'll never get the derek anderson haters... guy is 25 years old (a whopping 7 months older than quinn) has 18 NFL starts and yet people talk about him as if he's an 8th year pro finished product. Isn't it entirely possible that he might actually improve? Not that I'd be all that disapointed with a repeat of a 29 touchdown, 4,000 yards passing pro bowl season. I don't know if he's the answer but it still just amazes me the people that think he stinks. If quinn had the season anderson had last year, people would be looking to build a statue of the guy already.
August 14, 200816 yr You got it, McCleveland. I think most people don't realize how little experience Anderson has. He didn't come here as a grizzled veteran. He wasn't much more than a rookie. I don't know if Anderson is The Answer anymore than any of us can say if Quinn is The Answer either. Just goes to show that the back-up quarterback is usually the most popular guy on the team. August 14, 200816 yr I definitely give credit to Anderson. Let's just hope that he can finish the season stronger than he did last year. That second Cinci game was not pretty!
August 15, 200816 yr He just fails to inspire me. Maybe he'll turn out great, I can't say. But I've seen too many passes into the turf in scoring opportunities to embrace him.
August 15, 200816 yr He just fails to inspire me. Maybe he'll turn out great, I can't say. But I've seen too many passes into the turf in scoring opportunities to embrace him. I used to think that at times. But c'mon, it was his first year as a starter. QBs take time to develop.
August 15, 200816 yr He just fails to inspire me. Maybe he'll turn out great, I can't say. But I've seen too many passes into the turf in scoring opportunities to embrace him. again... stuff like this really does shock me. Do people expect him to be a hall of famer already? He was a borderline rookie last year.
August 15, 200816 yr I hate to admit it but based off of the end of last season I was down on Anderson, but he came into camp looking much more improved than Quinn. Every QB has their weaknesses and strengths. We finally have an offensive coordinator who knows how to tailor the offense to the QB and the rest of the teams strengths. So I am happy with Anderson and if the work in the off season in any indication of his maturity level he will be fine, probably not carrying the team on his shoulders but definitely not dragging this talented team down.
August 15, 200816 yr ^if our offensive coordinator had not have been so pass happy in that road loss to Cincinnati last year, maybe that would change some opinions of Anderson. With that wind, it was not the best idea to pass so much.
August 19, 200816 yr Wow.. welcome to the official Kstay2 Urbanohio Browns word of the season "vomitous."
August 19, 200816 yr hope DA is ok...i wouldn't play him for the rest of preseason just as a precaution. Sames goes for Cribbs! silver lining: if you take away the long return, the fumble return for a TD, blocked punt, and the careless penalties resulting in sh*tty field position, the defense didn't totally lose their collective jock. although manning made our corners look very vulnerable...
August 19, 200816 yr The brown pants ensemble was hideous... almost as hideous as the Browns' performance last night... it was very distracting... still better than that orange jersey alternate though btw, the Browns should bring back the striped socks permanently
August 19, 200816 yr Have they changed the helmet color to the old orange? It seems that way, but may be my old eyes or TV!
August 19, 200816 yr Let me rant a minute. 1. Apparently our offense is great for the first series only. 2. Wow, did our O-line get handled 3. Did the entire 1st team drink Gatorades new flavor, Stupidity. What was with the penalties? Even Andra Davis taking a swing? WTF? 4. I banish the Brown pants forever... Good things... 1.Phil's long fieldgoal. 2. Quinn looked good 3. Steptoe(SP?) look really good too. 4. It was only preseason, and the Giants were the Superbowl champs.Does anybody if T Coughlin runs a more physical camp hitting wise than RAC? They Browns just looked like they were shocked to get hit that hard.

And if you take away the two planes hitting the WTC, plus the third hitting the Pentagon, Sept. 11 was actually a victory for the U.S. The first team got its asses kicked last night in all aspects of the game. No ifs, ands or buts about it. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 19, 200816 yr Brady looked good, very relaxed. They came back in the second half to at least make the game somewhat respectable. DanB, I didn't notice any color change to the helmets.
August 19, 200816 yr the only way the brown pants might work is if they were coupled with brown jerseys for a mono-chromatic look... maybe
August 29, 200816 yr I went with 8-8. They just got lucky too many times last year and I don't think they have the advantage of being a surprisingly good team this year. Plus they have a tougher schedule. In addition I still think DA is overrated.
August 29, 200816 yr ^Agree completely. Also went with 8-8- (and no I didn't read this post until after I voted :) ).
August 30, 200816 yr A tougher schedule based on what? Last year? When is past performance an accurate indicator of future results? How many times have we seen teams with good records stink up the joint the next year? I've seen it a lot, so I don't expect anything nor do I predict anything. I know it's fun for some to try and predict but not for me. And for those who put their hard-earned money down on this sort of thing all I can say is "I don't get it." I just watch and enjoy the games, and take them as they come. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I just watch and enjoy the games, and take them as they come. I'd call it a tougher schedule because 6 of the games are against teams that made the playoffs last year, the bye week is earlier in the season than it was last year, and I can't imagine any of these teams coming too close to matching what Miami did last year. So yes I'd say I'm judging partly at least based on what they did last year. I don't get betting on games either. I get mad enough watching the Browns play with nothing on the line but pride.
September 1, 200816 yr Please tell me we're going to make a try for these guys, especially Deltha O'Neal and possibly Willie Anderson.... http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6997 When was the last time the Bengals cut three of their former Pro Bowlers on the same day? It happened Saturday as the Bengals cleared out right tackle Willie Anderson, running back Rudi Johnson, and cornerback Deltha O'Neal on Cutdown Day to get down to the 53-player limit. September 5, 200816 yr Week 2 vs. Browns a big one Friday, September 05, 2008 By Ron Cook, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette There is no such thing as a must-win football game until a team is in the playoffs or facing elimination from playoff contention. Certainly, the Steelers' game Sept. 14 at Cleveland isn't a must-win. What happens if they lose? Do they pack away the equipment and call it a year after just two games? More at http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08249/909579-87.stm
September 5, 200816 yr Why is this nitwit even writing about Week 2 when neither team has played their first game yet! Are Pittsburgh media so bored with the thought of their team playing Houston that they're already looking to Week 2?? September 5, 200816 yr hey, I really like the brown pants. Anyways, did anyone catch this? Steelers fans voted best in NFL. Browns fans are 3rd. I'll take that considering the past decade or so. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/columns/story?id=3530077

The fact the Browns consistently sell out every game and rank near the top in merchandise revenue every year, despite fielding less than stellar teams, speaks volumes.

The fact the Browns consistently sell out every game and rank near the top in merchandise revenue every year, despite fielding less than stellar teams, speaks volumes. The Browns have one of the largest and most loyal NFL fan bases. Cleveland and Ohio are still the core of football mania despite growth in the South and Southwest... There are Browns' Backers (almost like alumni clubs) in every major metro area in the country even though the team, esp the "new Browns" for the most part, have stunk... ... I'm nervous about this season: not that we don't have extreme talent, we do, but the expectations are SO high and our schedule, esp early, is a killer. We have so many national games (isn't this what we've always wanted???) against powerful teams. The injuries and our weak 2ndary could do us in... Sure hope not; pro football is so darn quirky so you never really know.
September 7, 200816 yr Browns get a 20-0 lead on the Dallas Cowboys!!! OK, it's 1979 (the first year I watched almost all of the Browns games that were on TV).
