September 7, 200816 yr My family is on the way to the game. My niece has her "lucky" ossie newsome jersey on! Go Browns!
September 7, 200816 yr How could Edwards drop that. That was a sure touchdown. My eight year old niece could have pulled that in! Anderson, Edwards and Lewis all look rusty and out of condition! :whip:
September 7, 200816 yr Pretty pathetic performance today. Especially on the defensive side... I say this as we pick one off in the end zone, but of course he made the mistake of running it out and only got to the 13 yard line. We've got some work to do...
September 8, 200816 yr I can't bring myself to talk about the game. I'll just say this... as someone of Scottish heritage, what the sun did yesterday is bullshit. you can't be cloudy all morning and then decide to blaze starting at about 2 o'clock. By that time i was already at my tailgate and had no sunscreen. I look like a tomato... speaking of tomatoes i wish i would have had some to throw.
September 8, 200816 yr Lets face it, in MY opinion, now that Tom Brady is out for a bit, Dallas is the best team out there. Yes, the Browns looked like shit but there are a few things to remember. 1) Last years opening game and look how they turned out. 2) A lot of key players were out(like the receiving core, KR, OL, DB) or JUST returned into the lineup w/o much practice. Offense: D.A. wasn't bad, he had some drops which he cannot control Edwards has been out, but still looked like shit drops and mental mistakes in penalties. O loine not too bad, but needs to be healthy and needs to get timing down. D line not bad at all especially Rogers, took double teams all day which SHOULD have opened up opportunities for the linebackers...linebackers...MIA. DB's...ouch IMO the coverage scheme sucked (partly coaches fault) the cover 2 looked more like a cover 0, they aren't talented or fast enough to man up (even with a TE)...THIS will pose the biggest problem. Next week will be a BIG test for the D. I truly believe they can have a good season, but fine tuning and health issues need to be dealt with YESTERDAY!
September 8, 200816 yr i'm not jumping off a bridge... and i agree with your assesment of the offense... but the d, in particular the line, has to start getting some pressure or we're f'd.
September 8, 200816 yr Brady going down helps the Browns, 2 AFC North teams can now make the playoffs.
September 10, 200816 yr Cleveland Browns safety Sean Jones out with knee surgery by Mary Kay Cabot Wednesday September 10, 2008, 11:20 AM Browns safety Sean Jones will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will miss at least several weeks. Coach Romeo Crennel made the announcement today and said that Jones will not be placed on injured reserve and that the Browns plan to have him back this season. September 10, 200816 yr Adams and Sorensor starting against the Steelers? Yikes! If the D-line has a repeat performance Big Ben may throw for a billion yards.
September 10, 200816 yr Adams and Sorensor starting against the Steelers? Yikes! If the D-line has a repeat performance Big Ben may throw for a billion yards. The Line?? puh-leease! The defensive backfield looked like a pop warner team!
September 10, 200816 yr I didn't know we had a defensive secondary. But I did see some guys wearing brown standing around and yelling "olé!" "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 10, 200816 yr I didn't know we had a defensive secondary. But I did see some guys wearing brown standing around and yelling "olé!" ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh Now that was shady!

The defensive backfield looked like a pop warner team! Its a lot easier for a defensive back to cover a receiver for 5 seconds as opposed to 10. That's all i am saying. Pittsburgh's O-line should be weaker than Dallas' this year so maybe they will have more success. Although once you get to Big Ben you have the challenge of getting him on the ground. We struggled with that last year.
September 10, 200816 yr ^Doesn't matter how good your DB's are if you don't get any pressure on the QB. Good quarterbacks will find an open receiver for A LOT of yards every time if given more then 4 seconds.
September 11, 200816 yr Another Forbes' List: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Forbes: Cleveland Browns in NFL’s billion-dollar club September 11, 2008 - 2:37 PM Forbes magazine’s annual valuation of National Football League teams puts the Cleveland Browns in the company of 18 other pro teams whose worth hits or tops the $1 billion mark. The magazine’s “Business of Football” report ranks the Browns the No. 15 team in the NFL, with a value of $1 billion, just ahead of the Green Bay Backers and just behind the Carolina Panthers. The Cincinnati Bengals came in at No. 21 on the list, valued at $941 million, edging past the New Orleans Saints but just behind the Tennessee Titans. September 14, 200816 yr aiight kids, were about an hour away from kick off. Go Brownies! Question? How many endorsment deals does Brady Quinn have? I know most were concieved/produced in May/June but sheesh!
September 15, 200816 yr It sucks the Browns lost. I'm not a fan but I was rootin for them. I just really hate the steelers lol
September 15, 200816 yr At least the shots of the city looked nice! LOL They had a time-lapse of the wind-driven clouds shot from Edgewater Park, looking at the lake and skyline. Awesome. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 15, 200816 yr Coaching lost the game. That's just sad. But I agree that the city looked awesome!
September 15, 200816 yr Defense looked solid, Anderson worries me and Braylon needs to stop dropping so many balls. City looked amazing, made me truly miss living there.
September 15, 200816 yr I think Anderson did enough to keep his job, Crennel can't manage the clock, and Secondary played a bit better. On a dry field however, I think Steeler receivers have better footing, and Secondary fails again. I must say however, Lewis ran far better than I though given the stregnth of the Steeler front 3. Slightly reminiscent of last years OSU Michigan game.
September 15, 200816 yr The defensive line did hold up well against Parker and the run. I wouldn't like to see what the score would have been if the steelers could have thrown the ball. Hines Ward and Holmes would eaten our secondary alive. The weather was on our side and we still couldn't come close to pulling it off. And from the Stating the Obvious Dept. They really really need a win against Baltimore next week. Good to here that the city looked good because I was at the game and didn't get to see it on TV, actually if i had stayed home I wouldn't have been able to anyway because our house had no power for most of it.

On a dry field however, I think Steeler receivers have better footing, and Secondary fails again. I must say however, Lewis ran far better than I though given the stregnth of the Steeler front 3. Slightly reminiscent of last years OSU Michigan game. How has Anderson done enough to keep his job? He's thrown for a total of 280 yards in two games with 1 TD and 2 INT's. He clearly hasn't learned the touch pass yet and his decision making has been suspect at best. I'm not saying change QB's after two games.. but his job certainly isn't safe..
September 15, 200816 yr you know what? this was the first decent browns game this year i could watch all the way thru w/o feeling sick to my stomach. i mean at least they are not downing kickoffs anymore like i saw preseason. it was tight and actually interesting enough throughout. yeah the o pretty much sucks, but even so at least i still enjoyed watching the front lines of both the o and the d go to work every play, they are very good. the secondary is always cringeworthy, but still not as bad as i thought. to be fair i have to admit pitts screwups and an injured rothlesberger played a big part in keeping it close too. kstay2 you are so right about anderson, his days are numbered...or ought to be.
September 15, 200816 yr Coaching lost the game. That's just sad. But I agree that the city looked awesome! No joke. Crennel seems to have no idea how to manage the clock. Remember last year in the Pittsburgh game when he called timeout, then immediately challenged a call and lost, and was docked a second timeout? If I remember correctly, the Browns were driving for the win later in the game and the clock ran out.
September 16, 200816 yr Well it looks like lots of people got to see the great skyline shots of Cleveland during the game: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ratings091408,0,3105421.story Ratings: Cleveland (and Pittsburgh) Rock for NBC 'Sunday Night Football' gets an across-the-board win September 15, 2008 The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns didn't put up many points Sunday, but the broadcast of their game on NBC did score the night's best ratings. NBC averaged an 8.3 rating/13 share for the night, easily beating CBS' 6.5/11 (both networks had live sports on the night, so their numbers may change some). ABC came in third with a 4.1/7. FOX took fourth at 3.3/5, and The CW trailed with a 1.3/2. Among adults 18-49, NBC's 5.4 rating was far and away the night's best. CBS finished second in the demographic with a 3.0. ABC and FOX tied for third at 2.1, while The CW managed only a 0.8.
September 16, 200816 yr I thought it was cool that Sokolowski's University Inn was shown coming back from commercials on Sunday night. Madden was talking about their pierogis.
September 17, 200816 yr Some guy in the forums on Cleveland.com said his buddy called him and said he saw Randy Lerner walk into a restaurant in NYC an hour ago and sat down and had lunch with Cowher. As much as I would like to believe him, it is cleveland.com.
September 17, 200816 yr and you reported this here, why? (roll eyes to the cleveland.bomb post, not you or your post)
September 18, 200816 yr Bill Cowher isn't gonna coach anywhere until next season at the earliest. That is for sure. Cowher really does not have loyalty toward Pittsburgh if that's what people think may hold him back from coaching another team. If you remember, he was always put down by Pittsburgh as not being able to get to the big game etc etc.. From what I thought at his retirement, I thought it was for good. His family has always lived down in South Carolina, and I figured he was getting ready to pull a Jimmy Johnson and fish all day...Why Not.
September 18, 200816 yr I thought it was cool that Sokolowski's University Inn was shown coming back from commercials on Sunday night. Madden was talking about their pierogis. Except that they stumbled through the name and called it Soklowski's. I had just been there the day before, but it made me want to go right back! Those pierogies are amazing.
September 22, 200816 yr 0-3 ....expect the start Quinn chants to become even louder...if Romeo wants to save his job, he'll have to do something. Personally, I'd give DA one more start against Cincy, and if results aren't dramatically improved...grab a clipboard. And his lackluster play really dates back to the last 7-8 games of 07 too....so this shouldn't be viewed as some knee-jerk Monday morning QB decision...
September 22, 200816 yr My comments on the Browns-Ravens game.... And regarding that Browns bandwagon, I'm.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 22, 200816 yr Yeah, how 'bout them Browns? :( Are you guys sure that Anderson didn't get struck by lightning the day of that first preseason game against the NYJ? We've seen nothing like that first TD drive of the preseason. Something isn't right about how the team is training and practicing. It's plain to see in the tackling and injuries.
September 22, 200816 yr I'm mad they didn't put Quinn in at all.. Anderson is playing so poorly.. 5 INT's on the season vs. 2 TD's in 3 games ain't gonna cut it..
September 22, 200816 yr ^To be fair there have been a lot of dropped balls this year so far... at least one of which directly led to an interception. Edwards has been pretty terrible so far this season and really needs to step it up if the Browns want to win even 4 games. Stallworths return should help tremendously... I hope. I'm not giving up on Anderson yet. Quinn didn't look any better in the pre-season anyway. I don't want to see us change quarterbacks just because we think we need some type of change... but it did work out last year when we dumped Frye.
September 23, 200816 yr Have they changed the helmet color to the old orange? It seems that way, but may be my old eyes or TV! This is the orange difference I was talking about.
September 23, 200816 yr This is from the Columbus Dispatch, Jan 1987 or 1988. Either following the drive or the fumble, can't remember now!
September 25, 200816 yr It's funny to look at this thread and see all of the enthusiasm we had for the Browns, then watch it slowly go down the drain.
September 29, 200816 yr Anderson still looked like crap.. I'll give him until the 2nd quarter of the Giants game before he gets yanked. I'm not a Brady Quinn honk, but DA just isn't cutting it, and the Browns don't have time to let him "work through the problems."
