A "W" is a "W" period!

Three straight games without a turnover and the second win without Winslow.

Why does all the media write us off?  We are right in the middle of the pack in terms of an AFC wildcard..including better than jacksonville and SD right now. COlts arent much better.  If we take care of home the next two games, we should be feeling REAL good...cause that would mean a tie breaker against Denver too.

When were we "wrote off"??  the team has not performed up to expectations, granted I believe they gave too much credit to begin with.  I predicted an 8-8 season, I think the "experts" were wrong from the start.

See this thread:  http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16935.0.html

I heard Roger Brown and many of the Cleveland media people, who are not very credible sources, but they still have their opinions say numerous times over the last two weeks say "start Quinn, we are not giong anywhere this year anyway", and "this team is bad"...in all reality we are 3-1 in our last 4, and the loss coming to a possible super bowl contender for the NFC...this town can be very fickle.

Oh please!

When a team does not perform up to "expectations", the naysayers come out in force.

Cleveland is not immune to this, it happens in EVERY city.  Nor, is this something that is relegated to the NFL, it happens in MLB, NHL and NBA.

BTW, welcome to UrbanOhio!

Because the PD won't be happy until this city gets nuked by a meltdown at Davis Besse, is hit by 10 F5 tornadoes in a line, the splinters ignite in a horrific inferno, the ashes wash away into Lake Erie and are urinated on by any survivors.

how about shaun rogers play yesterday?  i can't believe the lions let this dude go for basically leigh bodden...browns were smart to give him a new contract and lock him up!

Freakin' Hilarious!!!!!  I think they're waiting for a Hurricane on Lake Erie though...

^Which then all die from some horrific disease from eating to many walleye.

I stopped over to make a post about the Browns needing to get DA a shrink but got sidetracked by KJP's hilarious analysis of the PD....That is why I love Urban Ohio...

It could be worse, you could be a Bengals fan like myself. At least the Browns have a win.

The Brownies have THREE.  WHOOOHOOO!  :-P

^That's three more then the Bengals

^That's three more then the Bengals

Lets keep it that way!

Pretty pathetic down the stretch this afternoon.

A little disheartening hearing the 'Brady' chants near the end of the game.  I don't place the blame on Anderson... he had an ok game.  I'm ready to see Romeo hand over the team to someone that can win a championship.  Honestly, does anyone think Romeo can bring an NFL championship to Cleveland?  Anyone?

ROMEO MUST GO

Braylon Edwards would have trouble catching a Nerf football..

It's time to at least give Quinn some series, see what the kid can do, it's all about building for next year at this point..

if their schedule were a bit more friendly, I'd say stick with Anderson, but honestly I don't see the Browns making a run at the playoffs anymore...they will struggle to finish .500 at this point...looking at their remaining schedule, they might be favored in 2 of these games

home vs Denver 4-4

at Buffalo 5-3

home vs Houston 3-5

home vs Indy 4-4

at Tenn 8-0

at Philly 5-3

home vs Cincy 1-8

at Pit 5-2

As i said earlier, the "expectation" was greater than the "ability" of the browns.

I said 8-8 and I think that is how they will finish.

BREAKING - WKYC

Browns: Brady Quinn to start Thursday night's game

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have announced that quarterback Brady Quinn will make his first regular season NFL start this Thursday night against Denver.  Head Coach, Romeo Crennel, had said earlier Monday in his press conference that he didn't see any lineup changes.

The decision one day after the Browns lost to the Ravens after blowing a 14 point lead with Derek Anderson as their quarterback.

The Browns have a record of 3-5.

Been looking for this all day...

and they beat the PD to it.

oh snap. now that is news. hey anything to stir it up a little.

i dont see how that will make a difference as honestly qb is among the least of this team's problems, but interesting.

Someone buy Braylon some GLUE!

All I have to say is that is heck of vote of confidence for Denver's defense switching the QB on 3 days of practice. Although if Denvers D is that bad against the run, I can see a "manage" the game plan for Brady, heavy on the run to get him up to speed and build some confidence. Maybe 20 passes at the most for the whole game.

Sometimes I feel like Braylon is the Cerrano (Thanks flee2thecleve) character from Major League who can pound out 500 ft homers (tumbling one handed catches) off a fastball but he can't hit the curveball (routine in his hands catches).

Minus the vodoo of course.

^Pedro Cerrano

^^I agree.  Denver's D is mong the league's worst, they struggle against both the run (26 of 32) and pass (27 of 32).

T-minus 28 hours until Brady Quinn's debut....

LMAO!  Hot Patootie / Bless My Soul

Perhaps killing a chicken might not be such a bad idea for Braylon after-all

or maybe a pair of these:

Baaahhhh!

Can we get Winslow a set of those gloves, too?

Game summary:

Start well, get nice lead, build up hope for victory, collapse, lose.  Lather, rinse, repeat.

The Browns lost fans tonight.

Quinn looked OK.  He didn't take any risks and hardly ever threw the ball over the top.  He's a tight ends best friend.  Honestly, I prefer Anderson.  At least he throws the ball down the field every now and then to Edwards who will make the catch one out of three times.

Another pathetic performance by the defense... absolutely no pressure all night.  Isn't Romeo a defensive minded coach?

ROMEO MUST GO!

It doesn't matter if Romeo is a defense minded coach if he doesn't have defensive minded players.

I want to rant but that takes too much energy...

Good for Quinn. I liked DA but once it was apparent that he wasn't making progress in leadership, evening out his game and maintaining his composure I didn't think that it was going to work out. I'll take an even quarter back that is good for 200 plus yds on almost any day.

Perhaps the Browns should switch to Hockey since they can only play for three periods?

Well, at least Chris Collinsworth said that the stadium was pretty awesome (it was his first time there) and commented that he was very impressed by all of the progress happening in Downtown Cleveland.

At least now we'll be able to see what we have in Quinn and make a determination on what direction to go at QB long-term.  My guess is they trade DA for picks and load up on D.  Clearly it is that side of the ball that needs help, especially in the LB core.  How cool would it be if the Browns picked up Laurinaitis?

So game winding down and you have 2 timeouts left.  1st and 10, you pick up 9 yards.  2nd and 1, incomplete pass.  3rd and 1, incomplete pass.  4th and 1, incomplete pass.  Game over.

Why it never dawned on anyone on the coaching staff to perhaps run a draw play to pick up a first down, keep the drive alive, and get a new set of downs is beyond me.  Denver is running a prevent defense, rushing only 3, I am quite certain you can pick up a first down, call timeout, and  continue on.

This is why the coaching staff needs to go.

agree 100%.  3rd down, they should have run.  Unfortunately, dumb moves are the norm.

Quinn looks to be the better overall QB.  We'll see how he plays in cold weather down the stretch.  D.A. was not a fan.

You understand that Brady had two days of practice to get ready for this game right?  I thought it was obvious that Brady had a lot better control of the offense and seemed very relaxed.  DA gets flustered and loses confidence too easily.  DA is a nice guy and his team likes him a  lot, but Brady is a natural leader and should play the rest of the season..

^I understand Brady's limited practice time, but I would still like to see him air it out a little more.  Utilize Edwards in what he's best at... running fades and posts down the field.

I've thought about it a little more and considering they are now basically out of playoff contention I think it's time to keep Quinn in for the rest of the year... none of this back and forth BS.

There is no reason to ever put Anderson in again.  He cannot move.  He cannot manage a drive under time pressure.  He cannot hit recievers in stride, while Quinn has already mastered it.  Anderson's five yard passes go for five yards, if they're completed at all.  Quinn's five yard passes go for 10-15 because recievers don't have to stop, jump, or turn around to find the ball.  I'd like to see more downfield throws too, and I think we will soon.

Brady's lack of downfield passing is also completely attributed to the coaching staff.  They installed a very conservative game plan which did not ask him to do a whole lot - and he executed that.  We'll see what happens as it expands.

But this team is in desperate need of a leader.  DA is not a leader.  He had big games last year against Cincy, Miami, and St Louis - the 3 worst teams in the league.  Otherwise, he played average or poorly, particularly when pressure was on him to perform.  Hopefully Brady can fill a leadership role.

Usually your head coach is supposed to be a leader, but Romeo leads nothing.

"Anderson is our QB"

(two hours later)

"We're making a change to Brady Quinn"

Awesome.  The whole Frye/Anderson thing last year, DA/Quinn this year, Winslow staph infection mis-management, the inability to manage the clock at the end of the half or game, the play calling, defensive schemes...its horrid.

The Broncos HAD NO HEALTHY RB IN THE SECOND HALF!  When your opponent has no running back on their roster, do you think they might have to resort to throwing the ball?  And you can't put together a defensive package to stop what you know is coming?

Complete and total disaster.

Complete and total disaster.

I couldn't agree more. What we witnessed last night was symptomatic of the entire year.  With an utter failure to devise a gameplan that produces positive yardage and the inability to effectivley coach on or off the field.

Crennel says Cleveland Browns will discuss signing CB DeAngelo Hall

by Mary Kay Cabot

Friday November 07, 2008, 1:46 PM

Browns coach Romeo Crennel said today that the team will at least discuss the possibility of signing cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who was released this week by the Oakland Raiders.

Hall, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, was released after he reportedly struggled in the Raiders' man-to-man scheme and was beaten a lot in the first half of the season.

Sounds just like what this team needs....because you can never have too many of your D secondary getting beaten man-to-man.

Hall went to the redskins.

Meanwhile, the Browns are discussing it.
