February 10, 201114 yr Cleveland Browns release six players, including Shaun Rogers, David Bowens, Eric Barton and Kenyon Coleman http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/02/cleveland_browns_terminate_six.html
February 10, 201114 yr Most of these guys are either aged(Bowens & Coleman), unproductive(St. Clair & Royal) or very overpriced based on salary(Rogers).
February 10, 201114 yr Good move. Rogers was good for a blocked FG/PAT or two per season, but I'm not sure that alone justified the cost. Still, when he was healthy and able/willing to practice, he was a monster. I don't fault them for going out and getting him a few years back.

February 16, 201114 yr I really hope we get rid of Delhomme. <b>Browns have no plans at present to cut Jake Delhomme</b> The Browns shed some dead weight salaries earlier this week, but their most overpaid player remains on the team. Browns G.M. Tom Heckert told Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer there are no plans “at present” (Grossi’s words) to cut quarterback Jake Delhomme. There’s no rush to cut most players pre-work stoppage and it’s hard to believe Delhomme will be back next year. Due $5.4 million, Delhomme is behind Colt McCoy on the team’s depth chart. Delhomme threw two touchdowns and seven interceptions last year and his yards-per-attempt was far lower than McCoy and Seneca Wallace... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/13/browns-have-no-plans-at-present-to-cut-jake-delhomme/
February 16, 201114 yr I dont want him mentoring Colt McCoy lol. "Remember Colt, only throw the ball to the receiver that is doubled covered. That way you have a better chance of throwing an incomplete pass, or even better, an interception."
February 23, 201114 yr Browns franchise K Phil Dawson The team placed its franchise tag on the longtime dependable kicker, the only player remaining from Cleveland's 1999 expansion squad. Dawson, who was expected to become a free agent, will make $3.25 million next season, and it's possible he could still sign a long-term contract with the Browns. He's been trying to get a new deal from the club for several years. But despite being underpaid among his peers -- he made $1 million last season -- Dawson has continued to perform at a high level. He has connected on 252 of 303 career attempts, an 83.2 percentage, ninth-best in NFL history. Last season, the 36-year-old made 23 of 28 field goals and all 28 extra points. Dawson also passed Hall of Famer Lou Groza for the most field goals in team history and joined Groza and Don Cockroft as the only Browns to surpass 1,000 points. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6148107&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines

March 28, 201114 yr I hope that AJ Green is available at #6 and that the Browns grab him. I know, I know, they have a ton of needs and might be better of trading down, but a playmaker like that...yeesh...

April 12, 201114 yr I hope that AJ Green is available at #6 and that the Browns grab him. I know, I know, they have a ton of needs and might be better of trading down, but a playmaker like that...yeesh... The last thing we need is another WR that averaged 15 yards per reception for his career and runs a 4.5 40. Seriously, we don't have enough players to man a defensive line, and people want a glamour position. No wonder we're the Browns..
April 12, 201114 yr I'm torn. I'd have a hard time taking Bowers or Fairley or Quinn at 6. They all have issues. Dareus, yeah, but he won't be there. So do we take an iffy DL over the best WR prospect in recent years? Tough call. I agree that the need on DL is greater, but only by a little, because our passing game isn't even competitive.
April 12, 201114 yr Either Peterson or Fairley should be there when we pick and I had them 1-2 pretty much since the bowls. I would be happy with either one. I like AJ Green but I personally think Julio Jones would be a better fit playing in the AFC North. I also think there are good WRs who will be available beyond Rd 1.
April 12, 201114 yr I am all about Peterson if he is available. Our secondary would unstoppable for the next ten years with him and Haden and Ward. I think he is pretty risk-free compared to some of the defensive lineman. I think Peterson will likely be gone by the time we pick though.
April 12, 201114 yr Question about the Browns stadium. I believe it cost about $500 million. Assuming there's no lockout, have statisticians figured out when the city will finally start seeing a profit on the stadium? Have we already? Does that kind of analysis even exist?
April 12, 201114 yr First priority for any football team: strengthen the offensive and defensive lines. Second priority: strengthen the talent at every other position. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 12, 201114 yr Somewhat agreed. I always say that you can have a great offensive line without having a great running back, but it is much, much harder to have a great running back without a great offensive line. I don't think it applies to the same extent on defense, because the defensive backfield can have as much to do with the line's success as the line has to do with the backfield's success. Switching to a 4-3, we desperately need more d-lineman. That is for sure. But I still would grab Peterson up in a heart beat because this year's draft is ridiculously deep in d-lineman and at least one first round talent is bound to drop to us in the 2nd..... and, also, there simply are many more 4-3 lineman in the league (i.e. one-gap players) than there are 3-4 lineman (i.e. two-gap players) and we should be able to fill some in during free agency.... if there ever is a free agency period.
April 12, 201114 yr That's the key, we can't build our entire D-line with rookies. Without free agency we're in trouble no matter what we draft. We should spend at least 3 draft picks on D-line, it's an obvious glaring need. But with that #6 pick we should go with the best available athlete. And that's probably Peterson, Green or Jones.
April 12, 201114 yr You don't consider Fairley, Bowers, Quinn, and Dareus to be athletes? Or is it just your opinion that Peterson, Green or Jones are better players. I agree that, at #6, you have to choose BPA (best player available).... but sometimes you can't distinguish between 2 or 3 players and that is where "need" and "fit" come into play. Fairley fits and he is a need. We need another DT to play alongside Rubin. Rubin is a 1 technique (outside shoulder of center) in a 4-3. Fairley is a 3 technique (outside shoulder of guard). Rubin is a space eater and run-stopper. Fairley is a havoc-wrecker and penetrator. They compliment each other perfectly. I'm also advocating for him because I hate all the post-season draft board movement. There is no way I thought Fairley would drop anywhere close to 6 when the season ended, but pre-draft BS seems to have done just that..... same reason Tampa was able to grab Warren Sapp a lot lower than he should have went.
April 12, 201114 yr I take points off Bowers for the knee, though it checked out OK today. He still could be a Courtney Brown though. Fairley had that one great game, but then again Cameron Heyward tore up his bowl game too. Fairley has some Gerard Warren potential. Historcally there's a lot more Gerard Warrens than Warren Sapps. Quinn didn't play at all last year, so there's points off. I would jump on Dareus if he's available but I doubt he will be. He's the only top-flight DL without some kind of drawback or question mark. So if it were up to me, I'd take Peterson, Green or Jones (or Dareus) before any of those guys. But you may be right about Fairley. I'd be happy with him if we got him.
April 12, 201114 yr Fairley dominated all season. All season. Without him, Auburn would have lost 3 or 4 games. He was supposedly a lock for the top 5 well before the bowl game.
April 13, 201114 yr Fairley dominated all season. All season. Without him, Auburn would have lost 3 or 4 games. He was supposedly a lock for the top 5 well before the bowl game. If Fairley dominated all season, then why did his defense get shredded every week? Auburn won because of Cam Newton, not because of Fairley.

If Fairley dominated all season, then why did his defense get shredded every week? Auburn won because of Cam Newton, not because of Fairley. "Shredded every week"? Hardly. The two highest ranked teams they played, they held to under 20 points. One of them, Oregon, had arguably one of the more explosive offenses in recent memory. Sure, they got caught up in a few shootouts, but a big reason for that is because their offense turned the field over so quick. My point was to insult Cam or his contributions. But Auburn likely loses at least a few of the Oregon, LSU, Bama, Miss. St. or Clemson games without Fairley's efforts..... all close games in which he came up big.

Auburn "held" Oregon to 450 yards of Offense against Oregon. Arkansas had almost 600 yards on Auburn, and that was with a backup QB. I'm not going to break it down, but Cameron Heyward and his Defense were much more impressive against Oregon & Arkansas than Fairley was, and Heyward may fall to the 2nd round. My biggest concern is that Fairley only delivered for one year, his money year. The second concern is that he played on a bad defense, one that gave up about 400 yards/game; there is something to be said for that. Next concern is his lack of control and dirty play, he had more penalty yardage than sack yardage. To me, he seems like a combo of Big Money & Shaun Rogers; playing hard this year so he could get paid, and playing one on one D, shooting gaps in a undisciplined D that allowed for way too many yards.
April 18, 201114 yr Peyton Hillis advances to 'Madden' final Peyton Hillis is one step away from becoming the first Cleveland Browns player to grace the cover of the popular "Madden" video game series. ESPN.com's SportsNation announced Monday that Hillis, a No. 10 seed, pulled another upset in the "Madden NFL 12" cover tournament. He garnered 61 percent of the vote to defeat Green Bay Packers quarterback and No. 1 seed Aaron Rodgers. Hillis will face Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick in the finals. http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/26641/peyton-hillis-advances-to-madden-final go vote! :) http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/feature/madden2012cover

Exactly. Fairley was one of the dirtiest players in the NCAA last year. Week after week we were provided with clips on Sportscenter of cheap shots and after the whistle hits from Mr. Fairley. Frankly, I don't like the way he approaches the game. He's one of a whole generation of kids that are growing up learning how to HIT, not tackle. The Browns have plenty of needs in this draft. I'd prefer it if they filled their receiver hole with their first pick and go get DL's later in the draft.
April 18, 201114 yr We need some dirty players on this team. Look at what that approach has done for Baltiwhore and Pittsbooger over the years. We need to go out there like a bunch of crazed dawgs.

April 19, 201114 yr Only if the ref sees it. We are talking interior line here, folks. It ain't an ice cream social down there
April 19, 201114 yr No Madden Curse! Vote for Vick! I heard the Cleveland Sports Curse and the Madden Curse cancel out when combined.
April 19, 201114 yr "Vote Peyton Hillis" official Facebook page...even EA Sports is posting on it! Looks like they want him to win...cough...cough: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vote-Peyton-Hillis-for-Madden-12-Cover/191801094192492
April 19, 201114 yr This Hillis/Madden thing goes to show how passionate Browns fans are, but also how popular the White Rhino is outside of Cleveland. I know he is all my out of town friends wanted to discuss this past season if Browns football came up.
April 22, 201114 yr I am really getting annoyed with the people who are so against Hillis being on the cover of Madden. Sure, he is not one of the truly established superstars in the league (yet), but this is a popularity contest. That is the way EA Sports wanted to do it. And Hillis is undoubtedly popular..... not just in Cleveland either. Any time I talked Browns this past season with any of my friends who live in other states, they all raved about Hillis. The fact that he is in the finals just goes to prove how popular he has become..... or how truly dedicated Browns fans are.
April 22, 201114 yr ^He beat Aaron Rodgers last round, who just won the superbowl and is the messiah king of the Packer nation, so that's saying something. If he doesn't beat Vick, I will have lost my remaining shred of faith in humanity.
April 26, 201114 yr This was posted on Cleveland.com. Still gives me chills: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gIs5tljbt4&feature=player_embedded#at=43
April 26, 201114 yr Yeah, that was OK... :) I think I have that game on a VHS tape. I still have beta tapes of full games going back to 1985 and highlights of Browns games back to 1983. April 27, 201114 yr Tomorrow's the Hillis Madden Cover announcement! Landing him on the cover would be really cool for this franchise... In other news, draft is Thursday, what's everyone thinking? I think the Brownies' selection hinges on what Cincinnati does. I'd love to land Peterson, but I doubt it happens.
April 27, 201114 yr Newton, Miller, and Dareus are all pretty much assured to be gone when we pick, which means that at least two of Peterson, Fairley, Quinn and Green will be there for our choosing. I have them ranked in that order and they all would be good value at #6. Can't pass up on Peterson if he is there. But if he is gone, I wouldn't mind trading down and picking up Kerrigan or Jones + a pick or two in the 2nd or 3rd round. We really can't go wrong. We're going to get a REALLY good player IMO. I'm more concerned about what we do in the latter rounds.
April 27, 201114 yr I'm more concerned about what we do in the latter rounds. Agreed. This draft has lots of defensive linemen and some good receivers, so I want to see how we draft to fill these critical needs. But if Peterson is there, the Browns have to take him. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 27, 201114 yr I think they can find a solid receiver in free agency. And I'm really wary of them taking Quinn. Not sold on Fairley, either. But then again I felt the same way about Clay Matthews a few years ago and look at him tearing it up in Green Bay. I guess I'm probably not so good at evaluating pass rushers, haha...
April 27, 201114 yr There's been radio talk of the Browns trading with the Vikings to acquire another 1st round pick. Not clear why or at what cost. Could be total BS.
April 27, 201114 yr The rumor I heard, albeit not specific to the Vikings, is for next year's 1st rounder.
