August 3, 200717 yr This just in Ryan Tucker has a 4 game suspension for violating the NFLs Steriod Policy... Browns season has officially begun. Next up Brady Quinn will tear all of the tendons in his throwing hand in a freak accident while finally signing his contract...
August 3, 200717 yr I suppose it could be worse. My guess is we'll see Thomas at left tackle and Shaffer at right tackle in Game 1. -Thomas was going to unseat Shaffer at left tacket at some point anyway. -Shaffer was already taking some reps at right tackle and probably had a decent chance to beat out Tucker at right tackle at some point in the season.
August 3, 200717 yr Actually from what I've heard the Browns were looking for Tucker to perform adequate so they could trade Shaffer. Shaffer has a large contract because they signed him to play left tackle, which demands more money then right tackle. In my opinion, this hurts the Browns more then just losing Tucker for 4 games. If they could trade Shaffer and Frye/Anderson before the season starts for a couple of picks, that would allow them to building up some extra picks since they don't have a 1st rounder next draft. This could possibly allow them to package several low round picks for say another 2nd rounder, giving them two 2nd rounders instead of 1 first.
August 3, 200717 yr 4-12 at the most. 1-5 in the divison with a win against Shittsburgh. I really dont think Quinn will help them out any.
August 3, 200717 yr Probably someone from pittttsburgh who frequents the board. I wont mention any names!
August 3, 200717 yr Suspension causes line shuffle Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 08.03.2007 The suspension of Ryan Tucker will test the Browns' newfound depth at the tackle position. When healthy, Tucker has been the Browns' right tackle since signing with the team in 2002. His suspension means the Browns will likely play the first four games of the season -- three home games against division rivals -- with either Kevin Shaffer or Kelly Butler at right tackle. If Shaffer plays right tackle, rookie Joe Thomas could start at left tackle. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 4, 200717 yr Good news...now Thomas takes all of the snaps at LT, Shaffer takes all of the snaps at RT, and Tucker can slide into RG (where he played on a Rams team that won the Super Bowl). Now you're line looks like LT - Thomas LG - Steinbach C - Fraley (Bentley?) RG - Tucker RT - Shaffer
August 4, 200717 yr No.. Tucker will not be playing at all until Week 6. The RG will be Seth McKinney.
August 4, 200717 yr Absolutely, Tucker looks stronger, I think the starting line as it stands right now would be Thomas, Steinbach, Fraley, McKinney, Tucker. We'll see what happens with Bentley. And I have a feeling that Schaffer is all but auditioning to be traded. He has a large salary and unless he can show something at RT, he's gone. This message is very funny now. August 4, 200717 yr Re: Tucker, I guess when you have 52 players on the roster, something is bound to happen to a few of them.
August 4, 200717 yr Wow...three people are saying 3-13? It's not like the Browns weren't competitive last year. How many games did they lose by a touchdown or less? And did the other teams in the AFC North really improve as much as the Browns? I think the Browns will win at least two of the six divisional games this season.
August 4, 200717 yr Quinn's agent invites Cleveland Browns to end contract impasse Saturday, August 04, 2007 Quinn's agent invites Browns to end talks Brady Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, has invited the Browns to Kansas City to try to break the impasse and get Quinn into camp, a league source said. August 4, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns tackle Ryan Tucker suspended for steroids violation Saturday, August 04, 2007 Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter Ryan Tucker has carried a secret the first week of training camp. Tucker knew he would miss the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL steroids policy. He flunked a random test in the off-season and was notified about five days ago. August 4, 200717 yr Quinn misses eighth day of camp as negotiations continue BEREA, Ohio -- Brady Quinn fell in the NFL draft. Now he's falling out of favor with the Cleveland Browns. The rookie quarterback's contract holdout dragged into its second week on Friday as Quinn missed his eighth day of training camp with no end in sight. For now, he's in Arizona working out while negotiations continue. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 4, 200717 yr Mark "Munch" Bishop was talking about how Quinn's holdout is messing up trade talks to send most likely Charlie Frye to either the Panthers, Vikings, or Falcons. Also, since there are only three quarterbacks in camp, those three have to take an extraordinary number of reps, and are getting worn down as a result.
August 5, 200717 yr Blame Condon. The guy's always been a hard-ass for the sake of being a hard ass. I'll bet he thinks it's for the best for his clients. It's not. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 5, 200717 yr And then there were three holdouts.. 1.Raiders - JaMarcus Russell, QB, 14. Jets - Darrelle Revis, CB, 22. Browns - Brady Quinn, QB I have a feeling Quinn will within the next 2-3 days.. it has to happen sometime soon, the only person this is hurting is Quinn right now.
August 5, 200717 yr ^ I agree. I'm figuring I'll stroll onto Cleveland.com or the Browns website and see that Quinn is signed. LeCharles Bentley was in Berea today for practice, but he didn't do much more than walk around the sidelines. He was dressed to participate, and was wearing his Browns jersey, though.
August 6, 200717 yr Browns' Bentley watches team practice, says knee is '70 percent' 8/5/2007, 7:20 p.m. EDT The Associated Press BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns center LeCharles Bentley returned to the practice field Sunday, but only as a spectator. He said his injured knee is approximately 70 percent and he hopes to join the team for practice by the end of the month. He hasn't given up on his goal of playing this season. More at www.ap.org
August 6, 200717 yr Shaffer moved to right tackle Steve King, Staff Writer 08.05.2007 It was a day to get the line on the Browns offensive line Sunday as practice was moved inside because of rain for the first time in training camp. Center LeCharles Bentley walked out onto the practice field for the first time in a year and nine days since tearing a patella tendon on July 27, 2006. Wearing his No. 57 jersey and shorts, he stood out of the way and observed. Just seeing him there lifted the spirits of everybody in the organization. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 6, 200717 yr Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns make progress in negotiations Monday, August 06, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter The Browns have made some progress in negotiations for quarterback Brady Quinn and are now only about $500,000 apart in guaranteed money. However, there are other issues holding up the deal, including the triggers for the incentive package. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 6, 200717 yr Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns make progress in negotiations The Browns have not yet taken up Condon's offer to come to Kansas City to try to hammer out the deal and are unlikely to do so. Why the hell should they go to Kansas City? Sheesh, it's the middle of training camp and Condon expects Savage to leave town??
August 6, 200717 yr I thought the same thing. It's almost insulting to suggest that the team travel to the agent's offices.
August 6, 200717 yr They say they're "close" but it's been this way for over a week. Quinn is already gonna come in with the fans not being 100% behind him no matter how well he does in camp. I think the general view is that he's out to get paid and all that stuff during the draft about him being happy to be a Brown was all crap.

I think the general view is that he's out to get paid and all that stuff during the draft about him being happy to be a Brown was all crap. Personally, I don't hold it against him. It's a business. The team can cut a guy anytime they want and the paychecks stop. The only thing promised to these guys is the signing bonus. If he gets hurt, potentially he's done. Preferably, Brady doesn't play during the early season anyway. And pre-career popularity is pretty much meaningless. A couple good games and the holdout is forgotten, and a few bad games and any pre-career popularity is....just ask Charlie Frye about that.
August 6, 200717 yr Quinn holds out as Browns, agent continue to haggle on contract By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com Updated: August 6, 2007, 11:41 AM ET Although there has been progress in negotiations over the past few days, Cleveland Browns officials and the representatives for first-round draft pick Brady Quinn remain divided over how to structure escalator clauses in the contract, and the former Notre Dame quarterback remains out of training camp. August 6, 200717 yr If he flops, causes any losses and or doesn't produce. this will come back to haunt him. We all know Browns fans are not the most forgiving!

August 7, 200717 yr From theobr.com Crennel Releases Initial Depth Chart Charlie Frye By Site Staff Posted Aug 6, 2007 There are few surprises on the team's initial depth chart. Charlie Frye, Eric Wright, and Shaun Smith are all listed as starters in the always subject-to-change first public depth chart. Browns head coach Romeo Crennel made it clear after the team's morning practice that he had no real desire to unleash a depth chart on the world's population of Browns fans, but that he was required to release one by the NFL. As the NFL speaketh, so it will be done. Or something like that. The team's depth chart, as reflected in their press release for the first pre-season game, offers next to nothing in the way of surprises. Charlie Frye, as reported earlier today, is listed as the team's top quarterback, and the suspension of Ryan Tucker simplified the situation on the right side of the line: Kevin Shaffer is listed as the starter, with Seth McKinney listed as the top right guard. Other tweaks which have been expected, but are at least seen for the first time include Eric Wright being listed as the starter at right cornerback, and Shaun Smith taking over for Orpheus Roye at left defensive end. August 7, 200717 yr Syndric Steptoe This guy should make the team just for his name! Loves it!! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 7, 200717 yr I'm surprised you like that better then his nickname "Magic Shoes." Too bad he's only 5'9"....
August 7, 200717 yr Charlie Frye listed first at quarterback on Cleveland Browns depth chart Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter Pressed to file a team depth chart to comply with NFL guidelines, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he would list Charlie Frye first at quarterback and Derek Anderson second. "I don't know what you'll read into that," he said. You might assume from the depth chart, then, that Frye would start the first preseason game against Kansas City on Saturday night. August 7, 200717 yr Rookie Wright wins nod as starter at cornerback Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter With cornerback Kenny Wright slowed by a strained groin, rookie corner Eric Wright is listed as the starter on the depth chart for Saturday night's preseason home opener against the Chiefs. "Eric has shown good ability," said Browns coach Romeo Crennel. "He's made some plays, but he's also given up some balls. That's what rookies do." More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 7, 200717 yr I don't understand why they couldn't work with the CAVS? To home grown company's should be able to work a deal out!
August 7, 200717 yr In Quinn's absence, Frye, Anderson compete for starting job By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com Updated: August 7, 2007, 9:42 AM ET While first-round draft choice Brady Quinn continues his training camp holdout, Cleveland Browns' quarterback Charlie Frye is simply trying to hold on to the starting job that he owned for much of the past 1½ seasons. And at least nominally, at this point, he's succeeding. More at www.ESPN.com.
August 7, 200717 yr Quinn's holdout from Browns over with 5-year deal Contract could be worth up to $30 million with incentives
August 7, 200717 yr Browns, Quinn settle contract Posted by Tony Grossi August 07, 2007 13:45PM Brady Quinn and the Cleveland Browns agreed to a five-year contract this morning, ending the holdout of the No. 22 pick in the draft. He missed 15 practices. The deal guarantees Quinn $7.75 million. According to a league source, the total package could approach $30 million if Quinn triggers all the escalators in the deal. Quinn is making arrangements to get to Cleveland from Phoenix, where he has been working out during his holdout. He is not expected to play in the Browns' preseason opener Saturday against Kansas City.
August 7, 200717 yr Contract could be worth up to $30 million with incentives ESPN.com news services Brady Quinn has agreed to a five-year contact with the Cleveland Browns worth $20.2 million, with $7.75 million guaranteed, ending his holdout. The deal could grow to $30 million over five years with incentives. More at www.espn.com
August 7, 200717 yr Ideally Quinn doesn't play until at the earliest Week 10. So in reality, no serious harm was done by the holdout. Either way.
