Looking at this game so far we would be IDIOTIC to trade Josh Gordon we desperately need him in our future, Greg Little not so much.

Even though he had 3 INTs I feel MUCH more confident with Hoyer as our QB. He does reads faster seems more poised and has much better ball placement than Weeden. He needs better judgment though 2 of those INTs were ridiculous. GO BROWNS!!!!

I don't buy it.  gordon affected this game an a major way.  Im not a weeden defender, but there is a reason Hoyer has been in the league for five years and has played for four different teams.  This situation has kelly holcomb written all over it.

I still want weeden under center... Or shotgun, whichever.

It was great seeing a Browns QB driving the ball down the field today, actually hitting Receiver's in stride, throwing touch passes, etc, etc..  Just too bad Hoyer didn't start the first 2 games, we'd probably be 2-1.

 

Also good to see Richardson pick up where left off, with a blistering 2.7 yards/carry.

Weeden was the 35th rated QB in the NFL last year playing with Gordon AND Richardson for 15 games.

 

Weeden is slow into drops, stares downs WR's, is incapable of throwing touch passes when needed, has poor pocket awareness, and is just not very bright.  The Browns have already moved on from him, that is why they traded Richardson, if they find something in Hoyer, that's just gravy..

35th rated with a 72.6 QB rating...... four points better than Hoyer's was today.

 

Like I said, they'll probably give Hoyer a few games (as long as he doesn't bomb against Cincy).  But I think you're letting your well documented hate for Weeden cloud your analysis more than a bit on the difference between what the two have shown.  Weeden had several games last year (both Cincy games, notably) which were much stronger QB performances than what Hoyer did today

Weeden has a career QBR of 25.8, Hoyer's QBR for today isn't out yet, but will probably be at least 50.  QBR is more of a measurement of clutch play, it removes the effect of garbage time stats.

 

Weeden didn't do anything in the first Bengals game last year until the Browns were 2 scores down and we lost the game.  In the second game he threw for 231 yards.

 

I just recognized early on that Weeden was a desperation pick by H&H and just isn't very good, probably the same view Banner and Lombardi have.

two things: 1) i wouldn't compare anyone to one of the best quarterbacks of all time. 2) this is not a conversation about the future. neither weeden nor hoyer will start opening day next year. 

lol! good lord at least give hoyer a couple more games before we start weeden and fryeing him, etc. and all that -- after all despite the ints he had 300+yds passing and won the game. if anything the lack of a running game is much more worrying than hoyer.

If he stays at 3 yards per carry, the Browns did a good job and recouped their losses from using a top-3 pick on him. Granted, they're not going to get a top-3 pick in 2014 for trading him. Indy isn't going to be so cooperative by having a bad year. But at this point he's just not worth a first-round pick.

Nor did Peterson. Anytime you hold him under 100 yards, that's a win. The only reason why the Vikings scored 27 was because some of the stupid turnovers we committed.

Bad judgment by Josh. His history and poor judgment shows he's at risk of further slip-ups, and one more failed banned-substance test means he's gone for a whole season. As a recovering alcoholic, I learned that I have to stay away from certain situations and people to avoid temptation. I hope Josh learns this soon too. Plus, to use a poor dog analogy, you don't want to take his 'bite' away.  Great receivers almost always have a certain level of 'diva' in them.

How is he going to be "tempted to repeat" the "same mistakes"?  Last I checked, most night clubs don't let you smoke the ganja on the dancefloor.  Are you suggesting that he should not be living the life of a hermit?

When he came to the NFL, Josh Gordon tested positive for codeine. He said it was from cough syrup. But codeine/prescription cough syrup is often mixed with Sprite into a popular drink called "Lean" or "the Purple Drank" that creates a high. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_drank  It is highly addictive and part of the hip-hop community. Marijuana and alcohol are entry-level drugs for those of us who are powerless against chemicals. We are always looking for the next big high. Nothing else matters. It seems Gordon is moving "up" in the world of substance abuse. THAT is what's so scary about all of this. Not scared enough?

 

JaMarcus Russell was caught abusing Lean. He was later arrested for possession of codeine which ended his NFL career.

 

And then there's Terrance Kiel, the Chargers DB who was caught trafficking in codeine in 2005 and suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Kiel died in a single-vehicle crash while driving home from a party.

And you're more thoughtful than the cwap you just put in that post.  Let's stick to the facts and not what "seems" off to you.  Other than through the use of stereotypes, the 'purple drank' allegation has no legs. 

 

The kid is 21 years old and a star athlete.  To my knowledge, he is not on any probationary status (with the league, team, or the law) which prevents him from consuming alcohol or hanging out at places that serve alcohol.  He shouldn't have to face criticism for lending his name and appearance to a local nightclub.  If he was headlining a local NORML convention, I could see your point.... even though I would much rather prefer that my star athlete smoke pot than drink alcohol.

This all strikes me as much to do about nothing. He's probably just bein rebellion.
