September 21, 201311 yr but now that you mention it jax could be a win. not if banner has any say in the matter.
September 21, 201311 yr . I also want to see why Lombardi likes Hoyer so much. Hopefully not for the same reasons he liked JaMarcus Russell! its because they're tanking.
September 22, 201311 yr Rumors of a Browns fire sale getting more specific FWIW........ Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 46m Cleveland fielding offers for and open to trading WRs Josh Gordon and Greg Little. At least one team has made a quality offer for Gordon. Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 44m Browns covet Texans free-agent-to-be RB Ben Tate. Should Cleveland land Tate, it would have him and Indy's... http://fb.me/2lAAGwmj5 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

September 22, 201311 yr i feel bad for the D in 3rd qtr since halftime, interception, punt, punt, downs, yadda. sheesh its tough out there!
September 22, 201311 yr zoicks i damn near passed out in the bar, thankfully guinness is a magic elixir.
September 22, 201311 yr Even though he had 3 INTs I feel MUCH more confident with Hoyer as our QB. He does reads faster seems more poised and has much better ball placement than Weeden. He needs better judgment though 2 of those INTs were ridiculous. GO BROWNS!!!!
September 22, 201311 yr I don't buy it. gordon affected this game an a major way. Im not a weeden defender, but there is a reason Hoyer has been in the league for five years and has played for four different teams. This situation has kelly holcomb written all over it.
September 22, 201311 yr It was great seeing a Browns QB driving the ball down the field today, actually hitting Receiver's in stride, throwing touch passes, etc, etc.. Just too bad Hoyer didn't start the first 2 games, we'd probably be 2-1. Also good to see Richardson pick up where left off, with a blistering 2.7 yards/carry.
September 22, 201311 yr ^^You could just as easily say that we would be 2-1 (or 3-0) if Gordon played in the first two games. Like I have been saying, Gordon being out on the field changes the game for our offense. You probably heard the announcers mention a half dozen times how the downfield threat he brings opens up the underneath for everybody else. That's why I had been refraining from passing judgment on the Chud/Turner offense. I would assume that Hoyer is going to get the start next week, regardless of whether Weeden is healthy enough to play. But I've been through too many flirtations with the Luke McCowns and Charlie Fryes of the world to get on the Hoyer bandwagon just yet. He made some great plays, but he also had some very questionable throws and I'm not sure he has the arm strength to put enough zip on the ball when it needs some extra pep. I am loving this defense. They needed to tighten up the containment on the 3rd down QB scrambles, but the rest of their play seems very disciplined. Desmond Bryant is earning that big paycheck. I hope that Sheard is not seriously hurt. That rotation with him, Kruger, and Mingo is really keeping the pressure on.

Weeden was the 35th rated QB in the NFL last year playing with Gordon AND Richardson for 15 games. Weeden is slow into drops, stares downs WR's, is incapable of throwing touch passes when needed, has poor pocket awareness, and is just not very bright. The Browns have already moved on from him, that is why they traded Richardson, if they find something in Hoyer, that's just gravy..
September 23, 201311 yr 35th rated with a 72.6 QB rating...... four points better than Hoyer's was today. Like I said, they'll probably give Hoyer a few games (as long as he doesn't bomb against Cincy). But I think you're letting your well documented hate for Weeden cloud your analysis more than a bit on the difference between what the two have shown. Weeden had several games last year (both Cincy games, notably) which were much stronger QB performances than what Hoyer did today
September 23, 201311 yr Weeden has a career QBR of 25.8, Hoyer's QBR for today isn't out yet, but will probably be at least 50. QBR is more of a measurement of clutch play, it removes the effect of garbage time stats. Weeden didn't do anything in the first Bengals game last year until the Browns were 2 scores down and we lost the game. In the second game he threw for 231 yards. I just recognized early on that Weeden was a desperation pick by H&H and just isn't very good, probably the same view Banner and Lombardi have.
September 23, 201311 yr Weeden can't throw while under center. Watch the first two games. 95% of the time we ran it while not in shotgun. Defenses were going to figure that out soon enough(or possibly already did). Additionally Weeden hasn't shown improvement. Peyton Manning First Season. 3 -13 record. Week 1: 1TD, 3INT Week 2: 1TD, 3INT Week 3: 0TD, 2INT Week 4: 1TD, 3INT Season Total: 26TD, 28 INT You can see that he improved by the end of the season. And the next season they went 13-3. Weeden wasn't showing that improvement. Another interesting stat, Hoyer threw 3 touchdowns in today's game, more than Weeden has ever done in a game. Also in his first game, Weeden threw 4 Interceptions. IMO, Hoyer has a better chance to be the future than Weeden, and shows the necessary skills to do so that aren't present in Weeden.

September 23, 201311 yr lol! good lord at least give hoyer a couple more games before we start weeden and fryeing him, etc. and all that -- after all despite the ints he had 300+yds passing and won the game. if anything the lack of a running game is much more worrying than hoyer.
September 23, 201311 yr Well, cinch seems to be for real. Whomever starts has their work cut out for them.
September 23, 201311 yr For what it's worth Trent Richardson had 13 carries for 35 yards with a 2.7 YPC.
September 23, 201311 yr And good lord, Mingo popping back up off the ground for the sack. Ponder had no idea what hit him.
September 23, 201311 yr Trent looked exactly the same If he stays at 3 yards per carry, the Browns did a good job and recouped their losses from using a top-3 pick on him. Granted, they're not going to get a top-3 pick in 2014 for trading him. Indy isn't going to be so cooperative by having a bad year. But at this point he's just not worth a first-round pick. And good lord, Mingo popping back up off the ground for the sack. Ponder had no idea what hit him. Nor did Peterson. Anytime you hold him under 100 yards, that's a win. The only reason why the Vikings scored 27 was because some of the stupid turnovers we committed. September 23, 201311 yr ^ and the above mentioned breakdown of QB run contain. Ponder is definitely in the top third of QBs that well face that are a down field running threat.

September 25, 201311 yr Hoyer is officially the starting QB for Sunday's home game against the Bengals I'll bet Weeden's middle finger is feeling just fine these days, though... September 27, 201311 yr Josh Gordon apparently hasn't learned to stay out of the fast lane. He is on collision course with the NFL Commissioner's office.... http://vadacleveland.com/?page_id=15 EDIT: The above poster has since been deleted from Vada's website after Kiley-Booms on 92.3 The Fan raised the issue this morning. Bad judgment by Josh. His history and poor judgment shows he's at risk of further slip-ups, and one more failed banned-substance test means he's gone for a whole season. As a recovering alcoholic, I learned that I have to stay away from certain situations and people to avoid temptation. I hope Josh learns this soon too. He's got a bright future ahead of him but nothing is guaranteed. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 27, 201311 yr who cares. as long as he doesn't get in trouble, he can do whatever he wants.
September 27, 201311 yr who cares. as long as he doesn't get in trouble, he can do whatever he wants. I agree. The media likes to stir up shit over nothing. These guys are young and have a bunch of money. They are going to party. Ideally you won't them putting themselves in a bad situation, but that's not going to happen.
September 27, 201311 yr I agree as well. So what if he is listed as the "host" of a Thursday night party by some nightclub? There is no violation of league rules. His problem was never drinking or partying.... it was smoking a substance which is now legal in several states and will, eventually, be legal nationwide. The issue over this past summer, I truly believe, was nothing big at all. If it was, the league would have slapped him with the full four games he should have got for another infraction. Plus, to use a poor dog analogy, you don't want to take his 'bite' away. Great receivers almost always have a certain level of 'diva' in them.
September 27, 201311 yr ^ exactly, no big deal. lots of sports players do that kind of appearance gig. using the uniform in the ad might be a problem tho.
September 27, 201311 yr If someone keeps making the same mistakes and he announces he's going to a place where he'll be more tempted to repeat them, if I'm Josh Gordon's employer, I'm wondering if this kid has his priorities straight. After seeing this, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade him before he repeats his pattern of destructive activity. September 27, 201311 yr Before we all jump to conclusions, has anyone confirmed if this club actually confirmed this appearance? Sometimes they go through different channels and think they have a guy confirmed, then get slapped for advertising it without an actual contract etc.

Those of who have already traveled the paths that Josh are heading down are scared to death for him. Few understand this unless they've been there. After seeing this, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade him before he repeats his pattern of destructive activity. How is he going to be "tempted to repeat" the "same mistakes"? Last I checked, most night clubs don't let you smoke the ganja on the dancefloor. Are you suggesting that he should not be living the life of a hermit?
September 27, 201311 yr When he came to the NFL, Josh Gordon tested positive for codeine. He said it was from cough syrup. But codeine/prescription cough syrup is often mixed with Sprite into a popular drink called "Lean" or "the Purple Drank" that creates a high. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_drank It is highly addictive and part of the hip-hop community. Marijuana and alcohol are entry-level drugs for those of us who are powerless against chemicals. We are always looking for the next big high. Nothing else matters. It seems Gordon is moving "up" in the world of substance abuse. THAT is what's so scary about all of this. Not scared enough? JaMarcus Russell was caught abusing Lean. He was later arrested for possession of codeine which ended his NFL career. And then there's Terrance Kiel, the Chargers DB who was caught trafficking in codeine in 2005 and suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Kiel died in a single-vehicle crash while driving home from a party. Is Josh Gordon different? Only he can answer that. EDIT: oh and so the only choices in life is to either hang out at all-night clubs where people are boozing it up or be a hermit? Really? Come now, Hts121. You're more thoughtful than that. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 27, 201311 yr And you're more thoughtful than the cwap you just put in that post. Let's stick to the facts and not what "seems" off to you. Other than through the use of stereotypes, the 'purple drank' allegation has no legs. The kid is 21 years old and a star athlete. To my knowledge, he is not on any probationary status (with the league, team, or the law) which prevents him from consuming alcohol or hanging out at places that serve alcohol. He shouldn't have to face criticism for lending his name and appearance to a local nightclub. If he was headlining a local NORML convention, I could see your point.... even though I would much rather prefer that my star athlete smoke pot than drink alcohol.
September 27, 201311 yr This all strikes me as much to do about nothing. He's probably just bein rebellion.
