^Finley had already taken two steps, was starting to move upfield, and he himself lowered the crown of his helmet.  If he keeps his head up, he does not get hurt.  The NFL is making it very hard on DBs with this transition to the new rules.  They will get it worked out, I'm sure.  But there is no consistency at the moment.

If it was just another play in the game, I wouldn't be so upset.  But that was a HUGE play.  Gipson jarred the ball loose and Mingo was up and running.  Not only did the refs get the flag wrong..... they called him down by contact and blew the whistle while Mingo was going the other way with the ball.

Finley's knee looked down to me when the ball left his hands.

I agree, it didn't look like a fumble, but it was a bad call.

The knee was down when the ball popped out..... but I thought I saw the ball pop loose in his hands just when the hit was made.  Gipson put his shoulder right on the ball, like he was coached to do.  The ball doesn't have to be out of your hands for it to be a fumble.  The second he lost 'control' of the ball, it was a fumble.  It at least called for a second look..... but that was precluded by the penalty.  Even if it really was a fumble, the Pack would have got the ball back +15 yards.

Rob Chudzinski considering benching Brandon Weeden after Cleveland Browns loss in Green Bay

BEREA, Ohio -- It might be two flips and out for embattled Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden.

Coach Rob Chudzinski admitted Monday that the Browns are considering benching Weeden, who punctuated each of his last two losses with panicked, backhanded or underhanded flips to Chris Ogbonnaya. One was picked off and the other nearly was.

They were the poster-passes for Weeden's back-to-back poor outings, which may have earned a look at backup Jason Campbell Sunday against the 7-0 Chiefs. Asked if he was considering sitting Weeden down, Chudzinski said, "Yeah, at all positions we're considering it and looking at that, that's typically what we do every week."

Last week, after the loss to Detroit, Chudzinski came out right away in his Monday post-mortem and said he was sticking with Weeden. Not so this week?

"Right,'' he said. "We're going to look at it and talk again.''

He earned a 48.6 rating during Sunday's 31-13 loss to Green Bay and completed only 17 of his 42 attempts with one touchdown and one interception.

Seriously, what is that going to solve. This team still has a lot of holes, namely QB, RB, RG, WR, Nickel-back and SS. Starting Campbell won't increase our chances of winning or any chance of making the playoffs. Isn't that the ultimate goal? We needed to play Weeden to see if he had the moxie to be a starting QB in the NFL. He has clearly proven that he does not. Mystery solved. It also solves the mystery of whether Heckert should have been retained. The answer is no. He made some decent picks but the 2012 draft was what you would call "screw the pooch". The jury is still put on Scwartz.Maybe Weeden has a chance to be a reserve in this league without the pressure but no chance of being a starting QB. If anything, the G.B. should have shown you what the difference is of having a really good QB and having we have....a backup QB at best.

For those of you who thought Heckert did a "good job drafting, here's my grades on his three drafts. I won't bother with the rounds after the 5th unless he snagged someone worthwhile:

2010 Draft:

1st Rd Pick 7/Joe Haden: A

2nd Rd T.J.Ward : B

2nd Rd 2B (Traded up)Montario Hardesty: D- Supposedly our back of the future?

3rd Rd Shaun Lauvao: C+ He's been given a ton of chances to succeed.

3rd Rd Colt McCoy: C

5th Rd Larry Assante: F

2011 Draft: This was a pretty productive draft so far

1st Rd Pick 21: Phil Taylor: B+

2nd Rd: Jabaal Sheard: A-

2nd Rd: Gregg Little: C---- I was a big fan of this pick when it was made

4th Rd: Jordan Cameron: B+ He may turn out to be the steal of the draft...the entire draft

4th Rd: Own Marecic: F Whoooo????

5th Rd Jason Pinkston: B- With room for improvement

Continuing into 2012 Draft:

3rd overall: Richardson - F

22nd overall: Weeden - F-

2nd round: Schwartz - D (needs moved to G)

3rd round: Hughes - C

4th round: Benjamin - C+ (strictly a returner)

4th round: JMJ - F

5th round: Miller - F

6th round: Acho - I

6th round: Winn - A (blind squirrel found a nut)

As far as earlier drafts, I'd give the Ward pick a D when you look at other players still on the board, and he was projected by most to go in the 4th/5th round.

The Browns still need another CB, at least one S, ILB, RT, LG, RB, WR, another TE, and of course QB.

I was somewhat WTF about Schwartz when he was picked as I had several OTs ranked higher.  But he looked good last year.  Early this year, being next to Cousins didn't help him.  The OL and DBs are the most interconnected parts of a team.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd Campbell becomes the 20th QB to start for Browns since 1999

RIP Brandon.

Might be a situation where the cure is worse than the disease..... if that is possible.

I can't wait to see the jersey in the Brokaw advertising window.

While I've never been a fan of Weeden, I just can't see Campbell performing at a significantly higher level. Either way this might be a good Sunday to keep expectations low or find something better to do.

Believe it or not, Campbell gets sacked more frequently than Weeden.  He might not hold onto the ball as long, but his delivery is painfully slow.  The Chiefs are going to pin their ears back and get after it.... which they would've done if Weeden was starting anyway.

I have no doubt that Jason Campbell will play less awful than Brandon Weeden.

So that means you are not currently the president of the Jason Campbell Fan Club, correct? :)

How about Josh Gordon to NE for Ryan Mallet and there 2nd round pick. I think this would be a good trade for both teams, and would save the browns from using all there picks to trade up for a QB

NE would never do that trade.  Belichek values draft picks more than Banner does.

And I don't like it anyway for the Browns.  You're trading a proven talent (albeit with off-field concerns) for an unproven QB (with a big arm and slow feet, I might add...... sound familiar?) and a middle to late second round pick.

That said, after some further evaluation, I can't say I am enamored with the QB class for this year's draft.  Certainly no Andrew Luck in it, IMO.  Truth be told, I think the best QB in college football right now is not draft eligible - FSU's Jameis Winston.

I have no doubt that Jason Campbell will play less awful than Brandon Weeden.

Correct, but I do promise not to boo him.....for at least a couple games anyway.

I'd rather go after Kirk Cousins, especially if you are going to trade Gordon.  Griffin was his college QB.

I had a feeling Hoyer would perform well.  I don't have the same feeling about Campbell.  I hope I'm wrong, but if not, go ahead and give Tebow a tryout.  Can't hurt.

youre inviting the circus for no reason if you try tebow out.

No reason to make it public...

There is no way Tebow coming to Cleveland will be kept a secret. It was leaked when he was at the Cleveland Clinic for something unrelated to the Browns.

Tebow isn't coming to Cleveland, and Cleveland isn't going to Tebow.  Why waste time discussing it?

As of right now, Jason Campbell has a QB Rating of 138.0.  If he keeps this up, we just may sneak out of KC with a W.

How does Bess suck so bad for us?  Unreal.

Special teams has been terrible today!

And another f'ing drop by Bess.  Game over.

Bess is the new Greg Little, now it seems like we over compensated for him!

Browns made it interesting, so refreshing watching a competent QB lead the Offense.

KC awarded the game ball to Bess, nice job Davone.

KC is the most underwhelming 8-0 team that I have ever seen....

I'll admit That I basically was ready to turn the  game off after the first quarter. Glad I left it on.

At least it was somewhat entertaining. Looks like Campbell has the job until the end of the year if he stays upright.

I was going to change the channel at end of the second half but, like Bess, I dropped the remote control.

It's gotta be that #15 jersey, right?  I say burn it and trade/cut anybody who has worn it.

The Curse Of Mike Phipps?

T. Benji tore his ACL.  Out for the season.  Sucks.

^damn, I wish I hadn't read that.

I don't have high hopes for this team anymore, but yesterday hurt to watch because they had such a great shot at pulling it out.  You have to blame just one player when you have more than 30 guys seeing significant playing time, but that muffed punt was pretty much the difference in the game.  They went from potentially having the ball near mid-field with plenty of time to drive for at the very least a field goal, to instead flipping the field and making a comeback much more difficult.

Did anyone understand Josh Cribbs' damage control comments? What did I just read?

Josh Cribbs was talking about the arse kicking The Jets received and supposedly he said "this team (The Jets) don't quit fighting like they do in Cleveland" or something to that effect. He claims he was misquoted.

Watching the Browns win was great.  Cutting in to watch the steelers lose was icing on the cake.

Chud was a riverboat gambler today.  Made a lot of calls that the media slams him on if they don't work.  Campbell was also clutch on several big plays.

I haven't been that cold at a game in a long time -- and loved every minute of it! So I've attended two games this and the Browns won both -- against Cincy and now the B-less Ravens. So here's some great stats from 92.3 The Fan's Daryl Ruiter: "@RuiterWrongFAN: Weeden 5 TDs, 6 INTS, sacked 21x ... Campbell + Hoyer = 10 TDs, 3 INTs & sacked 10x #Browns"

Campbell was awesome today... Funny how good Greg Little looks when he has an actual NFL quarterback throwing to him.  We still have a shot at the division; we need to go down and win in Cincy... I'm convinced we'd be 5-5 if we had gone with Campbell over Weedon in the Detroit (aka "Flipper") game.

... btw, gotta give a shout out to Ray Horton's stingy D... Nice to see Mr. Flacco planted on his arse so many times today by our fearsome pass rush.  Our D bent but didn't break in the 4th quarter.  They gave the ball back to Campbell and the offense to engineer the game-sealing FG drive late.

Weeden is the new benchmark for bad 1st round picks

Speaking of flipper, ironic that Campbell's flip sealed the win today.

I think it was more of a shovel than Weedon's blind flip... Whatever you call it, at least it worked and all but put a dagger in Balto's hopes... No late game heroics for the Flac-man today!

Wow, awesome. Just checked the scores. Browns beat Ravens, and Steelers lose. All-in-all a great Sunday!

All this D needs is a good game-manager at QB.  Campbell has proved to be that..... although he has certainly gotten lucky a few times with balls that could have been picked.  I don't know how many 3 TD, 0 INT games we can expect out of a guy whose career was never highlighted by a good TD-INT rate.

No.... it was the same play.  There just wasn't a defender close enough to cut in front of it.  Luckily Ed Reed is no longer with the Ravens..... that is the type of pick-6 he routinely made against us to win the game

I think what really makes him look better is actually catching balls that hit him on the hands.  But celebrating first downs more ethusiastically than most players celebrate touchdowns or getting PFs which negate the gains he just made are not good lasting images.  I love his toughness, but he needs to 'stay in his lane'

I think we'll see alot of up and down moments from Campbell throughout the season.  That pretty much marks the way his career has been.  He had a good season with Washington in 06 or 07, followed by a couple decent games in 08, then a major flop.  Started out OK with Oakland when he was released, then flopped again before he lost the starting position.  Heck, the guy has potential.  He played very well in the SEC and came out has a top prospect QB.  Great arm stregnth, good size, but way to "gutsy".  Throws alot of questionable passes that one would have to get lucky to complete, and hangs out in the pocket way too long in my opinion.
