Posted January 20, 201015 yr Does anyone have photos of the old CAC down on 5th street? I have been a member of the CAC since they moved to the new building, but I never got the chance to go to the old one. I see the space from the outside, and wonder how it could have ever been a museum, so I am really intrigued. Any stories or pictures of the old space would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone would like to add any photos of the new building, this thread could be for that as well.
June 30, 201014 yr it was more of a gallery space than a museum. there were a few large rooms where it displayed exhibits and there were offices scattered throughout some of the mercantile center complex. It is nothing like it is now, where there is actually muesum and event space.
June 30, 201014 yr It had a symmetrical layout with two or three steps leading into the exhibition areas, which could be separated for different shows or combined. The floors were a light wood and its two windows faced the north so they never got direct sunlight. Depending on the show they either left them completely open, toned them down, or covered them completely. The entrance was on the skywalk level and if you were on the skywalk it put you right there, otherwise you went up an escalator.
July 1, 201014 yr I remember going there for a Louise Nevelson exhibit in the 70's. I think there was a Walgreen's (or some such chain drug store) on the lower level. Very nondescript exterior, if I recall it correctly. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
