Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Guardians merch sales exceed team's expectations

Cleveland’s baseball team — named after the Guardians of Traffic sculptures on the Hope Memorial Bridge — officially opened for business on Friday, Nov. 19, and the Progressive Field team store did big business, with sales over the first three days exceeding expectations by 40%, according to Austin Controulis, the team’s manager of communications.

The team had more than 750 fans on Friday alone. The shop had 945 total transactions and 3,100 total items sold between Friday and Sunday, Nov. 21.

I happened across this tweet from the U.S. Space Force.  Apparently they call their service members Guardians and use the same #Guardians hashtag as the new nickname of the Cleveland professional baseball team.

^hmm,  it good, bad or neutral for this carpet bagger to be a minority owner?

i see he is also cleared for majority ownership at some point.

in the meantime, we fans will take his money and hopefully investment.

Well, Gilbert and Haslam are carpet baggers.

yeah, but i didnt mean whuddaboud -- i meant this blitzer guy in particular.

i see he is invested in multiple pro sports teams, i guess its his thing -- i dk much more about him.

hard to believe, but its only a month until spring training.

that is, if teams and players resolve their contract issues.

if so --

pitchers and catchers tba

reds on feb 26 opens spring training games at goodyear and end them on mar 27

kc at the prog mar 31 opens the season

and for now --- mlb dot com's top breakout prospects by team:

AL CENTRAL

Guardians

Preseason prediction: George Valera, OF (No. 2, MLB No. 63)
Postseason pick: Logan Allen, LHP (No. 10)

Valera certainly put together a strong season at the plate, mashing a career-high 19 homers, but we’re giving the edge to Allen, who went 9-0 with a 2.26 ERA and 143 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings in his professional debut. Cleveland’s second-round pick from the 2020 Draft worked his way up to Double-A utilizing a trio of pitches, the best of which is his plus changeup. Allen, who sits in the low 90s with his fastball, held opponents to a .193 average and posted a 0.93 WHIP last season. After such a spectacular debut, Allen has definitely set the bar high for 2022.

Cleveland Guardians Prospects & Minor Leagues

Brayan Rocchio is our No. 2 Guardians prospect. Who should be No. 3?

“The Professor” took High-A and Double-A pitchers to school in 2021

By Matt Lyons@mattrly Jan 12, 2022, 10:00am EST

With a third of yesterday’s vote, shortstop Brayan Rocchio joins 2017 international signing class partner George Valera on our top-20 prospect list.

Last season, when Rocchio was ranked as Cleveland’s No. 6 overall prospect, Brian Hemminger posed the question: Could 2021 be the year he takes the leap? If the jump from No. 6 overall to No. 2 is any indication, yes. Yes he did.

The season is coming up! I am particularly excited about Mark Schatz, Jeremy Copeck, and especially Coco Sparx.

A few more up-and-comers like that, and we could have a truly memorable summer!

well the tribe, whoops i mean guardians, looks to be pretty hot right out the gate in this abreviated spring training.

what does that mean though in the regular season? 🤷‍♂️

Wow. Died a year later at the age of 88 in Newcomerstown, Ohio five miles from where he was born in Gilmore in March 29, 1867 -- 155 years ago tomorrow.

Well, here we go folks. Between Beiber starting and the shocking Ramirez extension (damn, does someone have dirt on the Dolans?), I'm feeling good about today.

Also, go Cubs.

Also, enjoy the day off Boston and Yankee dolts.

Apparently the c-word isn't always censored. Whoops.

I feel the Guardians are gonna be somewhat like the Cavs have been this season. Young, trending upwards, better than expected, but probably falling short of making a post-season impact this year.

My hovercraft is full of eels

Let's hope they can stay healthy.  Seems like that has been a problem with our pro sports teams recently.

^ Yeah. That’s going to be the main issue, especially with a short pre-season. Not making any acquisitions this off season means the squad lacks depth. A few banged-up players for any period of time and things could go south in a hurry.

If the Dolans ever wanted the Boomers to stop whining about the Guardians name change, this is not the way to do it.   They should have spent big and made a run for the Series immediately.

Truth is the Indians started getting worse when they dropped Chief Wahoo, plus Tito missed some significant time.   Looks like if there was a curse, it went the opposite of the way the activists might have hoped.   Someone did some research I saw and over the years, their record was significantly better when some version of the Chief was on their cap.

Watch the Blue Jays this year, Shapiro's been doing the kind of magic he did here.

@E RoccI'm interpreting this comment as satire, right?   😉  Go Guards!

Further back than that, they had a version of him on there in 1948 and 1954.

Chief Wahoo debuted in 1947 and was retired in January of 2018. 71 seasons, one championship. The legacy of Chief Wahoo is a legacy of losing.

Four pennants with him on the cap, nothing without.

But that's some argument you're making. Fighting to the bitter end.

Get ready for a long frustrating baseball season, I’m afraid,  Guardians fans - looks like we’ll have some excellent pitching but very very little hitting.

Nice reverse jinx!

I knew the best way to guarantee a batting explosion was to post that we wouldn’t hit this year - I just didn’t expect 17 runs worth of hat eating today.  Hope you guys appreciate me!

Most people thought the abbreviated spring training would benefit pitchers.   Oddly enough a lot of young pitchers (Bubic, Julio Urias, even Ohtani was iffy) were off for their initial outings.   While the older guys like Adam Wainwright, Kyle Gibson, and Carlos Carrasco did well.

AND the reverse jinx continues with today’s 10 run outburst…..

How about using reverse jinx for the Cavs.

First place!

ugh, we have had tix for a week, so going to the game today aftet that epic collapse and those disgusting, disgraceful yankees fans. just my cle sports luck.

^We were at the Saturday game at Yankee stadium in 2019 and stood in the SRO section in centerfield. The good news was that we were far from the only Indians fans in that section. The bad news was that the locals were obnoxious beyond belief. It really was like it was a day-release from a medium-security psych unit. Greg Allen was in center that day and got dog’s abuse all afternoon.

There were Yankme fans online yesterday trying to blame Myles Straw, I found that saying Mets fans have way more class was quite triggerring.    :)

^ there was mild booing of straw his first at bat, but nothing from fans after that because of the blow out.

there was for me though -- i got ticked off at the guards getting skulled and swept and stormed out of there early lol. my spouse was rightly ticked off for wasting her sunday.

we have the new minor league ferryhawks team starting up down the block here, so i will stick with that this summer. 😂
