Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Should have started Bieber.

Just poured myself a large one. Gonna sit back and reflect on a great season and look forward to 2023 when we’re gonna be even better.

oh well, young, playing with house money anyway, etc..

congrats to the guardians for being entertaining and doing better than we expected. they’ll be back in the playoffs next year and we’ll see what happens.

The Guardians have to get some more power into the lineup next year.   It's a shame Framil Reyes flamed out.  The definitely need more offense from the catcher position. Maybe Bo Naylor will be able to provide it, or else bring in a veteran free agent.  And if Miles Straw can't get things figured out at the plate, he will need to be replaced.

I'm still disappointed at the way the last game played out, but give me a few weeks and I'll be happier looking back on a surprisingly successful season.

Assuming that the Game 5 roster represented our best lineup, I'm happy enough with our pitching and our defense but I really want to see some improvement at the plate.

The leading three in the lineup, Kwan, Rosario, Ramirez, played decently and got on base at a good clip (over 0.300 OBP in the playoffs, against the best pitching).  The last spots in the lineup are traditionally weak, and are filled with players who bring something else to the table -- typically defensively (Hedges and Straw in our case).  It would be nice if they could find more ways to get on base, but expectations are low for batting average and slugging at the back of the lineup.  But the middle of the order was a real disappointment in the final game (in 16 at-bats - 1 hit, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts)  -- Gonzalez (playoffs OBP only 0.250 with a 0.226 average), Naylor (playoffs 0.194 OBP and 0.194 average), Arias (playoffs 0.273 OBP and 0.273 average -- actually better in the playoffs than expected), Gimenez (playoffs 0.207 OBP and 0.179 average).

The Yankees weren't significantly better in BA against the Guardians' pitching, but made up for it with 4 players over 0.500 in slugging percentage to the Guardians' 1 (Ramirez).   If just one of Gonzalez, Naylor, Arias, and Gimenez had had a postseason BA over 0.250 or a slugging percentage over .700, I think that would have been the difference we needed to overcome the Yankees.  We're so close to being the better team.

Regular season, the Yankees had 4 players with a BA over 0.250, the Guardians had 5.  Of the players with an on-base percentage over 0.300, the Yankees had 7 (almost 8), and the Guardians had 7 (almost 8).

I like our pairing of quality pitching and deep ability to get on base with singles/doubles/walks -- small-ball is fun.  We don't have to be a team of home run hitters like NY, but over the course of the regular season they had three players with slugging percentages over 0.600 and we had none.  Ramirez was the only regular player with a slugging percentage over 0.500 (Will Brennan was the only other).  Just one better slugger, one better hitter with men-on-base, and we reach the ALCS and have a chance at the World Series.  So close hurts today, but the future is bright.

Probably felt like they had to do it since it was the last series they're going to win this season.

^ I’m especially delighted for Kwan. What a rookie season he had. I’m really doing my best not to get carried away about the kid, but I really think he’s a superstar in the making.

I'm glad the fans and the staff didn't give up on him while he was slumping after his electric start.  He proved to be very resilient and consistent!  Plus, he looks like he's having a good time out there, which I love to see.

Tito named manager of the year.

I hope his health holds out and we have him for many more years.   He's a great manager, and also a great citizen of Cleveland!   Love that he rides his scooter from his home downtown and is gracious with all the fans!

I think we would all love to see Tito riding his scooter in a championship parade downtown.

Damn, what is going on with recent ex-Indians pitchers? Something in the water here?

If Kluber is next, I'm going to be heartbroken.

Guess we ended up dodging at least two bullets now.

pre-pre-season espn power rankings —

12. Cleveland Guardians

Final 2022 regular-season ranking: 8

There isn't a whole lot to be wringing your hands about when it comes to the Guardians. Yeah, maybe they could have been a little more aggressive when it comes to filling out the handful of needs their young but already accomplished roster needed. They needed a first base/DH bat and Josh Bell fits the bill, but could they have made a bigger splash with a bigger investment? And at catcher, the Guardians were linked to the Murphy sweepstakes and ended up with Mike Zunino. Still, Cleveland has emerged as a clear-cut favorite to repeat in its division, and given that a roster so young should get better simply because that's what good young players tend to do, you'd have to dig deep to be worried about the Guardians. -- Doolittle

The subject of this article is quite interesting. However, the awful writing, and the web site on which it’s hosted, are abominations.

Hey baseball lovers, this seems like a good deal (especially if you live close to the stadium)

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Holy expletive! Theoretically $3.62 a game for a competitive team?

And probably for 90% of the games you will probably end up sitting in a seat at some point unless they rope you off in some area or really police it.

This is a great move in my opinion.  Seems similar to the Kipnis extension, though Giminez is younger than Kip was during his extension.  I know they are working on getting something finalized with Trevor Stephan, and I hope Kwan is next.  I think he's worth tying up for a few years, though he is early on in his career and it'll be a while before he starts getting really expensive.  It may be worth the risk to control the cost now.  Heh, I could never be a GM.  Lots of moving parts!

Very good news. We've got to lock in decent hitters, and Gimenez certainly made up for a crappy 2021 last year.

i imagine they will have the roof open in seattle for opening day. its a projected high of 53 and partly sunny.

Game is at night though. Mid 40s. At least there's no rain.

12.5 hours to go!!!!!!! Holy s-hit I'm psyched about the season.

Edit: I'm thinking 95-67 and eliminated in game 6 of the World Series. /remindmeinNovember.

Fun start to the season but these late games are killing me. Do they not have afternoons out west?

Wednesday's game starts at 3:37 EDT.

Any UO'ers headed to the Home Opener? I'm giving the 'unlimited plan' a go, if anything it was cheaper to buy that then secondary home opener tix hah.

Early 70s but potential storms.

It's going to be a strange home opener.

Wednesday's game is in Oakland.  60 degrees and partly cloudy.
