Jesus, it's been an interesting opening week of baseball.

I'm exhausted already. But first place is first place!

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

John should be inducted into the Hall of Fame, if he's the first fan who is more deserving?

Attendance must be down already as the Guards are offering upper deck tickets for $11 against the Yanks this week.   Hopefully they keep up these promotions to get people to come out.

sooo …. on paper with pitching at least the guards should take 2/3 from these yankees. beiber hands down to start the series. then cole will prevail likely, but who knows our giant stork beardo gaddis is fun and tough as nails. as a fan, best game to watch for sure. lastly civale is much better than this nitwit schmidt.

I've only been to one opening day previously BUT (aside from playoffs) this is the most full I've seen the stadium in a long time. Usually they 'sell out' with the last sections up top unsold but they were all full. Whether or not folks paid for those tickets vs using the SRO tix it probably doesn't matter much. Maybe Dolans are being pushed by the new ownership group to fill seats vs milk more money from fewer people.

It was nice floating around the stadium again, here's the view from one of my stops in the tippy top shipping containers.

Nice win tonight.

And they already have 2 starting pitchers on the IR. Good grief.

Washington gifted us that one yesterday. We better capitalize the next two days.

And... sigh.... go yanks

Guardians need to start scoring more than 3 runs per game.

Guardians score a grand total of 3 runs in the doubleheader vs Tigers.  Good grief.

Mother Nature is not being nice to the Guardians. Thursday was beautiful, but no game was scheduled.

Hopefully some spare coin to acquire a couple players that can hit.

Another blown save by Clase last night. I think that is 4 now. Wth?

Guardians explode for 6 runs in the 8th to stun the Angels 8-6. Holy cow!

^ to stun the world! 😂

Mind-blowing

That was I “I found a lucky hole in the infield.” Can Bo Naylor hit?

Lethargic Guardians shutout by White Sox and lose another series.  They scored a grand total of 5 runs in the series.

^ I hope they turn it around, but I feel the reality is that the 2023 Guardians are the team we thought the 2022 Guardians would be.

I can't wrap my head around how a team can be this bad. They're worse offensively than the A's are on pace to be one of the worst MLB teams of all time.

looks like the guards only got half their rights money out of diamond/bally/sinclair:

Diamond Sports Group fails to pay Padres, loses broadcast rights

Alden Gonzalez, ESPN Staff WriterMay 30, 2023, 07:06 PM ET

Diamond has paid only half its rights fees to the Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Houston, during which a bankruptcy judge will preside over Diamond's claims that it should essentially pay lesser rights fees to those teams in order to account for the market forces that have diminished the traditional cable model in recent years. The judge's ruling, which might not be made until late Thursday afternoon, will play a big role in Diamond determining which other contracts it keeps or sheds as part of the bankruptcy process.

^ Sweep or go home! The homestand was decent, although it could’ve been great. That Sunday loss to the Brewers was a very winnable game.
I don’t fancy our chances much against the Braves this weekend, so all 3 in KC would be nice.

My hovercraft is full of eels

Tito hospitalized in KC.  No details yet.  Hopefully nothing serious.  One has to wonder how much longer he will remain at Guardians manager.

Well, first place was nice while it lasted.

39-42 and a half a game back. It's been a pretty quiet ride.

Jesus what a season.

But first place is first place.

Jesus what a division.

The Twins have an easy second half, but that said, if you take out their games against the Royals, they’d be like 10 games under .500 at the break. Not saying we’re gonna win the division again, but we’ve still a real shot.

speaking of hopeful, lets hope this hs draft pick works out, seems good for #23 —

23. Cleveland Guardians: Ralphy Velazquez, C, Huntington Beach (Calif.) HS

Who is Velazquez? A left-handed hitter who had a decorated high school career, Velazquez is a bat-first catcher with an emphasis on "bat" because there are a lot of doubts about whether he can remain behind the plate. His speed probably limits him to first base if he does have to change positions.

Why the Guardians took him here: There is no question about Velazquez's hitting ability, which ranks among the best of any high school player in this draft, and that's what the Guardians are betting on here. If Velazquez can develop enough defensively to stay behind the plate, this pick could look like a steal as he makes his way toward Cleveland. If not, the Guardians can still feel good about getting one of the most powerful bats in this draft this close to the back of Round 1. -- Mullen

Next seasons schedule is here. If the April 8th Home Opener against the White Sox is an afternoon game, I hope they remember to turn on the floodlights!

espn 2nd half predictions —

Cleveland Guardians

Record: 45-45 | Projected final record: 81-81

Division title odds: 29% | Playoff odds: 30% | Championship odds: 1%

Unexpected score: 89.1 (26th)

What nobody saw coming: This is kind of awkward. After the Guardians won the division last year as baseball's youngest club and gave the Yankees a tough battle in the ALDS, what would you say if we told you Cleveland entered the break in first place? Shrug? But what if we told you that this was the case even though a team that won 92 games last year was playing .500 ball and had been outscored by seven runs? It's weird. The offense has been the primary source of the shortfall. While the contact-oriented attack has similar top-line percentages as 2022, Cleveland has been less consistent with runners in scoring position.

What to expect from here: Everything mentioned in the previous section could be construed as good news for the fans in Cleveland. Yes, the .500 mark is disappointing but if preseason forecasts mean anything, the Guardians can look forward to better play during the second half. And if that happens, they do so as a first-place club thanks to the generous environment of the Central. Even that situational hitting issue we mentioned tends to regress to the mean. Cleveland very much needs to add punch to its lineup. But after some iffy moments during the season's opening months, the Guardians have emerged as a very similar-looking club to the one we saw go toe-to-toe with the Yankees last October. -- Doolittle

NFL owners approve $6.05B sale of Commanders to Harris group

John Keim, ESPN Staff WriterJul 20, 2023, 04:52 PM ET

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Washington Commandersno longer belong to Dan Snyder.

The Harris group is paying $6.05 billion, a record sum for a North American sports franchise. Snyder had owned the majority of the Commanders since 1999, and his family became the sole owners after he bought out his limited partners two years ago.

Harris said he felt "humbled and awed" to be the new owner.

NFL owners voting during a special session Thursday unanimously approved the team's sale from the Snyder family to a group led by Josh Harris.

Over 38,000 at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario last night. Same expected for tonight's game. Attendence is up significantly this season. Dolan might need to revise the renovation plans to accommodate larger crowds.

A few ago I was seated at the top of the upper deck (usually don't sit that high up) and I noticed they took out the last row of seats.  I guess this was part of their seating reduction plan they implemented a number of years ago and figured it  ran the length of the upper deck.  I wonder if, now that they will be losing so many seats in the far left field upper deck as part of the renovation, they will return this last row of seating to make up for it.

Edited by Htsguy

Based on the renderings I saw, it looks like they plan on putting seats back in some of the sections in right field upper deck where there are shipping containers. So I assume that will offset the seats they plan to remove in left field upper deck. Maybe they should just leave left field upper deck as is and focus on fixing the sections with shipping containers.

It's not looking good.  After the series with KC and the White Sox, the remainder of the schedule is brutal.
