Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

17. Jose Ramirez, 3B, Cleveland Guardians

By some measures, 2023 was a typical year for Ramirez. He was still an All-Star and finished 10th in MVP voting, but his OPS+ dropped by 17 points from the previous season. It doesn't help that he has little protection in a weak Guardians lineup; that's undoubtedly part of the reason he's led the league in intentional walks in each of the past two years.

But Ramirez isn't one to lament what Cleveland doesn't have. He just makes the most of his situation, usually attacking the one good pitch he does get per at-bat. And he continues to be a threat on the bases, stealing at least 20 in five of the past six seasons. An .800 OPS or better is a given for Ramirez -- and should be again this year.

Season prediction: He won't break Bonds' record of 120 intentional walks in one season, achieved in 2004, but Ramirez will lead the league in them once again. And he'll set another career high for himself after earning 22 IBB last year. -- Rogers

AL CENTRAL

Guardians
Opening Day: March 28 at A’s

Cleveland will host the White Sox and Yankees for its first homestand of the season between April 8-14, but a more hotly anticipated visit from a New York team will come the next month. The Mets will be at Progressive Field from May 20-22, which will be Francisco Lindor’s first time suiting up there as a visitor after getting traded prior to the 2021 season. Lindor did already face the Guardians at Citi Field, hitting a walk-off single in the 10th inning of the first matchup.

Game 1 in two days.

Can't say I'm feeling that excited though. Weird.

I'm just as excited as I always am, but I've always been an eternal optimist about the team.  I do think there are going to be some fun times this season, and I didn't get to go to as many games in person last year for various reasons, so I'm looking forward to the ballpark experience again.  Just not until May... I still think April is usually too cold for the games here.

Been a while since we've had an offense on game one.

2 and 0 folks.

160 to go.

OK, now that we're 2-0, my optimism says we are going to the World Series this year.

LOL, what, no "June swoon?"

Not this time.  162-0 this year, with a +300 run differential!

We better hope the Twins are nearly as good as the pundits are saying they are! 😁

^ I was there and I can believe it.

Thanks for coming. See you next year.

Shane Bieber needs elbow surgery.

He had pain after his Opening Day start that continued through his outing in Seattle. Imaging revealed an injury to the same ligament that gave him trouble last year. Surgery was determined to be the best path forward this time.

Cleveland pro sports teams are definitely cursed. As for the 2016 Cavs, I'm convinced there was some divine intervention there.

You know the rules though. Everyone who gets modern day Tommy John surgery seems to come back even more dominant.

But he won't come back to the Guardians.

Im not against the pitch clock...but, pitchers need a little more time between pitches for recovery. It is comparable to the rest you need between sets when lifting weights. Throwing a baseball at 90+mph puts a termendous amount of stress on your body. I think you will see an increase in injuries for pitchers.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Bieber's injury. Although, I don't believe he had issues with injuries prior to last year.

Clock needed more for batters than pitchers. I was more annoyed with batters stepping out after every pitch to take practice swings and adjust everything on their body.

Yeah, a guy in my keep 16 league dropped Sandy Alcantara and for the life of me I don't get why.

I have 63.5 out of a possible 70 (14 team 5X5) with Sandy and Ohtani (as a pitcher) out.

This Boston series is WACKY.

And hello 700 winning percentage. Best team in the majors folks. On pace for a cool 114 wins.

Most games at Fenway are wacky.

Got a hunch it'll be a competitive weekend. The A's are playing far better than you'd think

Is that so?

All jokes aside, the A’s played a decent ballgame and had a few good moments — but it’s great to see Cleveland pull out a series sweep to help cement their standing in the ALC.

Yep, I was just a wee bit off.

Not just the AL Central, the Guardians have the best record in the AL, and second best winning percentage in all of baseball (which will be the best in baseball if the Braves lose tonight).  The Guardians also have the best run differential in all of baseball, and it's not even close.

Guardians can't beat the lowly White Sox. Wth?

And the beat goes on. Guardian have forgotten how to score runs.

They miss Kwan.

I realize that, but they are playing the worst team in baseball. Kwan's absence just magnifies the ineptitude of the starting lineup. Several of them aren't even hitting .200.

New promotional jerseys unveiled. I like that they pay a lot more homage to the actual guardians. I wouldn't mind even more, but in my opinion these are a big step up from their day to day uniforms, which seem to avoid drawing attention to the name change.

This is also the first time I've seen an official "guardian" styled logo, which I think is cool and long overdue, even if it's an alternate. I've seen several very cool unofficial logos, but it's nice to see an official one.

Those look cool. I dig the stylized font.

That Chicago series was perplexing; good to see the Rangers giving us some breaks.

Mets' Francisco Lindor, back in Cleveland, most misses 'winning'

Associated Press
May 20, 2024, 10:19 PM ET

CLEVELAND -- Three years later, Francisco Lindor finally came home.

Walking back into Progressive Field as a visitor for the first time on Monday, Lindor's mind quickly filled with memories of spraying champagne -- and a painful night when a World Series title slipped away.

They’re so much fun to watch this year. We went to the game this afternoon and they seemed so lifeless for the first five innings, yet you never felt like the game was entirely up. Once they get a spark, in this case Austin Hedges, of all people, bunting his way onto base, you could feel the momentum shift in an instant.

I grabbed this logo from a Guardians post game show, so I am not sure if it belongs to them or one of their broadcast partners. I have never seen it before. It really is a great logo, it is about 100 times better than that baseball with the wings logo they currently use. I just did some mock-ups to see what it would look like on a uni. Would love to see this used on the field.

They definitely need a new logo.  The flying baseball looks very minor league-ish.

alright, alright, alriiiight.

Probably the most exciting stat in baseball, albeit it's been a dull year for pitching and hitting numbers, and it's not getting much traction.

As of this moment, Kwan is hitting 396, though not yet qualified to be ranked. I believe he needs 11 more at bats to be the list, so by Monday he should be appear there, I think. CBS Sports seems to think he needs more, whereas the Cleveland.com blurb states he just needs 11 at bats.

Most exciting run since Manny's 165 RBIs and Bell's 50 home runs, and this is way more impressive.

It’s super impressive, but 50 homers/50 doubles has happened exactly once in MLB history. Belle is more impressive to me, but Kwan is awesome and I hope he gets .400
