So @TBideon  FWIW. According to ESPN; It requires an average of 3.1 plate appearances per team game to be in contention for any batting title. By that metric and due to his injury time off, Kwan is currently averaging 2.9 PA/TG. However in the games he has played this season he is averaging just over 4.5  so I've made the calculations and it appears he will require 10 more games at 4.5/G to reach that 3.1 minimum.  Carry on.

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

^Bonzer, mate!

My hovercraft is full of eels

espn 2nd half rankings have them #5:

Cleveland Guardians

Record: 58-37 | Projected final record: 93-69

Division title odds: 58.9% | Playoff odds: 92.8% | Championship odds: 5.6%

How they got to the top: Much more power than expected -- with 109 home runs, they're already closing in on last season's total of 124 -- but mostly a bullpen that has been the best in the majors. It ranks first in ERA (2.62), first in win probability added (8.64), first in OPS allowed (.597), second in strikeout rate (26.7%) and second in saves (34). Closer Emmanuel Clase, after a rough 2023 when he blew 12 saves and lost nine games, is 4-1 with 29 saves and a 0.81 ERA -- and he recorded the save in Tuesday's All-Star Game as well. Clase, Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin and Cade Smith have combined for a 1.43 ERA and just four home runs allowed in 170 innings.

What to expect from here: If the bullpen can keep up this pace, it will go down as one of the best ever and the Guardians might be able to hold on to win the AL Central. They might need a little better starting pitching, however, as they rank 23rd in the majors in rotation ERA. They did recently get Gavin Williams back from injury, but Triston McKenzie and Logan Allen are back in Triple-A with ERAs over 5.00 and Shane Bieber was lost for the season back in April. Let's see if Cleveland makes a trade for a starter -- or even an outfielder to give the team a little more offense from someone besides Steven Kwan. -- Schoenfield

What, CLE worry? The Guardians lean into Stephen Vogt's calm vibe atop AL Central

I was at the game today. They were lame beyond belief and now that Arias has been sent down, Rocchio is the next guy that needs to reacquaint himself with C’bus. I’m not complaining though, they’re in a rough patch, but the season has been very good so far.

and the team with the best record in mlb is … yep 👍

best team in mlb, but you know its espn, so they just can’t — 😂

MLB Power Rankings Week 18: Who got most help from the deadline?

2. Cleveland Guardians

Record: 65-42
Previous ranking: 5

The Guardians acquired outfielder Lane Thomasand starting pitcher Alex Cobb, looking to shore up their two obvious weaknesses. Thomas had 67 extra-base hits last season and after a terrible April and a stint on the injured list, hit .282/.363/.470 in his final 55 games with the Nationals. He played right field in his Guardians debut and can play center in a pinch, but look for him to get most of his time in right. Cobb has yet to pitch in the majors this year after offseason hip surgery, shoulder irritation and then a blister problem last week that pushed back his first start. He had a 3.87 ERA in 2023 with the Giants. -- Schoenfield

The Guardo's two new starting pitchers, Cobb and Boyd, are doing great early on so far. But this guy may end up in the hall of fame if he keeps pitching like this....

best team in mlb again by the way ... yeah i know its the doldrums of summer but hey they swept the cubbies so yeah.

soto & juicy juicer celebrated a little too early last night. 😂

double dunked — this yo-yo team will never last in the playoffs. ugh.

another pounding loss and kc has caught up with them. worse, there is no end to the weak hitting and now pitching woes in sight.

And what happened to Kwan?  He fell off a cliff it seems.

Come from behind last night against Twins helps for sure.   What a rookie go for Manzardo.  Reminds me of my childhood with Super Joe Charbonneau!

as a teen one time we all were riding in to a game on lake road in a convertible with all our tribe gear and we saw joe at home on a riding mower out mowing his lawn, yes we knew where he lived, so we stopped and he rode up and talked to us for a bit. you know after his big rookie season he was injured a lot so he was staying home at the time. it was so rad! 😂

Congrats Guardians on clinching their 12th AL Central Division Title last night - the way this franchise is run should be an exemplar for our professional football team.

mlb playoff season is almost set — its guards vs tigers/astros wildcard winner.

as i understand it the nl wilcard depends on today’s mets/braves doubleheader. if they split both are in. if there is a sweep the winner is in and the diamondbacks are in. now that is tight!

Jose may have gotten rained out of a 40-40, albeit an overshadowed one.

espn playoff takes —

Cleveland Guardians

No. 2 seed | 92-69 | AL Central champs

ALDS opponent: Tigers (56.4% chance of advancing)

World Series odds: 13.3% | ESPN BET odds: +900

Predicted date of their last game: Oct. 21

If they win it all, the 2024 World Series MVP will be ... Can we just pick the entire bullpen? No? Four relievers have won a World Series MVP (Larry Sherry, Rollie Fingers, John Wetteland and Mariano Rivera) so don't rule out Emmanuel Clase. Indeed, while Jose Ramirez is the obvious choice, his game hasn't translated to the postseason, with just two home runs in 124 at-bats. Let's go with Clase; if Cleveland wins, it's probably because he gets four World Series saves. -- Schoenfield

If they go home soon, it will be because ... The starting rotation isn't good enough. Cleveland posted the best bullpen ERA in baseball by a substantial margin. Clase has been the best closer in the majors. Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis and Tim Herrin might be the sport's stoutest bridge to the ninth inning. The rotation is another matter. No. 1 starter Shane Bieber underwent Tommy John surgery after two starts. Triston McKenzie, two years removed from a breakout season, performed so poorly he was sent to Triple-A in June and hasn't returned to the majors. Without them, Tanner Bibee (3.47 ERA in 31 starts) emerged as the top starter for a rotation that finished tied for 23rd in ERA and 24th innings pitched. The Guardians will need to piece together the pitching to make a title run. But too much reliance on the bullpen might be unsustainable. -- Castillo

Ready for his October close-up: The Guardians acquired Lane Thomas before the trade deadline hoping he would fortify an offense in perpetual need of production. August was brutal, but Thomas showed what he's capable of amid a torrid month of September. He has been hitting mostly behind Josh Naylor, but also in front of Ramirez at times. His presence will be critical in October. The Guardians finished in the middle of the pack in OPS and runs per game this season. They need someone besides Ramirez, Naylor and Steven Kwan to produce consistently. They need the Lane Thomas who provided 28 home runs and a .783 OPS for last year's Washington Nationals. He might have tapped back into that. -- Gonzalez

Why you should root for them: 1948. That's when Lou Boudreau, Larry Doby, Satchel Paige, Bob Feller & Co. led Cleveland to the World Series. Good times. Harry Truman was president. Jack Kerouac was gallivanting around the country with Neal Cassady. Don Draper was still living as d**k Whitman, years away from landing on Madison Avenue. The franchise has not won it all since then, giving it the longest active title drought in baseball. This team, with an offense that has contact, athleticism and just enough power, and armed with the sport's best bullpen, is built to quench that thirst. To do so, the Guardians will have to topple some superstars -- Judge, Ohtani among the possibilities -- which would make it that much sweeter to watch. -- Doolittle

Let's F'ING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE F'ING WENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now 48 hours to relax.

well it didnt take long to show those espn worrywarts lane thomas is ‘ready for his october close-up’!  😂

Great performance today. Boys against men and stopped their momentum in its tracks.
Gonna be hard against Skubal on Monday, but he can be beaten.

That first inning was amazing! Five runs no outs. That’s the way to make a statement guardians. Let’s keep up the momentum.
