Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Bump.

Magic Number: 18

Hafner hits a two-run HR with two outs in the ninth to send it to extras. Tribe wins in the 11th on Hafner's sac fly. This is fun! Go Tribe.

Comeback after comeback....to paraphrase the Candyskins..."It's 1995 again....."

Though that '95 stuff can just GTFA once the World Series hits and the NFL season gets going...

Cleveland Indians' Kenny Lofton wants Jacobs Field packed again

Wednesday, September 05, 2007

Paul Hoynes - Plain Dealer Reporter

Minneapolis- Kenny Lofton wants to hear the roar again. The roar the way he remembers it.

He thinks it will help the Indians in their quest to reach the postseason for the first time since 2001...

The Reds are done...so GO INDIANS!!!

bryd vs escobar to-nite. wow what a match-up. this series w/ the angels will go a long way toward making true believers out of people if the tribe can win it.

Indian summer returns to Cleveland

GM Shapiro stayed the course after last year's 78-84 record, and team could be headed for its first playoff berth in six years.

Baseball teams deliver this pitch from coast to coast: Build us a new downtown ballpark, and revitalize your downtown! Sellout crowds! Restaurants, shops and clubs springing to life nearby!

In Cleveland, it actually worked that way...

Indians are not talking about the postseason - yet

5.5 games up! :-D

Magic Number: 7

AWESOME picture MrNYC.  Go Tribe!  1.5 GB of best record in baseball.

 I'm looking forward to baseball in Cleveland in October!

Go Tribe!  Another win over the Tigers tonight and the division crown seems inevitable.

^ you got it --- its a wrap!

American League Game Summary - Detroit at Cleveland

(Tuesday, September 18th)

Final Score: Cleveland 7, Detroit 4

Nice. The Jake was sold out tonight.

I can see Jacobs Field from my office window. I'd love to go to tomorrow's noon match up.

Hey guess what?  Mr. Cleveland aka me was there tonight and will be there tomorrow for the sweep..

Magic Number: 5

PS - It was great having Detroit fans trying to talk shit tonight when they won nothing last year.

SWEEP!!!!!

Magic #: 3.

Tied for the best record in baseball.

Sabathia back near the top of the list for the Cy Young (which should rightfully be his).

Boston Red Sox (9)

90 62 .592 -- 47-28 43-34 40-28 20-11 18-17 Lost 3 4-6

Cleveland Indians (3)

90 62 .592 -- 49-28 41-34 18-18 46-23 17-12 Won 3 8-2

Los Angeles Angels (3)

90 62 .592 -- 52-25 38-37 26-18 22-21 28-19 Won 3 6-4

AAAAAAHHHHHH! Best record in baseball!  Doesn't it feel great?  Would we rather play the Yankees in a 5 or 7 game series?  If the Indians end up with the best record, we could choose the 8 day series, and possibly pitch

Sabathia 3 times.  He didn't pitch against the Yankees in the 6 games we lost to them.  I think I'd rather face them first and get them out of the way!!

Now I am depressed again:  How about Urban Ohio Field?

Cleveland Indians in-game update

Pre-game stuff: The Indians have hired IMG to help them sell the naming rights for Jacobs Field. When the park opened, then-owner Richard Jacobs purchased the rights for 13 years. The term expired in 2006.

IMG, based in Cleveland, is heavily involved in the sports and entertainment business.

Progressive Field!!

Would we rather play the Yankees in a 5 or 7 game series?

I would almost rather see Boston finish first and face NY and Cle face LA. The Indians have been less than stellar against NY & Boston this year.

Boston can't face NY if they win their division.

Oh thats right I forgot about that.

My hope: CLE ends up with the best record, Yanks win AL East and Bos gets the wild card.  Boston doesn't really seem so scary these days.

^ Agreed.

Anyone else going to the game friday night? How many tix are sold so far?

Is there anything sweeter than baseball in October?!

My hope: CLE ends up with the best record, Yanks win AL East and Bos gets the wild card.  Boston doesn't really seem so scary these days.

That was my point tho; it would mean playing the yankees in a 7 game series instead of 5.

^Yeah, I gotcha.  And a good question.  Not familiar enough with the schedule to see how many times we could go with Sabathia and Carmona in the second round.  The defenite benefit of yanks in the second round is the possibility that they choke on the Angels first and don't even get there.

Well, someone said it best, "Fear no one"!  We probably have to play them at some point, bring 'em on!

ESPN is killing me, all they talk about is the Yankees catching Boston.  Nothing about Cleveland destroying Minn and Detroit and pulling away.  They keep talking about how hot the yankees are, hottest team in baseball!  Indians and yankees are both 8-2 over their last 10; and technically the Yankees are hotter as they are one game better since August 1st:  31-15 to the Indians 30-16.  Clearly the Yankees have a better offense with the numbers for the entire season, but the Indians offense is hot, and they still have the better pitching!

Most of you guys are probably spoiled by the '90's, and I mean no offense by that.  But it has been a long time for me.  The 90's were nice, but it didn't get done.

- I cried the night they traded Rocky; I cheered when they brought him back (of course I cry now thinking we gave up Tommy John for him, but he probably saved baseball in Cleveland).

-I'll never forget the fake article in the Press that started:  "Dateline-New Orleans, the Indians opened in their new home today!"

-I was there when Gabe Paul went to new york and took most of the team with him!

-I sat in the bleachers for 50 cents at about 25 games the summer of 10cent beer night!  Was right there with John Adams and his drum.

-Saw Dick Bosman pitch a no hitter against the world champs that summer on a friday night in front of 25,000!  Thought I had gone to heaven

-went to the game apologizing to the world for the beer night!  80,000 people there against the yankees!

-Suffered through the Buddy Bell and Eckersley trades!

-Suffered through trying to listen to 3WE late at night to catch the games when I moved to Cincinnati.

-Went to the 5th game of the '75 series.  Big deal, the reds.

-When  the Indians became good, they moved stations and I couldnt get them in cinci

- I still think the Jake opened 1-2 years too soon.  I loved the Stadium, I can close my eyes and get the feeling when you walked up the upper deck ramps and saw that green grass.  With that team in 95, they would have had 60,000 a night.  What a party that would have been!

-my 15 year old daughter was sitting with me reading the paper during game 7 in '97 and she was crinkling the paper!  I had to ask her to leave the room!  She still thinks I'm nuts!  But of course, she's a Reds fan!

YES, I loved 95 and 97, but I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!

-

what? dont you love hearing about posada's hangnail for 15minutes of every 1 hour sportscenter? and then they got to talk about boston slumping and get torre's reactions on what that means for the yankees too. lol! yeah i always say espn is a glorified local sports station thats why. screw it.

its no consolation, but the angels dont get much press either.

Wait.. Posada has a hangnail?!

Haha

Ok, here's my dream playoff scenario:

Beat New York in 1st rd

Beat Boston in ALCS

Beat New York (NL) in WS

Seriously, could it be any better than that?! Thank you, Jesus. I'm ready for heaven!

Thoughts?

I may not have been around for most of that but I am 28 and went to countless games in the 80's.  I remember how they were before the 90's.  I was at the longest game they ever played (I think it was in 93 and we lost), the last 3 games at the old stadium (where we got swept by the ChiSox) and numerous opening days (sometimes with an obstructed view from that old stadium).  I remember 87 with Joe Carter and Cory Snyder on the cover of SI and how good the Indians were supposed to be that year (I think we lost 100 games).  It has been fantastic to see the emergence of the tribe in the 90's and let's hope they can help us long suffering fans out with a WS win.

As far as matchups.  I hope we can get Boston in the first round.  they are not playing good ball right now and are definitely the most vulnerable.  LA and NY are both playing very well.  Let them beat each other up in the first round.

I like NY in a 5 game series with Sabathia, Carmona and Byrd

Boston in a 7 game series

Then home field advantage for the World Series, something we did not have in '95 or '97

Have this weekend's games sold out?

Along those lines, WTF was up with ESPN and others mentioning Wang as a Cy Young candidate?  Gimme an f'ing break- the guy would be the #3 starter for the Indians.  I'd bet Sabathia has a better ERA in his no decisions than Wang has in his victories.

- I still think the Jake opened 1-2 years too soon.  I loved the Stadium, I can close my eyes and get the feeling when you walked up the upper deck ramps and saw that green grass.  With that team in 95, they would have had 60,000 a night.  What a party that would have been!

Yeah, I've thought about this too.  Even when the team stunk, one of the highlights of the summer for me was Marathon's fill up the stadium night when they literally gave tickets away with a tank of gas.  There was nothing quite like seeing 70k fans at a baseball game.

As far as the Cy Young goes, I believe Carmona is actually the front-runner coming from the Tribe.

^Yeah, that's a tough one.  Carmona does have as many QS as CC and that great ERA.  But CC's got all those innings pitched and that great WHIP and SO/BB ratio.  How happy are we to be discussing which of our deserving starters should win the Cy Young?

Can't wait to see what Carmona does tonight!

sort of on/off topic!

Bought the MLB.com package after the all-star game for 29.95.  Good deal!  Anyway, spending all of the summer and well into the next year working in Canada.  The hotel has wireless, but the package ends every day and it takes 30 minutes to restart.  It seems to happen every 24 hours from the time you sign on for the 1st time each visit!

My problem is it is kicking me off at about the 7th-8th inning of each game!  The hotel is clueless, I tried to clean up my temp int files and deleted all the cookies, to no avail.  Can anyone help?

I would hate to miss parts of playoff games!

Try using an ethernet cable instead, it will be faster and more reliable.
