October 8, 200717 yr I just hate the fact that Byrd has a "special catcher" and that means Garko's bat is out of the lineup because Victor has to move to first tonight.. Garko is killing the ball.

October 9, 200717 yr GAWD, I'M SO EFFING JEALOUS!!! It's been since 19freakin99 for the REDS!!! ... You know I was thinking, the midwest dominates in sports pretty much (well highly-viewed sports), especially MLB. What a boring match-up for the NL. The Rockies, the Diamondbacks ... wtf???
October 9, 200717 yr Alright Tribe, Borowski still scares the living piss outta me, but a win is a win. Gotta get another good outing from Byrd or one from Westbrook in addition to CC & Carmona.
October 9, 200717 yr TRIBE SLAYS THE MIGHTY YANKS!!!! WHAT A GREAT RIDE. NOW LET'S WHIP THE RED SUX... ... btw, Turner Classic Movie's primetime flick tonight? ... you guessed it, Gary Cooper's "Pride of the Yankees." ... natch.
October 9, 200717 yr thanks for pointing that out clvlndr. Im sure we'll get more flack for that. NEO/Western PA has not be kind to the TBS broadcast - for good reason.
October 9, 200717 yr Indians 6, Yankees 4 NEW YORK (AP) -- Joe Borowski threw the final strike and the Cleveland Indians ran onto the infield to start the celebration. Alex Rodriguez, one leg on the top step of the New York Yankees dugout, the other a step below, stared straight ahead. The Indians were on their way to an AL Championship Series matchup with the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees were braced for a showdown with their boss, one that could cost Joe Torre his job... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=271008110&action=playvideo&hcmp=motion

October 9, 200717 yr With all the talk of players possibly leaving the yankees & torre's job in limbo, Cleveland may be responsible for the dismantling of the current yankees team. Way to go Cleveland!! :) Sorry George!
October 9, 200717 yr Vernon Stouffer should have let George buy the Indians when he wanted too! We could have benefited from his money all these years! Dismantling the Yankees is only fair since they dismantled us in the 70's! Chambliss, Nettles, et al.

October 10, 200717 yr George Steinbrenner still has a lot of relatives in Cleveland. I know that his mother still lived here in the 90s (across the street from my then-girlfriend). Just got some tickets for game 5.
October 10, 200717 yr The problem is that George Steinbrenner & Charles Dolan being from Cleveland, Each would say they ran the other out of new york if one of them left. Anyone in new york remember their quarrel over the yes network?
October 10, 200717 yr Joe Torre is married to my dad's neighbor's sister. He's in Cincinnati a lot for family events.
October 10, 200717 yr So many articles across the nation on this match up--but I love the east coast ones. Here's one from Hartford, CT: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Red Sox Look Ahead To Cleveland By JEFF GOLDBERG | The Hartford Courant 10:33 PM EDT, October 9, 2007 BOSTON - David Ortiz was walking out of a movie theater Monday night, having taken his kids to see "The Game Plan," when he got a real-time update on the Yankees-Indians game. "I'm walking out of the movie, and this lady is screaming at me, 'Hey, Cleveland is whipping the Yankees ...,'" Ortiz said. "I'm like, oh, ok. When I got to my house, it was 6-1. It was on, man."... October 10, 200717 yr Here's another good article, but it's too long to post. link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=3055246 EXERPT: If that's only half a dream matchup from a marketing or TV executive's point of view, it's because those folks typically don't reside in Cleveland. "I'm sure the networks wanted Red Sox and Yankees,'' said Indians outfielder Trot Nixon. "You've got two marquee teams, so many big names and big payrolls. But if you're a baseball fan, this is what it's all about. The game is decided on the field, not by all that other stuff.'' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And one more from the NY Times about Cleveland's unworldly luck this season. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/10/sports/baseball/10chapman.html?ref=sports
October 10, 200717 yr I think the Turner Network TNT/TBS/whatever did a great job broadcasting the Yankees' series. Like most national sports networks, they did not know enough about our team and talked more about the big-bucks Yankees. However, I would not say they were cheering for the Yankees. I see that Fox has picked up the next series. I rather hate everything Fox on account of them having created the republican media network that they call Fox News. Their people say some heinous things. I never liked listening to Fox Sports cover baseball because Joe Buck does not bother to read up on our team and he does not to add much to the broadcast. He also has a cartoon voice. I definitely prefer that nasally "Great Lakes" accent like Tom Hamilton, Joe Tate, or ... the best ... Jim Donovan who calls the Browns games on the radio network. I will be tuning in the radio on Friday night. Go Tribe!
October 10, 200717 yr Here's another article from Boston. Also, anyone catch the commercial on Fox for the Series? They refer to them as the "Cinderella Indians"! October 10, 200717 yr LeBron on the Indians bandwagon? Posted by cleveland.com staff October 10, 2007 08:57AM If you were worried Cleveland fans would boo LeBron James out of town for wearing a Yankees cap at the Indians game last week, you can rest easy. ... So, is all forgiven now or is LeBron being insincere and just trying to do a little damage control? http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/10/lebron_on_the_indians_bandwago.html
October 11, 200717 yr The fact the the Terminal Tower is lighted red fires me up. Ain't that the truth - my partner chuckled as we were driving home last night. Some idiot was playing "pace car" on the Innerbelt so I went into my usual profanity-laced tirade and then as soon as I looked over and saw Terminal Tower, I did a 180 and said "ooooooo... preeeety!". :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

October 11, 200717 yr Baseball's First Indian Song of Sockalexis by Siu Wai Stroshane Man of the forest, island son Fleet-footed runner with arm like a gun, Holy Cross man for two magical seasons Played your heart out, best in the nation. You went to the majors where Cleveland played rough Handsome and mild, you knew when to be tough. Throws to the plate, sizzling line drives, Baseball's First Indian, you brought crowds alive. But the high life dazzled you, too many rounds Wrecked your sharp eye and brought you down. Your career unraveled, your bright star fell Deep into alcohol's hazy hell. So you fled home to your people's embrace. Purified your soul in that wide river place. Taught all you knew to the tribal boys Far from the bright lights, the crowds and the noise. Penobscot pioneer, you've played your final inning But your life meant more than losing or winning. And standing here now at your quiet grave I give thanks for the gifts you gave. Baseball's First Indian, from the People of the Dawn Though you played long ago, your memory lives on.
