Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Christopher Evans and Amanda Garrett - Plain Dealer Reporters

Alma Clark knows how to make an entrance.

The 96-year-old resident of the Eliza Jennings Home on Detroit Avenue in Cleveland pushed her blue walker down the hallway to the dining room.

The front of the walker was decorated with a huge white felt baseball sporting the mug of Chief Wahoo.

An Indians cheerleader doll and one of those plush dolls with the head of a baseball and the body of a player grin from their perch on the walker.

Clark herself was a vision of Indians finery: hat, shirt, necklaces of red and blue beads that look like little baseballs...

^ In the neighborhood where I work, there was a 102 year old woman who'd sit out on her porch with her dog and listen to every Indians game.  Her family told me that she's rarely missed a game since they've been on the radio.  It's an interesting tie-in of community development and baseball.

But wow, what a game last night!

Indians fever was alive in the flats. from Hopples showing it on the  "big screen" outdoors-it was  illuminated on the red line bridge piling, to the velvet tango room which had it decretely playing in black and white in the corner...the DUI check point in front of the harbor inn was not a pretty site for many fans though.

I didn't know if this should have went under "Marketing the City." or what...but this is in today's Boston Herald.  At first I thought it would be a positive article, but it pretty much flat out bashes Cleveland itself.  My guess is Boston's will be pleasantly surprised if they do infact come in with such low expectations..

A rubber-necking good time on Indians’ turf

Cleveland will really rock starting today when the American League Championship Series moves to Indians territory - and bounces up against a citywide Rubber Expo!

Seriously.

Some 10,000 rubber industry peeps won’t be treading lightly at the Cleveland Convention Center over the next few days. And at night, the downtown area is expected to be downright frightening with the turnout at The Q for the all-new AHL Lake Erie Monsters hockey games...

BTW, when we asked the Plain Dealer’s Mike McIntyre where The Cleve’s celebs hang out and dine, he responded: “The athletes stay home. We have no celebrities. McDonald’s.”

Thanks, Mike. It’s gonna be a long week . .

I think Jake has alot to prove tonight.  The pitching matchup really should not intimidate him.  He needs to concentrate on his fastball low in the zone which plays havoc with Boston hitters.  He may not have a quick fastball, nor does it have movement, but next to Byrd, his delivery is misleading.  I think we're going to see alot of Boston hitters watching pitch one and maybe two to knock Jake out of the game early.  However, I see Jake getting ahead in the count tonight.  If not, I say pitch Byrd in the third inning and bring CC back on short rest for game 4.

F*ck Mike McIntyre!  What's with Cleveland journalists providing bash quotes to other cities' newspapers lately?

Are the surface lots near W 3rd and Public Square a good place to park?  I am carpooling and driving and I have tickets to Tuesday night's late game!

^I often tell people to park in the BP building (200 Public Square) garage.  It's $5 and it's a nice walk down E. 4th to the stadium.  The price may be higher now because its the playoffs, but it's still a pretty convenient spot.

Great advice, thank you!  I can get on the Shoreway east through W3rd street or over to E9th, which is now named "Rock and Roll Boulevard" according to google maps.

Those aerial shots of "The Jake" look absolutely stunning!!

Even more so compared to that green clapboard shanty in boston.

Yeesh, 11 innings but they finally decided to kick @ss and take names!

wait, how did we let this go?

MayDay? talking sports?

Man, that shit is really frustrating. WTF would he say that for?

"CLEVELAND ROCKS!!"

^^Yes it does, and so do the Indians, Go tribe!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a game!  Westbrook walking unscathed with no outs and the bases loaded was priceless!

Cleveland looked BEAUTIFUL on national television tonight.

Cleveland Rocks

Some thoughts while idling in Cleveland at the American League Championship series.  Cleveland used to be the brunt of endless jokes, but when it comes to sports facilities it is unquestionably "Major League." Jacobs Field opened more than a decade ago and is still in pristine condition.  Chew on this Sox fans - ticket prices.  The most expensive seat in "the Jake" is $42, and you can get a reserved seat in the outfield for $7.  How about a box seat for $26?

Beyond left field is the Quicken Loans Arena, home of LeBron James and the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers.  A few blocks away, within walking distance, is Cleveland Browns Stadium, and Sunday it hosted 73,000 folks who watched the Browns handle the Dolphins, and then the city handled all the traffic without any hassles.  So here we are in another city that found a way to build three world-class facilities in a five-year span, all within walking distance of downtown, all easily accessible from major highways and public transportation. What a novel idea!

Roker sees stormy Sox forecast

By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa

The Boston Herald's Inside Track

CLEVELAND - The Cleve’s beloved former weatherman Al Roker isn’t predicting sunny skies for the Red Sox [team stats] in the American League Championship series, where he threw out the first pitch last night at Jacobs Field...

Was Drew at the games?

^No; he couldn't find a place to land his helicopter.

The Indians & the city looked great! I liked the first shot from the west bank with the Terminal Tower in red and the "I" on 200 PS.

Ortiz started running from second base.  He got hit in the nuts with the ball and was out.  That's what I call a "mean hop".

That was so cool, I hope someone can find/post some good pictures of it.

the pun on the front page of the plain dealer hurt. a lot.

^Oh, please share the punishment for us out of towners

BTW, that opening beauty shot of the Indians "I"  on the BP building (200 PS) with the blue lights on the bridge and the red lights on the terminal, it was tribetastic!

I got so excited I had to fly into CLE today and stub hub me some tickets.

I love it!

I'm going on Thursday. Can't wait.

Indians within one victory of going back to World Series

Indians 7, Red Sox 3

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Hang tight, Colorado Rockies. There's another team roaring through October.

And you just might see them in the World Series.

The Cleveland Indians, relying on a throwback pitcher who looks as if he stepped out of their 1948 team photo, moved one win from another crack at winning an elusive championship...

manny still hasn't finished rounding the bases.

^ that guy annoys the hell out of me.

manny still hasn't finished rounding the bases.

the post game show called him out for that. You're behind big in a big game, don't trot around like an ass.

I love it!  I'm going on Thursday. Can't wait.

You'll have a good time, but promise me something--you're going to whoop it up good!  The crowd was pumped at the beginning last night: the first three outs in inning one had the crowd up and cheering.  But by the time the fourth inning came around, I think the late hours and the 22 ounce beers were getting to the crowd.  Kind of tepid.

Hey, I was clapping every time Byrd stepped on the rubber!  I knew he could hear me from 400 feet away.   The rest of the crowd caught my mojo and by the eighth inning--putting down Ortiz and Ramirez--things were hopping.

As for Thursday... Sox pitcher Josh Beckett is good.  Really, really good.  I admit I liked watching him on the tube for game one.  It's gonna be a toughie.  Our offense was not hitting in the first half of last night's game.  I hope the coaches have been viewing the Beckett tapes and figure out some angle on him.  Go Tribe!!

If the Tribe makes it to the World Series, the phones of all the PD's writers should be equipped with a feature that automatically transfers all out-of-town calls to the Convention Visitors Bureau (er, Positively Cleveland puke.gif) for them to answer. I swear, the continuing actions of the PD's writers prove they couldn't be worse ambassadors for this city if they had dumped oil in the river and set it on fire.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

^^ Methinks Mr. Manny is still bitter the Tribe didn't pay him which is why he bolted to the BoSox, so every chance he can, he publicly sticks it to us.  Problem is, he looked really stupid b/c his team was still trailing 4 after his big turn at bat (and, of course, went on to lose and now trail 3-1).  I can't imagine Sox fans are to thrilled w/ such a Me-Before-Team display in a losing cause.  No doubt about it, Manny's a great player; perhaps the best pure hitter in MLB, but it's little things like that, that damages his rep.

I think a lot of Indians fans owe Casey an apology.  Many ragged on the guy -- booed him in fact a few years back, when he didn't always hit in key situations (despite the fact, even then got key hits and HRs).  On Cleveland.com he was dubbed on of the 3 "Killer B's" along with Boone and Broussard.  Casey got yanked from position to position w/o complaint and always acquitted himself well defensively (where would we be if Blake hadn't kept that bases-loaded Game 4 Yankees blast in the infield?).  This year, as seen last night, he's gotten CRITICAL hits and has anchored the bottom of the order -- along with Kenny -- so well there's no place for an opposing pitcher to hide. Shapiro/Wedge had to scramble to cobble a left infield when it was realized projected 3b/ss Andy Marte couldn't break out of the minors... So I'm glad for the team and the fans the Indians kept the right "B" and I hope, now, the fans realize how much we have in this man...
