^The guy hit .190 with RISP this year.  I think he's a great guy, has had some big hits, and would be a fantastic bench player, but he is definitely a choke artist.

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

^ thank you. the mighty casey. but lets just revel that the tribe is working together so well as a team and disruptive people like "raggedy manny" are gone.

today i was thinking about all the looks of the red sox players and coaches faces during the games. they are clueless and second guessing themselves. otoh the tribesters are serious yet relaxed and all business. you can see it! let's end this thing thursday and move on.

Cleveland Indians look for championship to give city winning edge

CLEVELAND - In a city desperate for a champion, in a state where finishing as the runner-up has become all too common, the Cleveland Indians are giving hope again that maybe this year will be different.

Don't look now, but even LeBron James has switched from a New York Yankees cap to one with Chief Wahoo on it....

A boss will tolerate a lot when the Indians are in the playoffs.

People standing around the water cooler talking Tribe.

^^^As for Manny's contract, IIRC the Indians actually offered him more real money than the Sox, but a lot of it was deferred.  The problem was since the Indians contract offer was structured so oddly that Manny's agent would have not made as much as the Boston offer because of the more up front money.

Anyone know if there were a lot of Boston fans who stayed in Cleveland yesterday.  I wonder what they did (besides the Rock Hall).  The day off could be a marketing coup for *ahem* Positively Cleveland

"If it doesn't happen, who cares?" - Manny Ramirez

CLEVELAND – If this American League championship series becomes too much to bear for the Boston Red Sox, if this deficit is too large and these Cleveland Indians too polished for their weary baseball psyches, it won't be Manny Ramirez's head that fails them.

Really, I've hardly seen any Red Sox Fans.

Usually I see more fans for regular season games descending upon town (more tigers, yanks & white sox)

Do they expect the game to be played? (due to the weather)

According to weather.com, we should have no problem getting the game in. The rain is supposed to be around for another hour and then we should have partly cloudy skies for the rest of the day. (it does appear that today's rain has moved on out).

I definitely saw som Sox fans at the game Tuesday (they started making themselved known during the back-to-back-to-back time out from Tribe domination).  And after the game, I chatted with a group from Boston outside a bar at Playhouse Square who said nice things about the Tribe.  I didn't ask them about their stay in the city though.  The horrible karaoke coming out the bar was certainly not making a good impression.

I haven't seen as many Boston people hanging around as I would have thought.  The fact that there is a big convention Downtown may have pushed them to the suburbs, and thus commuting in and out as opposed to staying Downtown and hanging out while the games aren't going on.  The conventioneers would have had their hotel rooms reserved well beforehand, afterall.  Just a guess, though.

Doesn't Wonderbar have its roots in Boston?

The owners are from there.

The owners are from there.

the place must burn!

Ramirez tried to score from second and didn't even slide in to home.  Ramirez couldn't catch a ball hit to left field because he didn't get there in time, then he ran into his teammate.

now dont go trying to import your firebug detroit ways to the cleve!

Doesn't Wonderbar have its roots in Boston?

I played an impromptu gig at a place called Wonderbar in Boston in 1997. Probably the same place? Either way, great joint.

Tribe killers tonight:

- (continued) terrible hitting by Pronk; double play with 2 on, 1 out was a killer.  If your DH can't get the ball out of the infield (and not do better than 0-for-12 and 6 SOs in 2 nights, you're going to struggle.  Travis was on something of a roll after struggling much of the season; but now, he seems like he's back in his funk again; and at the worst possible time...

- 2 horrible Wedge moves:

  1) bringing CC back in the 7th for no reason after 106 pitches and facing the top of Boston's order when, all year, our bullpen has been a rock.

  2) not ordering the bat out of struggling Gutierrez hands on a 2-0 pitch (he swung at ball 3) and 3-1 (he swung, popped up ball 4 which would have given us men at 1s & 2nd w/ 1 out instead of a man a 1st w/ 2 outs).

Eric's been great down the stretch but he went into total Wedgie brainlock in, unfortunately, a critical closeout game against a team well heeled in making comebacks.  Frankly, I'm concerned.  We let this powerhouse team up off the mat and not they're back in Fenway for 2.  Becket was awesome, one can't overlook that.  But we had our chances -- you'll only have 1 or 2 against a pitcher of his caliber.  We squandered those opportunities, though.  And now, we've got to count on hitting Schilling, a man who's won World Series' in 2 diff leagues... We'll see...

I was affraid of this!  That day off screwed us.

I met the owner when I was in town. He moved back to Cleveland after living in Boston for about 20 years.

yeah, blame the day off, and nothing else.

I have gone through all the stages of grief for game 5 and now I am getting fired up for game 6!

Anyone think CC lost a couple votes in the Cy Young voting because of his last two performances?  Do the voters consider post-season performance in their consideration?

Ummm have you seen CC pitch.. have you seen Beckett pitch..

If you think CC is the Cy Young, you are the biggest homer ever.

^I'm pretty sure that the Cy Young (and MVP, Rookie of the Year, etc.) voting is based on the regular season only.

KS, sometimes you have very arrogant answers to questions.

I never indicated that CC would be the Cy Young winner, but he's definitely worthy of being in the running.  If his last couple of performances counted towards his voting, he would definitely lose a couple of steps.  Beckett looks stellar in comparison.

Their numbers are similar, CC pitched around 40 more innings, Beckett had 1 more win..

Obviously there is no clear cut winner, so it has to come down to post season performances.

Last Monday, when I was watching the game on tv, the announcer said something like, "It's a good thing the Cy Young votes have already been cast."  I was confused by that, because I didn't understand why they wouldn't have announced the results yet.  Regardless, I've heard multiple times that it is only based on season performances.

It supposed to be,  but the people voting are watching the same games that we are.

In a perfect world it's based upon the regular season only, but we all know that the post season comes into play.

hell, just making the playoffs usually is a big factor. (not that I can predict alternate scenarios, but If Magglio would have made the playoffs, he probably would have received more votes for MVP)

I too was under the impression that votes are cast right after the reg season ends but results are not announced until later (maybe to keep baseball in the papers after the post season?).  If so, to state the obvious, Beckett's post season heroics will have zero effect on the Cy Young voting, perfect world or not.

^I believe you're right.  I spent a few minutes trying to validate it but unfortunately couldn't find anything definitive on BBWA website or even Wikipedia.

loading the bases w/ no outs and then giving up a grand salami is no way to start off a ballgame. ugh.

We're done.  I'm sorry to be a non believer, but we look really bad.  We're not playing like champions.

We had the Sox right where we wanted but... But our aces are frauds; our DH, clueless all year.  Bad managing and poor fielding by our "superstar" center fielder in the pivotal game 5.  And it all adds up the latest edition the the Great Cleveland Choke.  So what else is new?

People are all Indians crazy, then this game and the critics come out.  They didn't win 96 games by luck man.  I'm not happy about their play, but damn.

It's the difference between a true Indians fan & someone who jumps on the band wagon to enjoy the ride!!

GO TRIBE!!

Seriously, guys, buck up.  I don't want it to be for nothing the way you handed the Tigers their ass those last three go-arounds.

^^ :-)... Indians...  :-(

I've emotionally left this team. I've been getting stoked for this team all year, but I've lived through four decades of bad endings. When you see what's happened the last two games, my response has become conditioned...

When someone taps your knee -- you kick. When the sun shines brightly in your eyes -- you squint. And when your home team starts to choke -- you turn your back and walk away.

reading this thread i think that Cleveland is full of some of the most bandwaggon fans in the world.

No .. KIDDING. I mean, come on! What is wrong with this team?? I mean, is it some weird fear that Cleveland teams get when they're doing well that they're suddenly going to choke? This happens EVERY time! I mean, honestly, if Cleveland doesn't win this last game, I will never fucking support the Indians again. Bandwagon or no, I'm sick and tired of supporting a team for YEARS (even in a city that is full of Yankee pride, mind you!) that has done nothing but disappoint me every time.

Need I remind you that the Indians were up 3-1?? 3-1, people! They had one more game to go, and now they're in danger of losing the whole thing! What the fuck!!!

I'm sorry. I'm tired and frustrated.

Okay. Now that I've had time to read my post, I apologize for the fiery words I used. Heh.

Thats what the "modify" function is for.  HINT HINT!

Haha. I know. I decided to keep it. :)
