October 22, 200717 yr ^Damn straight. I wore my Tigers hat with as much pride when they were on the top of the world going into the All-Star break as I did when they were eating Cleveland's wake 8 games back at the end of September. The point is showing pride for your hometown first, its particular sports team's millionaire athletes last.
October 23, 200717 yr Playoffs a hit for city finances Posted by Susan Vinella October 22, 2007 21:00PM Categories: Top Story Joshua Gunter - The Plain Dealer Cleveland has a million-and-a-half reasons to thank the Indians for their playoff run. The city expects to receive about $1.5 million in admission taxes and parking fees from the Tribe's five sold-out, post-season games at Jacobs Field, Cleveland finance director Sharon Dumas said Monday... October 23, 200717 yr The series changed when Manny hit the homerun and stood at the plate in game 4. They should have plunked him the 1st at bat in game 5 to let him know his antics aren't appreciated. Everyone was saying not to because you wouldn't want to make the Red Sox mad. Then he hits that long single and stands there admiring it. They were laughing at the Indians.
October 23, 200717 yr The Indians lost the series because their big bats were silent except for Victor, and a bit of Garko. My 6 year old cousin could hit better then Hafner this series, and Sizemore looked like a pony league player. Also, our "aces" didn't help us much, especially CC. They won some of these games with smoke and mirrors, guys like Lofton hitting homeruns is just something you cannot depend on to win a series. They MUST address the closer situation this offseason, along with getting an outfield power bat to go with Sizemore and Gutiérrez. Lofton, Byrd, & Borowski are the major free agents they have, with others like Nixon and Aaron Fultz not nearly as important. Bobby Abreu anyone?
October 23, 200717 yr Imagine my shock when I learned that Hafner was a designated hitter. I mean, it's one thing to be designated but isn't there HITTING involved as well? Ah well, like peabody said... :| clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 23, 200717 yr So, how do you explain to young baseball fans when it is appropriate to throw a pitch at a batter's head? This is supposed to be a genteel game with a high standard of sportsmanship. "I'm going to bean that Pugsley kid--cuz he's a boogerhead!"
October 23, 200717 yr So, how do you explain to young baseball fans when it is appropriate to throw a pitch at a batter's head? This is supposed to be a genteel game with a high standard of sportsmanship. It's never appropriate to throw at a batter's head.. EVER.. anyone who has played baseball at even a HS level knows that. The reason why a guy like Pedro Martinez would do so is because he played in the AL and knew they couldn't throw at him.
October 23, 200717 yr Has anyone on this board ever been hit by a fastball? If so, you wouldn't be saying pitchers should be "plunking" batters. I've been hit by pitches & line drives & it doesn't feel good at all. Can't Imagine being hit by 96+ MPH!!
October 24, 200717 yr So, how do you explain to young baseball fans when it is appropriate to throw a pitch at a batter's head? October 24, 200717 yr what idiots. Less home games in March/April more in July/August. Have we not learned anything or is this a ploy for us to complain about placing a dome on the Jake?

We Clevelanders have historical memory our own Ray Chapman who, in 1920, was the only MLB player ever killed in the course of a game; by a Carl Mays "submarine" beanball at the Yankees' Polo Grounds ... The result? MLB was on its way to batting helmets; as for the grieving Indians?... their 1st World Series trophy.

November 6, 200717 yr GMs vote 25-5 to use replay to aid home run decisions ESPN.com news services Updated: November 6, 2007, 5:18 PM ET ORLANDO, Fla. -- Baseball could have a new position next year: replay judge. General managers recommended for the first time Tuesday that instant replay be used to help umpires make difficult decisions. The proposal, approved by a 25-5 vote, was limited to boundary calls -- whether potential home runs are fair or foul, whether balls go over fences or hit the tops and bounce back, and whether fans interfere with possible homers... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3096923
November 7, 200717 yr Replay sounds expensive. They should pay for it out of the Red Sox and the Yankees' budget. The Yankees have a boatload of cable tv revenue, it sounds like a natural accomodation.
November 7, 200717 yr So if Byrd is going to be back (assuming no long suspension), are we looking at the same starting five next year? What does this mean for Cliff Lee and Sowers? I can't imagine Cliff has much trade potential after last year, what are we going to do with 7 starters, with an 8th (a healthy Adam Miller) on the way?

November 8, 200717 yr Cleveland Indians preparing contract for C.C. The first people to see the contract won't be Sabathia and his agents, they'll be Indians owner Larry Dolan and his son, Paul, the team president... "If I win, I'm smart," Dolan said. November 8, 200717 yr trade lee and marte, along with maybe a crowe for jason bay. he is good friends with sizemore and would like to play in cleveland. huntington (pitt GM) former indians assistant GM, would do it... Yeah because the trade value for lee and marte are truly worth what jason bay does and is capable of (especially in a current lineup with literally zero protection) So essentially you're suggesting that Huntington will "cheer" for his former team the tribe by trading away one of the better Outfields for two srubs?
November 8, 200717 yr Lee is 29 and has an 18 win season.. I'd hardly call him a scrub, just someone who had some injury problems last year.
November 8, 200717 yr Lee is 29 and has an 18 win season.. I'd hardly call him a scrub, just someone who had some injury problems last year. from my perspective looking at the whole exhibit, his numbers over his career aren't worth Jason Bay type caliber player. Also he's 29, he should be in his prime. I'd hold onto him, give him one more year and he's relatively cheap (but expensive to keep in the minors).
