As for Dontrelle, is he gonna be the 2005 version or the 2007 version? I don't worry so much about the latter.

December 5, 200717 yr ^No, I'm not. Is it Hafner or Borowski you like? What can they offer the team that Inge can't. It's obvious, the Tribe front offices also had issues with Borowski last season based on our pick up last week. And Hafner, C'mon, he has to hit at least .275 with 30 HR's to be a DH. I really think that since he got hit 2 years ago, he has been shell shock. He really does not look comfortable up there. And Inge, much better glove than Peralta. In order to win the series, our middle infield needs to be strong with their gloves. I have yet to be sold on Cabrerra , but I think he may do well.
December 5, 200717 yr I'm no Borowski fan club president, however he does get the job done, the guy had 40+ saves. And you'd rather have Peralta over Hafner as our DH? I guess the fact that he's never had over 100 rbi's in a season, or more than 24 HR in a season makes him fit for that role? The sole job of the DH is to hit, something that Peralta is suspect at doing, at best. You say Hafner hasn't been right since he was hit two years ago.. he had 42 HR in 2006!! In a horrible season he still had 100 rbi's last year. I'm in favor of getting rid of Peralta and moving Cabrera to short, and giving Barfield a shot at second again. Barfield plays solid defense, has speed, and given time will adjust to the AL which he never did last year.

Peralta had a good year last year, I'm not trying to take that away from him. BUT he has proven that he does not concern himself with his weight or physical shape. If he can produce 2-3 consecutive years of good play, then I might change my opinion on him. And for GOD's sake, LOSS SOME WEIGHT, you're an MLB shortstop, not a hot dog contest champion.
December 5, 200717 yr I'm not a huge booster by any stretch, but Peralta is only 25- his bat could get even better and more consistent. As for Blake: if there are runners on base, I'd rather have Felix Fermin at the plate. Blake is a great guy and useful in the field, but he is a major liability as an everyday player. His GiDP in game 7 was terrible, but I would have cut him some slack had it not been completely on par for him all year. I think only Paul LoDuca was a bigger choke artist in all the majors last year.

Sounds like Haren would be locked up for 2010 too (the club option) if he performs. He had fantastic numbers last year (15Ws for a week offensive team; a 3.07 ERA) and has been pretty solid over the last 3- it's by no means certain Miller or Laffey will turn out anywhere near as good as this guy- though It's always tough to lose young talent.
December 11, 200717 yr look at it this way, Haren is only 27. Its not like you are trading for a Petite or Clemens in the twilights of their careers and giving up prospects. You are trading unproven prospects for a bona fide stud on the mound who theoretically is in the prime of his career (27-33)

December 11, 200717 yr Prospects are just that.. prospects, they haven't proven anything yet. Laffey pitched well, but he was a 5th starter.. I think Lee or Sowers could do just as well. Plus, if Sabathia doesn't resign they could trade him and still have a 1-2 punch with Haren and Carmona.

December 12, 200717 yr I guess there goes my theory on Inge. I really think they should have persued him. There is so much work that needs done, in my view, in the infield. Middle Infield wins Series, and him and Cabrerra would be that middle. There is still alot of shuffling that can be done. Who knows, Victor may soon be a everyday first baseman to save any knees he has left. We could never afford to lose his bat. As far as Shoppach goes, I wouldn't mind him catching daily and batting in the 9th spot just like catchers always used to do. Rule of thumb, don't take a catcher because he has a good bat, take him for his D and game calling. Victor can do that, but would you really want a guy batting .310 with 30 HR's blowing his knees out from catching.

"The Pro", "P-Field" just don't have a ring to them. All though marketing both venues with some sort of play on "P's and Q's" could be fun.
January 11, 200817 yr My letter to the editor of the PD: It was only a matter of time that yet another baseball park would cave in and take a corporate name, I am surprised Jacob's Field lasted this long. What interests me is, a company that felt it didn't need to bring its business into downtown, but rather set up shop in another typical suburban "business campus", now decides that it can use this great venue for marketing. Maybe if they would have built the Progressive Tower downtown like once planned, the beautiful scenes shown during game time would have included the tower in the skyline, marketing would have been acomplished...and the Jake might still be the Jake
