April 7, 201114 yr In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.
April 7, 201114 yr Nothing like sending the Sox back to Boston 0-6 for their opening day vs the Yanks. Whee! I win twice!
April 7, 201114 yr Nice way to start the season. "How's your wife and my kid?" Edit: Love this nugget from the game write up. "Carmona's ERA dropped from 30.00 to 9.00"
April 7, 201114 yr That was a great game to have on in the background while working at home. I wish we had more weekday afternoon games. A scoreless game going into the bottom of the eighth sure builds the pressure! That squeeze play was great. April 8, 201114 yr Interesting to note: Cleveland Cavs have the highest ratio of attendance per victory in the NBA. Cleveland Indians have the lowest ratio of attendance per victory in the MLB.
April 8, 201114 yr The ghost of George Steinbrenner is haunting the Red Sox I believe. Anywho, who's ready to see Seattle lose?
April 8, 201114 yr I want to see Carlos Carrasco have a quality start tonight. It's a pretty simple game. When the starters come out and pitch like they have the previous four outings good things happen. I have total confidence in our bullpen this yr.
April 9, 201114 yr We need to put up some crooked numbers early to give the youngster some confidence
April 9, 201114 yr I want to see Carlos Carrasco have a quality start tonight. It's a pretty simple game. When the starters come out and pitch like they have the previous four outings good things happen. I have total confidence in our bullpen this yr. You got your wish! Great game -- 5 wins in a row! Everyone got a hit tonight. Who are these guys?!?!?! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 9, 201114 yr I once hit nine HR's in a 12 game Little League season – extrapolated to a MLB season, that comes out to over 121 steroid-free homers. Go Tribe!
April 9, 201114 yr In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar. Love it!
April 10, 201114 yr Hmmm... The "absolutely nothing" we recieved for a 33 year old catcher looked down right filthy tonight.
April 10, 201114 yr Hmmm... The "absolutely nothing" we recieved for a 33 year old catcher looked down right filthy tonight. I was pretty happy when they got Masterson and I've always remained optimistic that he would develop into a quality 2nd/3rd type starter. Clay Bucholz was the other possibility in that trade and they weren't able to pry him away from Beantown, so the worse he does and the better Masterson does, the happier I'll be. At this point, I'm most worried about the haul of players they got from Philly for Lee. I really wish they'd traded him to New York and they got Hughes like some sources were saying as a possibility. I think this team has done pretty well with the big trades they've made in the past few years, but I think they could have done better. A rotation of headed by Carmona, Bucholz, and Hughes would truly make this team a contender right now. Oh well...
April 10, 201114 yr By the way, the Indians are on pace for 120 wins. When they hit that mark, it will be a new MLB single-season record for wins. ;)
April 10, 201114 yr ^I'd say there's a decent shot Masterson/Carasco end up being better than Buchholz/Hughes this year. Even before the season started, the NY baseball world was sweating Hughes's arm (he's lost a lot of velocity) and the Sabrmetrics folks predict a bit of a regression for Bucholz this year. Through two starts, both have been terrible this year. It's a long season though, so maybe both will get back on track. This winning is a ton of fun.
April 10, 201114 yr The team owes us big time and so far they are delivering! Forget the first two games, and our pitching has been the best in baseball
April 11, 201114 yr I think if we keep winning and the weather is decent we will see a pretty nice crowd downtown
April 11, 201114 yr Next home stand is this Friday, Saturday, Sunday vs the Baltimore O's! http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,22979.0.html (Shout out to my events page ;) )
April 11, 201114 yr It's nice sweeping these series because they of course provide a cushion. The recipe for making a playoff appearance is to win all the series against the "bad" teams and split or take the rubber game against the "good" teams. It's all about the series.
April 11, 201114 yr When things are going well I get so impatient waiting for the next game. Especially when it's a west coast game. I'm ready for more! Even if it is Mitch Talbot.
April 12, 201114 yr Keep it going Tribe! I can't remember the last time I was excited enough about the Indians to stay up for the end of a West Coast trip game on a weeknight.
April 12, 201114 yr Too much fun. Worth staying up late for. Love this. C'mon Fausto, keep it going tomorrow.
April 12, 201114 yr Outside of a few hitting issues with Choo and Santana, which are likely temporary (hell, Crawford, Youkilis, and Pujols are all hitting under 170; even Ichiro is only 250), I can't think of a single thing to complain or critique. And this Perez guy...he is coming THROUGH!
To me, that's what's encouraging. We're playing so well event with Choo and Santana not hitting the ball. And I'm hoping Grady is back in old form when he returns.
April 12, 201114 yr ^Grady had a another good night in Akron tonight, so hopefully won't be long. I totally agree with you- what's particularly exciting about this streak is that it's happened without Choo or Santana carrying the team. Hopefully those two will get hot when everyone else starts to cool. Unless Droobs really does plan on hitting a home run every game from here on out. Which would be fine by me.
April 12, 201114 yr Too much fun. Worth staying up late for. Love this. C'mon Fausto, keep it going tomorrow. Jam and Strap, yep, I'm having time staying awake today from being up late after the last few nights. I heard a guy on the MLB channel say the Indians were winning because of timely hitting, the defense wasn't making mistakes and their starting pitching was strong. OK, aren't those the characteristics of any winning team ? ? ? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 13, 201114 yr Go get them tonight Tribe, you still can take the series. I'll take that for a loss. If the what I believe is the 3rd youngest team in MLB ends a winning streak in a pitchers duel while playing sound defense and great pitching with a 4 hit/ 2 run game by Fausto, what can you complain about? The Angels Haren pitched out of his mind last night, hopefully the Tribe bats have better luck tonight.
April 13, 201114 yr It certainly wasn't an ugly, poorly played game. Their pitcher was better and their hitters capitalized on the few mistakes Carmona made. When I have to take losses, I'll take those kinds of losses. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
