Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Man, it is all about the rookies in this series.  Sure didn't take long for Kip to catch up with O-Cab's HR total.

Too bad they're all solo shots.  Can't wait til his RBI's catch up w/O-cab.

Even with his HRs all being solo shots (which are more an indication of how bad the rest of our offense has been as of late than anything), he's still on pace to have 30% more RBIs than O-Cab once he reaches 324 at bats.

When I said "too bad" it wasn't a knock on Kipnis.  I really wish there was someone on base when he hit them.  Get off my back mang....Don't expect Kipnis to keep up this pace however.

Hey dude, you got your numbers (RBIs), I got mine.  Anyway, bad form of me to provoke.  We can all agree on wanting the team to play well and win, so let's go tribe!

Yes, and that reason has nothing to do with Orlando Cabrera.  I honestly don't understand why you think he's such a great player.

Obviously a huge series against Texas (I guess they're all pretty big now!), but looking ahead, I think both Masterson and Ubaldo will start against Detroit in the following series, which should be pretty fun.

Split the series with the Sox good enough, although I am disappointed we should of had at least 3, if not all 4. Bats are hitting again. That's a good sign. Onward to Texas.

3 games back in the AL Central. 9 more games against the motor city kitties and 6 more against the ChiSox. Let's do this.

What if?

After texas the tribe is about to enter determine your own fate mode. Almost all our remaining games are against the central and a couple of crappy teams.

somehow I feel much better about this team with chisenhall and kipinis playing everyday (and shockingly even fukudome, though that is probably just a commentary on how crappy kearns/buck were/are). It will be interesting to see if they bring huff back up and send carcar down... huff has been pretty hot, might as well ride him till he's not.

Yeah, that will be huge, and they will be facing the Tigers' weakest two starters as well.  And it looks like the Tigers won't get to throw Verlander at the Tribe in that series, unless they want to bump Porcello (which they would have the option to do).  But Porcello is one of their better starters, so I'm not sure they'd want to do that to him and throw the whole rotation off.  It's probably way too early for any team to be playing games with their rotation to get their ace to face a pennant-contending rival.  If this were middle or late September, different story...

the red sox just did it against us so lester could face the yanks... so you never know.

True.  Honestly, if I were a manager and had a dominant ace who was head and shoulders above the rest of my starting pitchers, I'd probably re-set the rotation every opportunity I got.

in the mean time, we will be throwing Masterson Tomlin and Jimenez at them...this series at home should determine how the rest of the season will play out.

Argh, I just noticed that Texas is throwing out two LHP starters, tonight and tomorrow.  Not exactly our line-up's forte.  Shelley Duncan got called up (Hannahan on paternity leave) so we'll probably see a bit of him this weekend.

A rumor is flying tribe will go 6 starters masterson, Tomlin, Jimenez, carmona, huff, carasco

The way I see it, this year will take about 90 wins to win the division.  Including, and assuming a win tonite, currently up 7-2, they would need to go 35-18 the rest of the way. Just my opinion, but here is how they can reasonably get there:

Texas:3-3

Detroit: 7-5

Minn: 6-3

Chi: 7-4

Sea: 4-1

KC: 5-1

Oak: 3-1

good thing we assumed a win tonight...hell with it

Fuckin cperez

Fuck lemmes ay fuck cmion

That was...really bad.  By pretty much every part of the team.  One run in 9 innings of Rangers bullpen?  Three caught stealing/botched H&Rs?  11th inning defense?  Chris f'ing Perez?

Some of the better informed fans on the Indians chat boards have been arguing for months that the Tribe should have traded C. Perez earlier this year at the top of the market, because he's really not that good.  I hope they're wrong.  The last few weeks make them look a little right though.

The save is one of the most overrated stats in the sport, and most closers, except for a rare few, don't have extended periods of success beyond a few years.  Most fans don't understand this, and thus trading Perez in the heat of a pennant race would have caused a lot of ill-will.  That said, I think a good argument could have been made that doing so could have made the team better in the long-run.  Oh well...

you shouldnt be throwing fastballs to michael  young anyway.  that was so stupid. You get a guy n base, no big deal...but dont give a hitter like that a pitch he can drive!!

Well that was painful.  Could that 8th inning have been the end of the Indians season?

^ no, too many games left against Detroit.  We essentially control our own destiny.

I was just being pessimistic last night.

im angry too.  You can argue that we should have been 7-0 on that road trip.  IN my opinion we outplayed the red sox and rangers in every game.  This is the cost of having a young team.  The good news is, we can erase it all by continuing to play well against Detroit.

looks like our bullpen is burned out. I can't complain too much. It's August 8th. We're still in it. And we compete and have a chance to win almost every night. I think the term is "ahead of schedule", and I'm just going to try and enjoy the ride, even if we're seeing more bottom of the hills than climbs these days. The rest of the season is essentially the AL Central and the bottom feeders of the west, so this definitely isn't over.

Man was that excruciating.  The Twins getting swept by the White Sox didn't help our chances either.

And re. the bullpen: I don't think anyone expected Joe Smith to finish the year with such a low ERA, so regression was definitely on the way.  If these guys are wiped out though, might be nice to see some of the MLB-ready fresh arms from AAA up.  The off day today will sure help.

With Masterson and Jimenez going in games one and two against the Motor City Kitties, the Tribe has to win them both to put themselves in a position to sweep on Thursday when Carmona takes on Verlander.  Losing this series, at home, putting them five or seven games back, would be an absolute nail.

I texted my sister last night, saying: "If it wasn't for our bullpen, we might have gone 7-0 in the last 7 games"

I still believe that today. Two days ago I wanted Perez replaced by Smith. Now I don't know who we can count on out of the bullpen.

They were unlucky to not go 5-2 on that roadtrip.  The two close losses in Boston, in fairness, should have been split.  In Texas, the late losses on Friday night and Sunday night should have been wins, and the late win on Saturday night should have been a loss.  Oh well, shoulda, coulda, woulda...this team had a great trip and didn't come away with as many wins as they should have.  It's nice to feel good about how they're playing, but I hope that all of these losses don't come back to bite them in the behind.  For my sanity, if they lose the division, I hope it's by a sizable amount of games (3+), or else I'll be depressed all offseason at how they blew a great chance at the playoffs.

^Agreed- those Boston losses were disappointing, but not bang-you-head-against-the-wall frustrating.

Chicago won their 4th in a row today and are only 1 game behind the Tribe.  There is not going to be any margin error if the Tribe's going to stay in this.  I am awfully pumped for tomorrow.

Is anybody else still watching?

was asleep and got up...cant believe its still on...gotta get this win with Verlander on Thursday

Walk off HBP in the 14th!?!?  Whatever, I'll take it.

I worked really hard in those last few innings trying to prep myself for disappointment in case they lost.  As it is, I'm under rested, but at least happy :)

Let's hope Ubaldo sparkles in his home debut tonight.  Our poor bullpen could really use a high scoring laugher tonight.

I stopped watching when it went to extra innings.  I woke up later and looked to my phone to see the result, saw that it was bottom of the 14th with runners on first and third (I think) and I then turned my TV back on but I think I may have fallen back asleep before the TV warmed back up again.

Best case scenario last night is that not only did they win, but because of the rain delay the Tribe is able to re-shuffle the rotation and Masterson can pitch again on Friday against the Twinkies...

^That would be an awesome fluke.  As good as Huff has been, I'm not sure we can count on him to continue at anything close to that level.

KIPNIS!

Sorry, I should have been more specific.  Masterson WILL be starting on Friday.  Tomlin goes on Saturday, and Sunday is still up in the air, so expect Huff to get the call.

^Ah, got it.  Still an excellent turn of events, if it means we get an additional regular season start by Masterson, especially if it comes in the 4 game Detroit series that I think ends the regular season.

KIPNIS!

He is a beast.  Some scout was anonomously quoted in July as saying that the Kipnis promotion effectively was a trade for a big bat (even if not RH), but I didn't know how right he'd be.  He has been ridiculous.

GRRRRRRRRR!

^I think you mean "meow" ;)

What was up with tonight's attendance though?  23k for this kind of game, and Ubaldo's home debut?  Support your Tribe Clevelanders!

^tonight should be 30K with Verlander going on a Thursday night.

Glad to see the bullpen played better after those disastrous seven games in Boston and Texas. I realize I should be happy going 3-4 against division leaders on the road, but not when we blew leads going into the 8th or 9th innings.

KIPNIS!

He has been awesome. Now our offense is playing better with him called up, the Fukudome trade and Santana making some timely hits. I hope Brantley's gets better soon. We should be getting Choo back soon. Doesn't look like Sizemore is coming back until early September, though.

After that 12-0 embarrassment by KC on July 29, this team has played several good opponents and gone 6-5 since then.

to be fair the bullpen was "disasterous" against two of the absolute best lineups in all of baseball, and were forced to a point that they couldn't allow any runs because our team couldn't score.

Uggghhhhh...I thought Santana just gave us the lead.

Sorry, guys, Verlander got the job done tonight!

Not a huge baseball or Indians fan but Detroit only won because of the error in the first inning. That game would have gone into extra innings if it weren't for that and who knows what would have happened at that point.

I would not be comfortable at all if I were a Tigers' fan, at least not enough to be talking smack after a game in which their ace barely gave them a win to avoid a sweep.  There is a lot of season left to be played, including nine more games between these clubs.
