8 home games vs 81 home games.

Still, you can't compare support for the Browns to support for the Indians.  Just listen to sports talk radio.

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

We're only 1.5 games out of the playoffs in September, and yet we still have close to the worst attendance in all of baseball.  Then there's the perennial losers that are the Browns selling out a stadium of 72,000 every game and you can understand why players may be frustrated.

Browns games don't sell out either. I go to a few games every year. Other than the first couple games, the rest are at most 3/4 full. There is large institutional buying so the games aren't blacked out. Not as bad as an Indians game, but the Browns aren't immune to falling interests.

Sure, they're not immune.  But they're much more bulletproof than any other team I've seen.  Seriously, when's the last time you would say they were good let alone consistently good?

Yeah, I didn't have issue with what he said. He was just answering a reporter question, not lashing out like CP.  It's not what he said, but i can imagine it being a little annoying as a new player to hear all the whining by cleveland sports fans about how starved the town is for a winner, and then play meaningful, late season games in a mausoleum atmosphere.  Imagine how RTA would feel if it built the west shore commuter rail and KJP wouldn't ride it. :)

If RTA kept stopping the trains just short of my destination station and then said I should ride the train more often to give them more of a reason to try harder at finishing the trip, I'd do more than just stop riding. I'd tell them to go censored.gif themselves.

The browns have been bad recently, but consider the fact that you could be sixty years old and have only experienced ten good years of Indian baseball.  Everyone says how bad the browns are, but the history of the browns is much more rich than the history of the Indians.

I will tell you that I saw a ton of empty seats at the opener this year.

Annnd that's why I can't even listen to sports talk radio anymore. I've finally reached my breaking point. Such intense and narrow focus on the Cleveland Browns has just ruined it for me.

Not only that.... the Browns play on Sundays when most people are not working.

They were driving me crazy on WTAM yesterday discussing this issue, trying to blame it on population loss.  We all know the City proper has lost a significant amount of people, but the County has not lost all that many from when we sold out every game, and more importantly, the "TV market" may actually have grown.

There are a multitude of reasons the Indians are not drawing crowds, but I think frustration with the lack of a competitive balance in baseball is right up there on top.  Cleveland is just the tip of the iceburg for MLB if they don't do something to fix the lack of parity.  The league is already fighting a less than appealing in-game experience considering the steadily improving experience of watching a game at home, and definitely the lack of TV blackouts.

And football is a MUCH better sport! ;)

Indians are pushing $10 tickets for these last home stands.  They should have been doing that months ago.

Sunday afternoon Tribe games this summer had terrible attendance.

I guess, but for a dissenting view:

The Cleveland Indians have a reputation for losing that I'm not sure they necessarily deserve. They have a lifetime winning percentage of .509, eighth in baseball history. They've won five pennants and two World Series, and they have been to the playoffs seven times in the last 20 years. Only four teams -- the Yankees, Cardinals, Red Sox and Braves -- have made the playoffs more often in that time. They've retired six players' numbers. They gave us Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome and Albert Belle. (Those mid-'90s teams were fantastic.) The Indians might not have won a title in nearly 70 years, sure, but this is not a historically incompetent franchise devoid of hope, where nothing has ever gone right. They've had their chances, their highlights, their breakthroughs. They're not the Browns.

It's just hard to believe in a team, when they A) have wilted in the spotlight series (Texas sweep?, aside) and B) generally have struggled against above 500 teams. We've generally  kicked the crap out of he bad teams and that is mathematically keeping us alive. And honestly I have a hard time getting excited with the 1 game playoff format, when I don't think we stand a chance against another playoff team. It's a tease.

I will credit them for keeping it together this long.

Edit: I am grumpy today.

Maybe Terry Francona will go Lee Elia on Tribe fans? (WARNING -- do not play this around kids or at work)

they also literally went forty years without making the playoffs.

Perhaps.... but I bet if the Indians played 8 home games the entire season and each one was on a Sunday afternoon, they would easily sell-out

WTAM is a bunch of right-wing wacko conservatives that HATE everything about Cleveland except, perhaps, its sports teams and take every opportunity to bad-mouth the City.  You may do yourself a favor and turn the dial.

So then we can blame the bad attendance by the Indians on the Democrats!! :-o

BTW, 53 pitches before the ChiSox got the first out in the 5th inning?? WOW!

Indians Fever. I can not wait to get over to the park next week!!

Only game I've caught this summer was a Tribe win in Anaheim (actually dug the stadium quite a bit).

Thursday. Astros. Be there.

can we still get the wildcard?

Here ya go!!

14 runs are good, & so are $10 tix! We have 'em for the remaining six home games, starting Thursday. Grab them here: http://atmlb.com/18iSarq

can we still get the wildcard?

Yes.  We have about a 20% chance of getting it.

can we still get the wildcard?

Of course. The Indians are just 1.5 games back of the last wild card spot. They have to keep winning though.

Chris Perez makes me nervous every time.

I won't miss him when he's gone next year.  And he better be, given his salary.

VICTORY!  1.0 at the moment.

Francono has to age a year every time Perez pitches. Allows 2 base runners before Konerko comes to bat in a 3-1 game. And Konerko flies out to the deepest part of the park for the 3rd out. Poor Terry...

Let's go....uggg........boston.

I feel dirty

Nah, Boston is awesome. It's my new favorite US city after I visited it for the first time this past summer.

Don't feel too bad. There are some very good and knowledgeable fans in Boston...though perhaps they are the minority.

Let's go Detroit Tigers as well!  Hold back those hot Royals.

don't even suggest that the indians won't win the division around here.  we need detroit to lose so we can overtake the tigers, right?

Nope Nope nope...we need the wild card birth.  Kansas City is the bigger threat than the Tigers at this point.

By the way, Yankees, Rangers, and Royals all lost tonight!

While everyone was watching football today... Indians win 8-1.  One game back from the Wild Card!  Plus Baltimore, Texas, and Yankees lose.

U.bal.do

Ubaldo's ERA is now below 3.50 (3.49). The Indians would never had a shot at the playoffs if he had a season like last year.

Wash, rinse, repeat (OK, fine, it was only 7-1 today). Awesome.

No one was watching football, at least until 4 p.m.! ;) OK, thanks to the rain in Chicago, the Indians' game didn't conflict with that semi-pro team in orange helmets. Glad to see Swisher has rediscovered his bat, albeit against one of the worst teams in MLB.

Go Tribe!

If the #Indians can't beat teams above .500 then what's the point of having the wildcard be handed to them?? KC is knocking them around.

See my post from Thursday of Friday last week....

i think Kazmir's arm is dead too.  hopefully Masty can return soon, move kazmir to pen for long relief

In 35 years of watching and playing baseball, I for the life of me cannot remember seeing a team give up two triples in a row.

I picked a bad game to watch.

See my post from Thursday of Friday last week....

You weren't grumpy last week. You said what many people are feeling, as demonstrated by their lack of attendance at games.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Oh, I may have been saying what everybody was feeling but I was definitely grumpy. It was a bad week. I ended up running all new gaslines at my house after I had a leak.

I was starting to buy in again, and then they lay a turd to the Royals who are nipping at their heels. Lets see what they do tonight.

I wonder if the new inter-league schedule has inflated our win record?

Edit: Incase you were wondering, as of this morning the whole AL is 1129-1117 and the NL is 1117-1129. I had to copy the standings into excel to figure that out.

More stellar defense tonight

More stellar defense tonight

Somehow they came back and won that sucker.

I missed the end. I was finally getting to watch Breaking Bad from Sunday.

If they get a win tonight it will be hard for them NOT to make the wild card.  How bout that bullpen?
