Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Awesome pitching tonight by Kluber, going the distance but throwing on 85 pitches! 2-0 shutout win.

I'm not a huge fan of batting average, but his OPS at AA this year was above .900. He's got good pedigree and as far as these types of trades go, I'm satisfied. I really liked Masterson and hope he does well in St. Louis, but he's not been integral to this team's "success" this year and I'm not sure he would have turned it around.

Kluber's amazing.  It's a crime he didn't make the All Star team.  Unfortunately, he's also the only reliable pitcher we have in the rotation right now.

im not the biggest fan of losing starting pitching for a prospect.

although i suppose this was the best we were going to get since he lost his mojo.

Yeah it stinks, but the Indians have been playing the game like this for at least ten years and truthfully if the Dolans are unwilling to open their wallets it's all that the front office to do to keep the club marginally competitive.

Good trade.  Nothing of value was lost considering his track record, recent performance, and time left on his contract.  This is a good move, we were never going to resign him and he's going to get far more than he is worth next year.

Can we trade Santana while his value is at it's height?

how do we not get any pitching back with any of these trades?

Why would we need to trade for a SS?  I thought the entire idea of trading away Astrubal was to clear the path for Lindor...

CLEVELAND -- The Indians will hold an 11 a.m. ET news conference Thursday to announce major enhancements to Progressive Field The news conference will be streamed live on Indians.com.

Detailed information about the improvements was not immediately divulged, but the Indians did confirm that the changes will all be privately financed. This is important to note, in light of Cuyahoga County voters passing a 20-year extension of the "sin tax" on alcohol and cigarettes that is expected to generate at least $260 million for Progressive Field, the Browns' FirstEnergy Stadium and the Cavaliers' Quicken Loans Arena.

Progressive Field (formerly Jacobs Field) opened in 1994 and has received several modifications in recent years, including the conversion of several suites into the Collection Auto Group Club and the Kids Clubhouse.

But the coordination of an in-season news conference of this nature hints at a project of a much larger scope.

I'm sure it's not part of the plan, but I would like to see the scoreboard moved to open up a better view of the city. You can see in MayDay's excellent photo that by removing the scoreboard and shifting it over to right field how that would open up a great view of the skyline, especially at night.

^btw, after tonight's 8-3 blowout loss to Cincy, Danny Salazar was optioned to AAA Columbus.

He'll be back up soon. They move him down to bring up Lee to give the bullpen a break.

There's some rumblings about removing the right-field upper deck and making other major changes to the mid- to right-field portions of the ballpark. I'll start a new thread in projects/construction to discuss the development.

I hope in the press conference today they announce they will be removing the Jim Thome statue.  That should be the first priority in renovating the stadium.

No doubt, but the kid needs to cool his heels and get his head together for a few rotations.  He's a valuable cog for the future -- guys that can throw rockets like Salazar don't come around every day.  But he (and Tomlin) pitched incredibly dumb ball the last 2 days that really hurt the team.  We let a group of banjo hitters at the bottom of Cincy's order kill us with the Long Ball on consecutive nights; 2 straight nights from a team absent their big guns: Votto & Phillips.  Re that killer 3-run homer by Cozart (again) in the 2nd inning, Rick Manning noted that Salazar weirdly went with a slider, that hung, have he'd been out-gunning Cozart with speed as he'd fouled off the prior 2 pitches swinging late.  Worse yet, there were 2 outs at the time and the on-deck batter was the pitcher...

But Danny's a kid with an obvious physical gift... He'd been pitching well until last night and even last night, 48 of his (economical) 69 pitches were strikes; he struck out 5 and didn't walk anybody... He just has to learn better how, when he's got a batter on the ropes, to put him away.

Cleveland Indians detail multimillion-dollar renovation plans, seat cuts at Progressive Field

The Cleveland Indians will eliminate roughly 7,000 seats from Progressive Field, as part of a multimillion-dollar renovation designed to boost attendance at games and create more spaces that appeal to young professionals and families.

During a meeting early Thursday morning at the downtown ballpark, Indians President Mark Shapiro said the team is responding to fan feedback and broader changes in professional sports.  Between the end of this season and opening day in 2015, the Indians hope to reconfigure stretches of the venue from center field to right field.

They'll cap off a section of the upper deck, which sits empty on all but the busiest days, with a platform that will conceal unused seats and create new game-viewing areas. They'll add a two-story, indoor-outdoor bar and five food areas dedicated to Cleveland neighborhoods, as part of a concessions overhaul. And they'll expand the Kids Clubhouse and other areas for families, while eliminating 16 or so suites as part of an ongoing effort to cut back on poorly used, higher-price seating.

"We're really adapting the building to the current sports landscape and the size of the market," Shapiro said.

so 2 out of 3 against the yankees this go round and an overall 4-3 series win this year? thx tribe -- i'll be sure to take that bragging right to the bank on these obnoxious yankee fan homers. ha.

Just in case you missed it, and judging by the attendance you have, the Indians managed to win a few more games lately and are now only 3.5 games out of the wildcard chase and 5 games behind division leader KC with a win against KC just waiting to be finished Sept. 22.

^You got a 'like' for channeling Harry Doyle

Starting pitching has been something else

The Indians could potentially be... "pragmatically" in first place after Sunday's game, presuming we later win the Kansas game that restarts in the 10th or 11th inning. And with a 3 run lead, I think it's a lock.

Of course that presumes we sweep Detroit this weekend.

And it also presumes Boston plays like Boston (against KC) for once.

Ooooops

Amazingly, the Tribe still has not been mathematically eliminated from the post season, even as we start the final series of the season.

It's been a little disappointing over the past few weeks, even if everyone else's losing has helped the team hang around, but still some amazing things this season.  Kluber is already the best AL CY candidate as of now, but another good outing tonight and he may even get the votes from some of the dumber voters.  And Brantley was probably the second best AL position player this season.  The era of "no stars on this team" definitely seems to be over.

Summary of the below? So you're saying there's a chance!

________

Try to wrap your brain around this!!

The scenarios for the Indians forcing an American League Wild Card tiebreak have become simpler:

The Indians must sweep Tampa Bay this weekend, with Corey Kluber — #CyKluber — (Friday), Carlos Carrasco (Saturday) and Danny Salazar (Sunday) pitching

The Rangers must win their next three games against the A’s; Texas won, 2-1, on Thursday on Adrian Beltre’s walk-off homer. The Rangers have won 12 of their last 13 games.

Seattle must lose at least one of its final three games vs. the Angels

If Texas sweeps Oakland and Seattle goes 2-1 against the Angels — and the Indians sweep Tampa Bay — we have a three-way tie for the second Wild Card spot. The three teams then would be given A, B and C designations. Details:

Determining A, B, C Designations in Three-Team Tiebreakers (When Three Clubs Do Not Have Identical Records Against One Another)

If Club 1 has a better record against Clubs 2 and 3, and Club 2 has a better record against Club 3, then Club 1 chooses its designation, followed by Club 2.

If Club 1 has a better record against Clubs 2 and 3, and Club 2 and 3 have identical records against one another, then Club 1 chooses its designation. Clubs 2 and 3 would follow the two-Club tiebreak rules to break their tie to pick the next designation.

If Club 1 and 2 have identical records against one another, but each has a better record against Club 3, then Clubs 1 and 2 would follow the two-Club tiebreak rules to break their tie to pick the first designation.

If Club 1 has a better record against Club 2, Club 2 has a better record against Club 3, and Club 3 has a better record against Club 1; OR Club 1 has a better record against Club 2, Club 2 and 3 have identical records against one another and Club 3 has a better record against Club 1; OR Club 1 and 2 have identical records against one another, Club 1 has a better record against Club 3 and Club 2 and 3 have identical records against one another, then:

The Clubs will be ranked by their overall winning percentage amongst the other Clubs combined. The Club with the highest overall winning percentage in that group chooses its designation, followed by the team with the next highest overall winning percentage.

If two of the Clubs have identical winning percentages, then they would follow the two-Club tiebreak rules to break their tie to pick their designation.

If all three teams have identical winning percentages, then the tiebreak rules above (No. 1) for three clubs having identical records against one another should be followed.

scenarios and rules! this is when we need hal lebovitz. i miss his take. he was a family friend too, so we all do.

Oakland won last night. Indians are officially out of it.

Kluber had a hell of a game again.

^ yeah hopefully he gets the cy, but hernandez probably will get it.

well it was a frustrating season, but certainly not a bad one. more bats plz.

KLUBER!!!

Very cool.  I'm already excited for 2015.

Very deserving, but I'm still surprised he won

Good for Kluber! I'm surprised he won as well.

Very deserving, but I'm still surprised he won

It was between him and Hernandez, the difference was probably Felix's poor final outing.  Perhaps as well, he's won one already.

Kluber, Felix, and Tanaka (pre-injury) were the top three in the AL last year, with a significant drop after them.

It was just so close stats wise. Assuming that the "King Felix" hype machine would carry the day just seemed like the more likely outcome.

It's Tribe time now!!!!

Kongrats Klubot!

victor martinez gets $68m to dh for the tigers for the next 4yrs. not bad. gotta say tho that if anybody deserves a big payday its him.

$325 million for 13 years!!!!!! Stanton of the Marlins got that much. Insane. Do they have any idea how many policemen that could buy? But it's their money.

I don't know if the Tribe was thinking about bringing in a bat this off-season. But after seeing these prices, I wouldn't be surprised if Dolan is getting scared off.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I don't think we were every going to be playing at that end of the pool anyway, but that's really OK. If they aren't careful, the Tigers could find themselves in a Phillies/Yankees-like death spiral in the next few years.

Tribe NEEDS a bat.

"Welcome to Cleveland, Brandon Moss! We’ve acquired the 2014 All-Star for minor-league infielder Joey Wendle."

"Moss hit 25 HRs and drove in 81 runs in a career-high 147 gms last year.

He's hit 55 homers the last 2 seasons -- 13th in MLB in that span."

Tribe may not be done yet. If the Browns had an offense (and better defense!) last year, they would have had a legit shot at the World Series....

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The acquisition of Brandon Moss may have changed the Indians' outlook, but they have talked to the Braves about outfielder Justin Upton.

Upton, 27, hit .279 with 29 homers and 102 RBI this year. The right-handed hitting Upton can be a free agent after the 2015 season. He'll make $14.5 million next year and is drawing a lot of interest.

In two years with the Braves, Upton has hit 56 homers with 172 RBI.

The Braves are seeking starting pitching and a second baseman.
