well they got a great bat. and it was a steal too. lets hope the hip holds out. this is what brought the batting average down in the second half of the year:

On Oct. 21, Moss underwent an operation performed in Nashville by Dr. Thomas Byrd. Moss told the San Francisco Chronicle that Byrd was prepared to perform microfracture surgery but all that he needed was a labrum repair and cartilage cleanup, which should make his rehab somewhat easier.

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Jason Giambi has announced his retirement.

We'll never, ever forget this: http://atmlb.com/1v6Mehz

Thanks, G.

The video I posted is of Ron Washington reacting to Giambi's walk-off while scoreboard watching during the 2013 wildcard race.

Giambi was huge for us, esp last year when, imho, without him, we don't make the playoffs... But for Giambi highlights, there's only one that gives me goose bumps:

The video I posted is of Ron Washington reacting to Giambi's walk-off while scoreboard watching during the 2013 wildcard race.

Except it was a different walk-off. And nothing Giambi did before he came to the Indians actually happened.

^Same walk-off. 9/24/13. Washington's Rangers had just gone up on Houston and looked poised to pull even with the Tribe in the wild car race. Then Giambi hits his bomb vs the White Sox to give the Tribe the surprise victory, keeping CLE one game up over TEX. Ron Washington reacts unhappily to the news.

I did not know that!

It's considered bad luck in baseball to blatantly scoreboard watch while your team is playing, kind of like mentioning a no-hitter.

hows about a spring training story? yesterday a bunch of the guys were waiting in line at the coffee maker. swish walks up and smacks it and says something like "ya know the yankees have espresso machines" and everybody razzes him and pelts him with cups. how did i hear that one? i was talking with james ramsay's brother last night. hes the ooutfielder who came via the justin masterson trade. his bro talked to him yesterday and was saying he liked the clippers stadium and he is real excited to be with the indians. so that was pretty cool!

Only a couple more days until the first pitch of spring training! The killer of all things winter!!

I can't wait to hear Tom Hamilton's voice again on the radio for the first time.

Ha, that comment struck me as a Yogi Berra quote.

"@Indians: Our Home Opener is SOLD OUT -- and did so in 11 minutes.

See you on April 10 vs. Detroit!"

11 minutes? That's funny. I was online at 10:00 on the dot trying to buy tickets, but nothing was available. Yet there are thousands of tickets on StubHub already. Thanks, Indians.

I couldn't buy one ticket in any section at 10am. It doesn't help that they cut 5,000 seats out of the stadium.

On a positive note, I don't think they sold the tickets to the sections that aren't completed yet (the new bar, the kid zone/mezzanine and whatever the upper deck right field is.) Maybe they will open those up if they get them done in time. It would be a bad idea to sell them right now...

Right before they removed the home opener as an available game to buy tickets, a few new seating sections appeared on the menu, including standing room only. So you may be right.

The weather has been brutal in April for the Tribe the last couple of years. On top of that their home schedule in April has been as many as 15 dates, just killing attendance. Should be better this year with only 9 home games in April and a later start date. Idk if the schedule just falls that way or somebody got smart.

Ive heard from a very strong source that the 2019 MLB all star game will be in Cleveland and that its a done deal.

I have also heard some loose rumors that the Dolans are the process of selling.  That is not a done deal...just rumors.

FYI: SportsTime Ohio will re-air “Beating the Odds: The Al Rosen Story” as a tribute to Al, who passed away at the age of 91 on Friday

STO will air the special on Tuesday (9pm), Wednesday (10pm), Thursday (2pm) and Friday (12pm).

Franchise bests/worsts: Cleveland Indians

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Let's devote some time to the Indians, shall we?

Over the course of the next month, we'll venture through the history of each of the 30 Major League Baseball franchises, discussing some of the best and worst moments, players, teams, etc. It's more a fun snapshot for discussion purposes than a be-all, end-all declaration. We continue today with the Cleveland Indians.

The Indians, owners of two championships and five pennants, trace their origins back to 1901, when the fledgling American League swooped into the Cleveland market after the demise of the NL's Spiders. Now let's enjoy a walking tour of Indians history ...

Best team: 1948

SI cover: 2015 MLB Preview: It's anyone's year

The last time Sports Illustrated anointed the Cleveland Indians as favorites to win the World Series was 1987.

With Joe Carter (who would have his own World Series moment years later) and Cory Snyder on the cover, SI declared that “Cleveland is the Best Team in the American League.”

No, this is not the script of the movie Major League, as the previous five seasons before 1987, Cleveland finished 5th, 7th, 6th, 7th and 6th in the American League East.

The 1987 season was no different. An Indians pitching staff that featured two aging future Hall of Famers was pummeled, allowing an absurd 957 runs with a team ERA of 5.28. Cleveland finished with baseball’s worst record at 61-101, 37 games behind division winner Detroit.

The losing would continue for the next seven years before a breakout season in 1995, when the Indians went to their first World Series since 1954. (The Indians were beaten in six games by the Atlanta Braves).

So what makes this year any different? Could MLB see another "Indian Uprising?"

Cleveland hasn't won a World Championship since 1948 but boasts loads of talent, with leftfielder Michael Brantley, first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Moss, first baseman Carlos Santana and reigning AL Cy Young award winnerCorey Kluber, who went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 269 strikeouts last season.

It could be anyone’s year in 2015, when smart free agency moves and development of young talent can be bring perennial cellar-dwellers to the pinnacle of a title.

At least we have someone to blame for Kluber coming back down to earth this season.

At least he had a pretty good year in '07. It took a while for the jinx to set in.

Yeah, but it came with a vengeance when it arrived.

True.

Maybe they need a Rocky Colavito statue to destroy the Jinx.

I don't think a Klubot is susceptible to jinxes. Makes sense that a Klubot is on the cover of Popular Mechanics!

Argh! Still a fun game.  Should be an awesome weekend series this weekend, with decent weather even.

Agreed. I'll be there tomorrow. Can't wait.

Dammit, Hagadone. That homer blew up the team no-hitter! Glad to get the win. Awesome pitching so far and the offense showed up today.

Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer: A combined 0.92 ERA through three games. Is that good? #TribeTown http://t.co/pMgRrj3KoN

interesting trivia tidbit here:

Astros and Indians with small payrolls

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco goes against the Houston Astros’ Scott Feldman on Wednesday. Both teams rank in the bottom five of payrolls this season, the Astros at $71 million and the Indians at $86 million. Combined, both teams’ payroll is $157 million - $115.8 million short of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ league-leading $272.8 million.

Not this time......TAM started talking about it in the sixth inning.

I hoping to see some offensive output at Progressive Field this season. We sure saw it yesterday, except it was from the Tigers....
