December 7, 20159 yr ^ I do. The old scoreboard sucked big time. While I appreciate stadium upgrades, it pisses me off that the team cries poor when it comes to upgrading the lineup. Tribe fans want to win and to hell with the frills. Give me a big-time, reliable bat over the constant upgrades anytime. The fact that a somewhat dull, smaller-market team like Kansas City can put together a World Series winning club with good pitching and timely hitting, should make fans realize that it can be done in a mid-sized market like Cleveland... no excuses!
December 7, 20159 yr ^Fine. I still am tired of hearing of stadium upgrades when the team isn't spending serious money to upgrade the on-the-field product. Indeed, the fact the Dolans are not paying for these upgrades makes it even worse: it means they should be able to focus their money on the team and aren't adequately or correctly doing so. The Indians still have one of the smallest payrolls in the MLB IIRC.
January 25, 20169 yr Neat series from Jordan Bastian talking about preserving artifacts from Indians' history. I wish we had an Indians museum at Progressive Field similar to that of the Cincinnati Reds http://m.indians.mlb.com/news/article/162208070/indians-aggressive-in-preserving-team-history

February 27, 20169 yr 80 games? is that the standard? or has he been previously popped for the same thing? New Standard for first time offense; until last year, penalty was 50... 2nd offense is now year long ban (previously 100).

April 4, 20169 yr I am really shocked they would do this 2 hours before... maybe a windfall but people are going to be PISSED. They already took vacation days, paid for parking, etc. Wow!
April 4, 20169 yr ... well, the last time our opener was snowed out was in 2007 when we played our "home" opener against the Angels in Milwaukee. Of course, that year the Indians went to the ALCS and had the Red Sox on the ropes 3-1 with lowly Colorado waiting for them in the World Series. Of course in true Cleveland sports fashion, we choked away games 5 and 6 and Boston handled us at home in Game 7.
April 4, 20169 yr Getting tired of MLB continuing to schedule northern, non-domed games in early April. The home opener will sell out, but the other two games of the series won't do as well in cold weather as it would if scheduled later. I have to wonder how much money the Indians and other northern teams lose with these MLB dumb schedules. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 4, 20169 yr not surprized, but wow talk about waiting until the last minute. that is aggravating for everyone planning on going to the game no doubt. here's a dumb rant about the opening day schedule from some blog, but just look at how wacky the scheduling is: Bad weather all over the east - Why do they have two dome teams (Toronto & Tampa) playing one another? Why do they have the Mariners on the road when they have a retractable roof? Dodgers and Padres playing one another, rather than hosting cold-weather teams? And the Yankees opening at home vs. in Houston? Who scheduled all this? Stevie Wonder?
April 4, 20169 yr Would it be unfair, in either direction, if northern teams backload their home dates? Probably not but who am I to say. I think a lot of fans would be pissed if they didn't get an opening day home game every other year, even with the complications. Hasn't it always kinda been like this?

April 4, 20169 yr The should have called it last night, the forecast didn't change at all. A lot of angry people running around. I mean I left the office to go to the game and get lunch, and I lost 3 hours of productivity and will again tomorrow. They live in a different world than the rest of us. People plan their opening day trips months in advance
April 4, 20169 yr From: Danburg, Curtis Sent: April 04, 2016 2:46 PM Subject: Indians statement concerning cause of postponed game Today’s game was postponed due to the forecast changing from no precipitation to having precipitation most of the afternoon and into early evening. April 4, 20169 yr Total B.S.!! I took a half day of work, took my nephew out of school early, paid to park and paid for food. It's cold, but come on, it's not that bad. And then if anyone can't go tomorrow, they can only exchange the tix for games in April - Mid May? That's even more B.S. We paid a premium for opening day tickets. My seat s cost like $67 for upper deck and they are saying I can exchange for what would otherwise be a $20 ticket in ONLY April to Mid May.
April 5, 20169 yr They could have played that game. Flurries came around 7, but I've seen worse baseball weather. The rest of the time it was just cold. You can play baseball in the cold

My in-laws missed the initial sale and bought their tickets on Vivid. They can't go tomorrow and are also not allowed to exchange them since they bought them from a third party seller.
April 5, 20169 yr The Indians announced an 'enhanced ticket exchange policy' that's states: - Attend rescheduled Home Opener on Tuesday, April 5 AND any game of their choice in April or May at Progressive Field - For fans who cannot attend rescheduled Home Opener on Tuesday, April 5: Attend two other games of choice in April or May At least the team is trying to make good on a crappy situation :/
April 5, 20169 yr ^ Still BS that the game was called, but props to the Indians for instituting this exchange policy.
April 5, 20169 yr Is Cleveland Indians baseball opening day really that big of a story or does the ownership just have a lock with all the local media outlets? April 5, 20169 yr Viral Red Face Fan Reconciles With Anti-Wahoo Protesters Two Years Later Posted By Sam Allard on Tue, Apr 5, 2016 at 8:44 am Pedro Rodriguez, the Cleveland Indians fan who made national headlines in 2014 for confronting anti-Wahoo protesters in red face, confronted the anti-Wahoo protesters again Monday, before the home opener was postponed. This time, he came to apologize. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/04/05/viral-red-face-fan-reconciles-with-anti-wahoo-protesters-two-years-later
April 5, 20169 yr Quite the move by Mr. Rodriguez. And the right move. He was apologizing for the face paint? Because in the picture he is still donning wahoo. It seems as if the protestors are grateful for the progress of this guy and are excited they may have opened his eyes, but aren't they protesting the exact logo he is wearing?

If Mr. Rodriguez is of Latin American heritage, there's a good chance he's of native American ancestry. I rarely wear the Cheif Wahoo hat anymore as I've come to like the block C. Plus I travel a lot and even if most people are not offended by the logo I still would rather avoid any controversy. Interestingly when I was driving cross country recently I saw an Apache boy sporting the Wahoo hat in Arizona. In hindsight I wished I had talked with him.

AMIRIGHT that the protestors don't mind the name, just the portrayal of the heritage through the cartoon?

AMIRIGHT that the protestors don't mind the name, just the portrayal of the heritage through the cartoon? I too hope they keep the name. Honorable intentions. I'm not sure to what extent people are offended by the Indians moniker, such as the case with Miami University and Washington "Redskins." Of course Eastern Michigan University shed "Hurons" for the awfully generic "Eagles" while Central Michigan (Chippewas) and Florida State (Seminoles) I doubt will ever change.
April 5, 20169 yr ^No honorable intentions. Just a newspaper contest. I don't really want to wade into this broader discussion, but the "it honors Louis Sockoloxis" appears to be a myth, in case that's what you were referring to.

In some cases it's "colors" for American Indian gangs. Usually, it's much more benign. One of my customers in Wisconsin had a Chippewa operator who always wore a Wahoo cap. It was an identity thing for him, though he usually called himself a Chippewa (most Indians use their tribe name as their ethnicity if they are not mixed or are white-mixed). He had no problem with the logo or being called an "Indian".
April 11, 20169 yr good lord - has anyone ever ordered or seen anyone eating a slider dog? ha! from an editorial: Ballpark food ain’t peanuts Gluttons visiting Yankee Stadium can now chow down on the “Barnyard Wedding’’ — hash browns on top of a fried-chicken cutlet on top of a cheddar cheese-covered beef patty. Gross. There’s also the “Slider Dog.’’ That’s a hot dog covered with macaroni and cheese, bacon — and Froot Loops cereal! — available at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians. April 14, 20169 yr Nice Series recovery for the tribe. Take away two bad innings of pitching and the tribe have a really nice start to the season. They had late leads in both of those losses, so fixing those let downs should be correctable. The hitting is not great but should be able to support the pitching. I think there will be plenty of tight wins this year, and times where the sky is falling because we didn't hit enough. Great to see the band aid guys like Byrd and Ramirez keeping the seat warm for Brantley and chisenhall. Beautiful weekend to see the mets!
April 14, 20169 yr So far so good. We need to play around .500 in April and May; hopefully (at least) slightly above this in May. Horrible April's and early Mays have killed us later on, because Francona, being the cerebral, player's manager that he is, observes player's habits (esp pitchers) and tends to get the best out of them later on in the season -- hence Tito's traditional strong finishes.
