Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Yep. Someone called it a "bullpen day" or something like that.

Weekend Attendance:

Sunday, September 4:

25,910

LOL thank you--I didn't even realized that posted.  My firefox crashed and I never went back to it!  :)

I think we will start to see the attendance trending upward for the rest of the season.  Should be no issues with playoff tickets left unsold.

Indians magic number is 22, with 27 games left. I'll take those odds.

No worries. I figured it was either that or that last glass of Bourbon pushed you over the edge.  :-)

Apparently the baseball gods hate the Cleveland Indians.

But we still won ????

We won a battle but lost a powerful ally.

I want to believe that this team will rally around this setback, but losing Carrasco for the season after Salazar suffered the same fate is a huge blow. The Tribe was set to have arguably the most dominant front-end of the rotation of any team heading into the postseason. Now they've got Kluber (who incidentally is pitching like an ace) and Bauer (who is a solid starter) and several question marks.

The Indians can definitely compete because the bullpen is still really good and the lineup is decent enough, but the chances of winning it all are much more of a long-shot. This is really frustrating. If they were healthy and another team was just better in the playoffs, I'd be okay with that, but we're not even going to get to see what this team might have been able to accomplish at its best.

Sometimes the best championships are won when the greatest odds are stacked against. See Red Sox 04 and cavs 2016. If anyone can lead it, it's francona

And Bauer's start today does not inspire confidence in him as the #2 heading into October.

And Bauer's start today does not inspire confidence in him as the #2 heading into October.

Bauer was his usual inconsistent self today.  Just when you thought he'd righted the ship and pitch out of a major jam, uncorks a ridiculous, 2-out wild pitch on an 0-2 pitch... That's Bauer.  He seems to drift in and out of brain-lock.

I'd love to believe in this team and its manager who have dealt with adversity (Almonte) and serious injury (Brantley then Gomes) since even before the season started.  But losing both Salazar and Carrasco in successive weeks in the last month of the season may be too much even for the Tribe to overcome.  You're talking about the number 2 and 3 pitchers in the rotation; 2 lights-out guys who helped get us in the position we are now in.  I have zero confidence in Bauer.  Our only hope is if Tomlin can get back to his early-season stuff and if Clevinger can give us 4, 5 and hopefully 6 innings.  With teams like Toronto and Texas awaiting in postseason, I'm not imbued with a sense of confidence even despite this amazing regular season run.

Loving all the chatter and excitement regarding the Tribe going on around here

Yesterday, Cleveland clinched home field advantage against Boston in the ALDS:

Game 1: Thursday at 8:08 p.m. ET at Progressive Field (Pitching matchup: Trevor Bauer vs. Rick Porcello)

Game 2: Friday at 4:38 p.m. ET at Progressive Field (Pitching matchup: Corey Kluber vs. David Price)

Game 3: Sunday at 4:08 p.m. ET at Fenway Park (Pitching matchup: Josh Tomlin vs. TBA)

*Game 4: Monday, TBA, at Fenway Park

*Game 5: Wednesday, TBA, at Progressive Field

No one cares about the regular season. When postseason games get underway, there will be chatter -- unless the Indians lose badly. I'm going to Thursday night's game so, like, back off man ;).

There you go, "where are the fans?" Nation. I've been saying all along, baby steps. The product has produced one trip to the playoffs in 9 years until this year. Slight growth last year based on francona bringing a third straight winning season. This year, up 10% in attendance, up 65% in TV.  That's a great step in the right direction. Continue to win next year and growth will continue.  It took 15 years almost to get back to sustainable, winning baseball, it's not gonna take 1 year to get back to top 10 in attendance

i didn't know they confirmed tomlin for game three, thats a scoop for me. so ok. its on tonight. go tribe!

And it's final. Tribe win game one 5-4. Francona burned through the best of our bullpen. I hope Kluber eats up some innings tomorrow.

Man Roberto Perez was all over that game tonight.  Hopefully Kluber is feeling OK for tomorrow.

Also TBS is the worst. I always look forward to live shots of the city during the game, but did anyone notice they gave us 'b-roll' that was at least 3 years old.  Shots of the Horseshoe Casino and the old Sherwin Williamsm banner was hilarious.

Francona managed like it was Game 7 in the World Series.  Kluber is going to have  to go long tomorrow with the pen now gassed, but he's our ace and, again, a Cy Young candidate. Such is life with our no. 2 and 3 pitchers out injured.  Huge win; 1-0.

I've been talking smack with all my Boston friends for a few days.  They all wish they had Tito!

Worst?  NO.

If this did occur, please tell me what inning and in detail what you saw!

Tito's the best in the biz imho.  He gets more out of his players than anyone.  Even though all our individual pitchers aren't great, he's found a role for each one of them so that, collectively, they're a unit and one of the toughest in the MLB.  Ditto for our hitters... If Wedge or Acta (or hell Dartmouth-educated Brad Ausmus) managed this team, it would have won 75-80 games and been out of the playoffs... Hiring Tito is the by far the best move the Dolans have made.

YES the Worst.

Sorry don't have a time stamp for you and I didn't see the whole game.  But number one the TT was in blue/red last night in honor of the tribe. There was one shot where the TT was yellow and another shot had it in purple, clearly not live. If you follow @towerlightscle they even talked about it. But the best shot coming out of commercial was a supposed shot in downtown looking across Ontario at the SW building with the old Sherwin Williams Banner (The one before the current Lebron banner) with the Casino in the background and the old HorseShoe Caino signage.  Is it too much to ask to have a remote video guy walking around the ballpark for some live shots. Go tribe.

Thanks I'll investigate.  But please know, broadcast TV is more than just having someone walk around for B roll.

Oh by the way, the Indians are up 2-0 in a best of 5 series. One more win!

Masterful performance by Kluber and our hitters.  The media, and I'm sure Boston fans, are now ganging up on David Price who still has yet to win a post season game and has a fat post season ERA: the "$219 Million Man" they're calling him.  We just dusted off their 2 aces and we would likely have gone down yesterday with Bauer had not Francona so masterfully handled his pitching staff.  We need Tomlin to be on his game but you can bet Tito will have a quick hook if it goes south early.  Fenway obviously will be challenging...

... side note: I agree that TBS is terrible from a graphics standpoint.  No strike zone or pitch count; they occasionally give you pitch radar speed often don't even give you the batter's name.  This is all state of the art stuff for ESPN and Fox.  MLB needs to demand more or leave Turner.  As for the crew; they're OK; I happen to personally like Cal (seems like a decent guy from his playing days with Baltimore) and Ernie Johnson (good guy; cancer survivor and I love his NBA TNT work-- best panel in all of sports imho), but  Ernie seems to be a fish out of water doing baseball although I always enjoy his dry wit.... Darling seems a bit of a know it all and is a tad annoying.

TBS's postgame commentary panel is awful. Jimmy Rollins is the best of a bad bunch. Pedro Martinez is awful. In two Indians victories, the best they could say about the Tribe was to compliment Kluber. They blamed the Red Sox for bad play, but could not credit the Indians for good play. They seemed surprised that the Indians could score. Did they not know Cleveland is the second best hitting team this year? They didn't seem to know any of the players and talk talked like they hadn't seen an Indians game this year. So I watched more of the MLB Network instead.

I couldn't agree more. They were absolutely awful. That's the other thing that I noticed is they didn't know any of the players. Clvlndr is also spot on with TBS lackluster production of the game.

A few years back during the World Series there was half an inning with no announcers, just crowd noise of the stadium. To this day I don't know if it was purposeful or some kind of production glitch.

It was glorious.

So what role, if any, will Danny Salazar be able to play moving forward for the club? I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but I like how this could be shaping up. If he could join the ALCS roster and pitch in long relief behind Tomlin or Clevinger (or Bauer even), that would be huge.

In the 1980s, either CBS or NBC broadcasted an entire football game without any TV announcers, using just crowd noise and the stadium's announcer. I remember switching channels and accidentally finding this game. I wondered if there was something wrong because I never heard a TV announcer. Only later did I learn that this was intentional.

Very cool. If this isn't a viewing option today, well, it really should be. Actually I'm betting one of the several channels airing the Super Bowl had this available.

There's just something majestic and historical about baseball. Having two guys forcing conversation over the action can really be a drag. Especially the way voices are perfectly EQ'd in the studio.

YES!!!!!

ALCS here we come!  Let's hope the year of Cleveland continues and we can end Toronto's year once again!

Woohoo! Go Windians!

Congrats to the Tribe! The Cavs and Indians are so far ahead of the Browns it's not even funny.

Saw this on Twitter and thought it was funny...

The Indians are 8 wins away from ending Cleveland's long suffering 4 month drought of a championship for the city.

Great win last night!

I can't say that I'm salty for TBS photoshopping a pic of a burning river out of jest.  Maybe someone in Cleveland slept with one of the producer's wives or something.  Talk about not being able to let go- we're talking about close to 50 years ago now.  But whatever.  Go Tribe!

Pedro acted like a particular ss[/member] last night as well towards the Indians. Cleveland is way over the 1999 ALCS but you'd never know it according to the way he behaved in that studio.

On and on about snowing in Cleveland as well. It's colder in Boston almost all the time, look at last night!

There is a lot of anger in that studio. Boston and Texas would bring better TV ratings and it makes those folks bitter. Little do they know that a Cubs-Indians "cursed" WS would probably bring mondo ratings by MLB standards. But then again, it won't be on TBS.

It's amazing the difference in city coverage between TNT with the Cavs and the TBS garbage last night.

TBS is the worst.  No credit given to Cleveland.  They dissed our city with the burning river.  They ragged on our weather even though it was beautiful here and crappy in Boston.  Postgame coverage was all about Boston and Big Papi instead of the Indians celebrating.  They couldn't have been more biased if they tried.

Red Sox fans are actually angry with TBS too for showing the Indians celebrating on the field instead of focusing on Big Papi's departure which was happening at the same time. Poor babies. They treat the national networks like they are local channels. Must be nice.

Is it really just a Cleveland thing? ... even after the Cavs exorcised our championship demons last June 19th?  Or was it more objective considering our losing Salazar and Carrasco in September?  Maybe... but it's just puzzled me that everyone, including Boston Globe writer (and Cleveland's best friend) Dan Shaughnessy referred to the Indians in the Red Sox series (in Shaughnessy's words) as 'huge underdogs.'  Of course PD's Paul Hoynes is now mea culpa-ing today following his now infamous Sept. 17th column stating that the Indians postseason is 'over before it started.'  Clearly Hoynes, though, was looking at the rotations' sudden injury bug...

... but my moral of the story, which you think'd everybody would have learned by now: pick against Terry Francona-led teams at your own peril.

They've spent too much time around Yankees fans and have picked up their habits.

This morning, ESPN didn't show any Indians game highlights (at least in the 10 am Sportscenter hour while I was sitting in a dentist's chair). The only thing they mentioned even remotely associated with the Indians big win was a tribute to some porky baseball player who played his last game last night.
