I'd rather face the Cubs.  First, I want to avoid Kershaw.  Second, if we lose, at least another long-suffering fan base will have exorcised its demons.  Third, if we win, another long-suffering fan base will keep on suffering.

I can agree with that logic

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

EDIT - let me correct myself.  I used someone else's WOW info.  I don't have cable so usually Time Warner credentials work but for TBS I had to track down WOW login info.

I hate this 2-3-2 format.  MLB needs to go 2-2-1-1-1.

This has been as dominant a performance from a pitching staff I can recall.  I'm sure there are others, but down Salazar and Carasco and now Bauer's finger falling off.  Tito is pushing all the right buttons.  Hope Kluber can go at least 5 and Miller/Allen can shut it down late.

^ And if we lose to the Cubs, then we move to 1st place...in the team with the longest World Series drought

If the Indians can win the World Series the idea of the Browns going winless I could care less about. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Funny, I wrote on Twitter last week that I thought a winless Brown season was a fair trade for both Cavs and Tribe titles in the same year.

Let's get to the world series first.

IMO, we're playing with house money. One championship in the bag, up 3-1 in the ALCS. There's no difference to me between winning one more game or four more. Five more wins makes this an unbelievably magical year for Cleveland sports, but it's been a great run even if we lose the next 3 (which I doubt will happen).

Yeah, I agree.

That being said...I'm watching the next game at a different bar and inviting different friends.

is today's game really at 4pm again?

i just checked yes it is -- i guess i shouldnt complain about early games.

go tribe. hopefully merritt merits at least three or four good innings. then its miller time.

oh and go dodgers.

Well today is a lot more fun so far (Coco!! Merritt!!)

Over the years I've spent probably more time on the Yankees and BoSox message boards. Tonight it's the Yanks fans who are not disappointing me...

Kudos to the blosux who kicked out the major players in this ALCS - Franconca, Miller, Napoli, and Crisp! Thanks, losers. You're the gift that keeps on giving!!!

Haven't won a World Series since 1948.......I'd say it's time!!

Another congratulations to Miller...Wow!

I will be pulling for the Tribe in the World Series. Thank goodness Toronto is out.

What? No runs off Merritt? But Blotista said he would be shaking in his boots!

ANDREW BLEEPIN' MILLER!

Indians fever!!!!

Oh heck...one more :-)

Thank you Cleveland Indians! You singlehandedly eliminated the Blosox and Blojays, the two most loudmouth, whiny and arrogant teams in baseball. For that, we as Yankee fans are eternally grateful. Here's hoping you finally win a world series.

^Awesome

What a game by Merrit. Hard to believe he'd put up those numbers in an ALCS closeout game. The kid still has spots!

Classic!!!

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but damnit, I'm loving the "love" that Cleveland had been getting!

This ride started with the Gay Games in 2014 and that fuzzy, feel good, feeling has hung around for the past two years.

Ticket prices are insane. Third party tickets for standing room only are approaching the thousand dollar mark!

It's been fun comparing the Tribe playoff run to the Cavs, to friends who are not from Cleveland.  The Cavs team was built to win a championship.  Anything less than making it to the Finals game would have been a letdown for that team.  For the Tribe, even though they led the division pretty much all year, I don't think anyone was talking "World Series".  Agreed, feels like they are playing with house money.  Very exciting.  Watching Miller mow down their lineup has been incredible.

Having said all that, anyone want to rethink who we want to face between Cubs/Dodgers?

I prefer the Cubs. The storyline of 2 long-suffering teams, fan bases is  too enticing.

Face value is $100 -> tickets sold out in 12 minutes this morning.

Ugh - completely shut out from yesterday and today's sales.  I don't think they were offering very many tickets at all.  Sucks because I've never been to a WS game, and there's no way i'm paying secondary market prices.

Back in 97 I got shut out, so I watched most of game 4 at a bar near the Jake. Then I just snuck into the ballpark during the later innings.

It was a simpler time.

Game tics for a World Series are gonna be a bear -- especially if the Cubs make it --  but there's StubHub and a number of backdoor online sites that could get you a deal... the secondary question is: what's the best bar to watch the game, preferably downtown near Progressive.

If anyone needs a place to stay in Wrigleyville (specifically Addison/Southport), let me know and we'll figure something out. The best Indians bar is a mile south (Field House), but the Wrigleyville atmosphere is going be a lot of fun, with tons of Ohio transplants braving the Cubs fans.

^^Hopefully they offer a watch party on the plaza like they did when the Cavs were in the finals.

I'm always partial to the old school E 9th / Prospect bars... Clevelander, Paninis, Lizard, etc.

We had a blast at Corner Alley yesterday.  As the Indians grew closer to pennant, CA was drawing E. 4th peds like a magnet.  TBS once again had a live camera at the Clevelander although ESPN had a camera crew at CA as well.

At the sports bar where I work hordes of obnoxious people have appeared out of the woodwork in recent weeks in brand-new Cubs regalia.  Reminds me of circa-1995 Indians fans.

^^Hopefully they offer a watch party on the plaza like they did when the Cavs were in the finals.

I'm pretty sure that I heard (on Fox8) that they will be opening up Progressive field, during away games, for a watch party!

I got my World Series tickets, no charge. ;)

I disagree slightly. I felt coming into this season (and actually last season as well) that with the rotation this team had, the playoffs were a strong possibility and that the roster was built for postseason success. The MLB playoffs are always a crapshoot, but I always believed that the ingredients for a deep run were there. What changed for the Tribe was losing two of their top arms and that made me less confident. Miller has essentially pitched as many important innings as either Carrasco or Salazar would have, so the Tribe acquiring and using him in the way that they have is what has unexpectedly helped ease the loss of the Tribe's front-end starters. But beyond that, as with whenever any underdog* advances to the World Series, I think there has been a decent amount of good fortune in how things have played out this postseason for the Tribe.

However, as a fan of all Cleveland teams, the house money comment was more in regards to breaking the championship streak. In the past, it was hard to be excited over successful Cleveland teams that didn't finish the job. Now that the Cavs have broken the citywide curse, it's easier to sit back and enjoy runs like these.

*IMO, the Tribe became an underdog to both Boston and Toronto by virtue of not having Carrasco and Salazar.

I'm disappointed in the trajectory the organization has taken with Chief Wahoo this post season. Including this talk of having Charlie Sheen as Wild Thing throw out the first pitch. It makes me question the long term plans of the Dolans for the team in general. I don't buy this as a last hurrah for the Chief until they really go into transition. This is like sell the team and let someone else deal with it, or screw it we'll deal with it when we move the team.

There was no talk from the team about Sheen AFAIK, just from tweeters.

As for the logo, the Dolans have always been adamant about keeping the Chief in some role and MLB has now publicly backed them.  Did you notice what uniforms they wore in Toronto?

(yep, this is what media in civilized countries do, they have a world view!)...

And in a nation of 60 million they just might want to attract clicks in a nation of 300 million.    :)

And yet continental Europe's 300 million is just 25 miles away... Still, my Ukrainian wife and our German friend said they never felt so isolated from world news until they moved to the USA. Even my wife's brother in Ukraine heard on the Ukrainian news about the Cavs winning the championship. I'm curious if the Indians' championship will also be reported on their news? ;)

MLB's comments on the lawsuit backed the use of the name Indians (100yrs of use etc). They did not explicitly back Chief Wahoo. I did see what uniforms they were using, and the merchandise they had up after winning the pennant (few non-Wahoo options). That is what brought this on.

There was no talk from the team about Sheen AFAIK, just from tweeters.

What does Charlie Sheen throwing first pitch have to do with Chief Wahoo and whether Indians are keeping that logo or not?

Charlie Sheen as Wild Thing is tied to the movies which are tied to the imagery of Chief Wahoo exclusively. I saw two people that report on the Indians post the Wild Thing rumor, so I gave it a bit of credence.

I've long championed the Guardians name and imagery as a potential replacement, but I believe that keeping Indians is a decent compromise that is friendly to the many fans that reject a change. I believe that particular compromise is less likely to be achieved the longer Chief Wahoo remains. My guess is that people in charge of the brand have some sense of this as well, but also I'm sure have consumer feedback data that scares the bejeezus out of them. That leads me to my thoughts above.

Completely disagree.  Yes Charlie Sheen is tied to a movie about the Indians, but the movie is about the Indians, not Chief Wahoo.  They could name Charlie Sheen GM of the team (please no) and that would have nothing to do with promotion or not of Chief Wahoo.  By your logic, any of the old-timers they trot out to toss the first pitch can be deemed an endorsement of Chief Wahoo.

Completely disagree.  Yes Charlie Sheen is tied to a movie about the Indians, but the movie is about the Indians, not Chief Wahoo.

Anyone else remember the fan-extras in ML dressing up in feathered headdresses and warpaint, and how there was zero controversy about this?  Also Bob Uecker's puns as Harry Doyle?

This all brewed up again because a few of the professionally offended noted the Indians playing the Braves in the 1995 series and saw a chance to make headlines.

What percent of the Continent speaks English, though?

Most of it. It's the international language of business.

So it looks like it's going to be the Cubs. 176 total years since a championship! Helps both teams as neither solely bears the burden  and distraction of overcoming a long championship drought.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I'm already sick of the media fawning over the Cubs. Probably going to have to mute the broadcasts just like the Boston series.

I don't think they are fawning.  The Chicago ball club has been suffering longer than ours.  Cleveland has been to a World Series in your lifetime, Cubs fans cannot say that.

I do like that we are the "under dogs".  All, the pressure is on the Chicago.

i would seriously doubt europe or anywhere outside of the carribean and japan even knows what baseball is much less cares.

and the usa is far from myopic. for example, i can get scores and news for my argentine league boca juniors on my espn sports app. its constantly updated, which is far more expansive coverage than one article in one newspaper in england.

any news on if they have been able to tinker up bauers boo boo so he can pitch?
