You guys completely drifted away from the point.

The Indians are on the verge of setting winning history in the MLB. Those are records that go back 100+ years. There have been only two teams that have 17+ game win streaks since 1961.

You'd think most of Cleveland would want to experience this. Instead, it looks like most Clevelanders decided to head over to First Energy to watch the Browns continue to lose and lose they did. The Indians organization was on Twitter/Facebook begging fans to show up so Cleveland wouldn't have a half full stadium with a national eye for a close to historic event.

Argue what you want about their attendance for the season, these sets of home games should be selling out. The Indians are over 100 years old and this is their first 18 game win streak. It's not going to happen again for a long, long time. The Browns losing ways will likely happen again next week! (Hopefully not)

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

It was the home opener for the Browns, against a team from 115 miles away.  I'd bet 1/3 of the stadium were Steeler fans.

If the Browns keep winning, the fans will keep coming.  Otherwise, it will tail off quickly as the weather turns for the worst.

I've never seen the Browns beg for fans for a Thursday Night home game, as rare as they are for Cleveland. Even so when the Browns were in the middle of a horrific season. I think the Indians deserve better.

^And like a few of us said up thread, fans have come out this season. Games 16 and 17 of the streak drew 30k.

You may be right--but then again, if you look at the entire league most of the teams above us are from larger markets, and quite a few of them have less pro-sports options in the market.

Tribe fans will come through when it counts--I just hope there aren't mass sales to out-of-town fans again.

I'm trying to figure out why an 18-game win streak is not "when it counts". This has happened exactly once in the Indians 100+ year history and it's happening right now!

On to something worth discussing (IMO):

Zimmer likely out for the rest of the season due to his broken left hand

Bad news for the Tribe. Nonetheless, this streak has happened in the midst of injuries to 3 of our best players.

Because losing football is more entertaining than winning regular season baseball. ;)

19 in a row!!  18,000 there to see it - Geez...smh..

18k was disappointing last night, however, attendance hasn't been a problem this season. They'll get some big crowds this week.

Did you go?

^ Not to mention, a sellout at Progressive is 34,000. It's the 5th lowest capacity in the MLB. Some of our sellouts could've easily gotten an additional 2-3,000 and inflated that number. The important # is %of seats sold, and we're 15th there.

I mean...this perspective ignores that the team has removed thousands of seats in the last 7-8 years. More standing areas, more bar areas, lounges, etc.  The upper right field is a joke.

I long for the day when people stop whining about attendance. My gosh, the organization is making money, the players absolutely love playing for this organization, the ticket sales have jumped almost 50% over last year. The whole town is hooked and engaged, whether they are there or not. What is the big deal????

^I'm with you for the most part... But our average attendance DROPPED last night... In the midst of the most dominant 20-game stretch since Murderer's Row.

18K last night. History is being made. I'm tired of excuses while the rest of the nation wonders where are fans are.

Sorry, it's not whining but stating a fact.  There's no way a team of this high caliber, and we've been this way for most of Francona's tenure, and esp after last year's thriller playoffs/World Series, should be drawing 18K on a (then) 18-game winning streak.  Not only is it embarrassing for the City it sets up an owner either selling or moving the team --and don't talk to me about iron-clad leases, which are made to be broken.  The national media is going to start commenting on this and then you'll hear locals' routine '... they're picking on us' whine in full-throated harmony... Yeah it's nice that the team is making money off of TV revenues and team gear (sadly much of it is with that racist Chief Wahoo logo), but locals should embrace this team by putting butts in the seats.  I'm tired of the anti-Dolan excuse -- he's spending major $$ in a small market and Chris Antonetti has distinguished himself as one of the top GMs in the game... Hell, I've been to a game this season and I only live in Cleveland part-time.  You couldn't ask for a more accessible, more beautiful stadium in a vibrant downtown.

No excuse.

How many of you complaining about attendance have been at/have tickets to a game against Baltimore or Detroit?

Indians aren't going anywhere. There are other teams with less attendance and much worse TV ratings. With TV advertising and revenue sharing, I would bet that TV ratings are at least as important as attendance.

Anyway, If the Indians win tonight we'll get to see how Clevenger will do under pressure which is certainly not a bad thing going into the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong but I have feeling the Tribe will tie the Moneyball A's.

This season no, last season I saw them play the Tigers at Progressive. I repeatedly was one of the 5K in attendance back in the 80s and early 90s when they played at Muni.

Ugggh, stop caring about what everyone thinks. Geesh. Indians fans know how we love the team, the players, Tito and the front office have seen the remarkable uptick. They are happy here. I don't care what people in Provo, Utah think. Just enjoy the damn ride

By the way, the attendance in last years playoffs affforded Dolan the ability to go out and buy Encarnacion.  That's 8 extra games of sellouts.  Imagine what 81 games of almost 10k more per game afford them.  I just don't get it. If you are questioning the fan base, you just don't understand what it means to be a "fan".  I've been to four games this year, and I'm no less of a fan than a guy with season tickets. That person just has more time than me

I repeatedly was one of the 5K in attendance back in the 80s and early 90s when they played at Muni.

Me too.  And back then we dreamed of a day when we'd be this good and play in this kind of stadium.

Just gave me a flashback to 8 year old me running up and down those blue wood bleachers, like a little maniac and no one there to tell me, chill out kid. haha

Ugggh, stop telling people how to think. Not all of us can have just one cheerleader opinion on every Cleveland subject and it doesn't mean we're not enjoying the ride.

Used to spell out "Go Browns" in the upper deck seats. Made the ushers nuts. I feel bad now. Those poor guys would have to run up and down those concrete steps chasing two people.  :-D

Mr. Believeland is right though....

I'll be one of the XX,XXX in attendance tonight to hopefully see the Tribe tie the 2002 A's streak.

That we're not enjoying the ride. You're crazy. Especially where I live and who the Tribe swept over the weekend.

I don't know what to tell ya.  Everything he said was accurate.  Quit complaining and continue to enjoy the ride.  How's that?

I agree.  2nd highest local TV ratings, and largest y-o-y attendance increase in all of baseball.

You guys win the Interwebz...let's move on.

Do the Indians really have the 2nd highest TV ratings?  If so that is amazing.  I assume that NY is # 1.

We can start another thread about media and telecommunications if y'all would like... For now, let's talk about Cookie mowing down 9!

The top 4 MLB pitchers in strikeouts since Aug. 1: Corey Kluber 74; Chris Sale 67; Carlos Carrasco 66; Trevor Bauer 60. #tribefest

If the @Indians numbers were put up by a gamer, there would be muttering about cheat codes.  #streakthatcanvote #WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIndians

So where will Danny Salazar end up?  He obviously had the horrendous start last week (in Detroit? ... we win so much, I forget) where he only lasted 2/3s an inning and gave up 4 runs... Before his injury, he had pitched 6 lights-out games.  With Danny, it always seems to be his head more than his arm.  Will he make the post-season roster as a starter, reliever ... or at all?

How many of you complaining about attendance have been at/have tickets to a game against Baltimore or Detroit?

I'm going Sunday.  It's the soonest I could get up there with work/life the last couple weeks.

Undeniably the Cy Young frontrunner!!!

Real or not? It's time to appreciate the greatness of Indians' win streak

...

In our fast-paced world with iPhones to check and Instagrams to update and photos to message, our ability to sit back and soak in the everyday aspect of baseball has, to a certain degree, been lost. We tend to focus on the final result: Who wins the World Series.

I understand that. It is, after all, the goal of every team and every player. But what the Indians are doing is more impressive than winning a World Series.

I guess my plea is this: Let's admire greatness in the regular season the same way we admire greatness in the postseason. I know, I know: Nobody remembers the 2001 Mariners, the 2016 Warriors aren't the best team ever and the 2007 Patriots lost the game that mattered most. I can live with it. I just don't want to hear that this streak doesn't matter unless the Indians win the World Series. That's a sad way to view the world. It matters and it's awesome.

What an amazing way to get the 20th, a complete game shutout from Kluber. After tonight, he definitely has proven why he deserves the Cy Young. Also the last out was against Cabrera which almost seemed poetic as it signifies the future of the relationship between our two clubs. The days of Tigers dominance over the Tribe have come to an end.

The drive from Columbus to witness this historic game was truly worth it. Although I won't be able to see the Tribe possibly break the AL streak record Wednesday, I have a lot of confidence in their ability to keep this thing going. They are truly dominant over these past few weeks in a way the 2002 A's never were.

Watching the game last night on MLB I noticed the series opener with KC is the second regional option for tomorrow night. I would think it will likely be first if they win today. I loved MLB bumping out the Red Sox last night, I'm sure their legions of casual fans were confused as to why!  :-D :-D
