March 29, 200619 yr Another proud day to be an Indians Fan!!! Go Tribe and kudos to Dolan-Shapiro for this long term sign.
March 30, 200619 yr So, Phillips has been cut yet again. I know he hasn't done a whole lot in his time with us, despite being a lauded prospect for years, and perhaps it's because we really haven't demanded much from him, but how can one guy hit .241 in pre-season (Vazquez) and another hit .316 (Phillips) and the guy with the better numbers gets cut? I'm not really sure how that works. Sounds like Phillips will be traded by opening day.
March 30, 200619 yr first, i don't place much weight in spring training numbers. second, i have confidence in shapiro/wedge to make the correct personnel decisions

He's a cocky punk. first, i don't place much weight in spring training numbers. second, i have confidence in shapiro/wedge to make the correct personnel decisions I agree, everything they said 3 years ago has come true
March 31, 200619 yr So, who's got tickets for opening day at the Jake? I'm thinking about taking some Cincinnati friends to the Saturday game...it's been a while since they've seen a team that is actually playing for the post-season!
April 1, 200619 yr I'm going to the Pete Marovich Center Monday night if LSU wins........opps, wrong thread.
April 3, 200619 yr no matter what happens with today's opening day final score (its 3-3 rain delay as of this moment) it was cool to see the tribe bat muscle tonight. nice comeback. boy i hope cc is ok, we dont need the big lug on the dl after only his first start. yay baseball is back!
April 6, 200619 yr f-ing right we did! I just got my tix for saturday's game...it may snow, but that place will be bumpin!
April 6, 200619 yr My gf bought me tickets for sunday's game- I'm taking her to Cleveland for her first ever visit this weekend. So it is definitely my fault this weekend's weather will be unseasonably cold and crappy.
April 6, 200619 yr My gf bought me tickets for sunday's game- I'm taking her to Cleveland for her first ever visit this weekend. So it is definitely my fault this weekend's weather will be unseasonably cold and crappy. Well after yesterday mornings "white out" here in NYC ... you deserve it! Since Saturday, I think NYC has gone threw four different seasons!
April 6, 200619 yr True that, Straphanger...NYC and Cleveland weather are pretty much identical. Though, it would be nice if you could show the city off on a sunny, 60 degree April day... I hope you do as well showing your lady around during her first Cleveland visit as I did! If so, you'll be moving here in no time!
April 6, 200619 yr ^yep. one time when a weatherman on the local news we watch in the morning (nbc chris cimino ch4) was asked what he does when he cannot predict the weather he said something to the effect that, "we weatherpeople have a little cheat, if we aren't sure, we look at the weather in cleveland and thats how it will prob be here by tomorrow." i thought that was funny.
April 6, 200619 yr it's true though! when I was in high school and my girlfriend lived in Boston, it was pretty fair to say that whatever weather we had here on Monday, they'd have on Wednesday or Thursday. I guess there's a science to it, but whatever, my method was pretty sound too!
April 8, 200619 yr well my friends have tix so i'm going to shea for the mets-marlins today in the freakin rain. i do wanna go see the mets a few times this summer since this is the last season for the old shea stadium, but the weather is brutal, cold and rainy today -- ugh. i'd rather be indoors in nj for the cavs-nets game oh well.
April 8, 200619 yr ^its the last season for Shea?? I thought that they just announced that they are going to build a new stadium. I am confused..so they started construction long ago?
April 8, 200619 yr re the mets i am getting a bit more interested despite the weather since i found out the matchup is dan glavine vs dontrelle willis. i am waiting on the final call if we are going (its raining). re the new stadium i though the started it already my bad -- im not a mets fan obviously. this pr says it will be done for opening day 2009 season: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060406&content_id=1386865&vkey=pr_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym the new one is smaller and will go in the parking lot next door door. here's a mets link with great renderings of the new ballpark, it's supposed to evoke ebbets field a little bit. it looks nice but eh: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/nym/ballpark/newpark_images.jsp
April 9, 200619 yr ^ Nice to see they incorporated the ballpark with the surrounding neighborhood....NOT. How very un-New York like. It's a nice looking ballpark, but it reminds me more of the Meadowlands, in terms of its setting. No will confuse its surroundings with those at Fenway, Wrigley or even Yankee Stadium! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 10, 200619 yr ^ oh no its not in a setting like those places at all. to be fair its not really in any neighborhood -- its in a big park. i think they built it along with that other old world's fair stuff? not sure. the only non-park thing around it is a group of auto chop shops just east of it. heh. back to the tribe: five straight? a sweep of the twins? yessss. http://www.cleveland.com/sportsflash/tribe/index.ssf?/base/sports-10/114461367544300.xml&storylist=indians
April 10, 200619 yr I've been pretty much covering my entire weekend itinerary in various threads here...so to continue: went to yesterday's game which of course was totally awesome, but what's up with the lame attendance? A little chilly, sure, but bright sunshine and a chance for a sweep of the Twins? I was frankly a little embarrassed taking my Red-Sox fan gf there and then having to make all the noise myself. I could only point to the retired 455 so many times. But go tribe!
April 10, 200619 yr I agree that I was a little disappointed in the attendance on Saturday evening. We had about 5,000 more (25k+), but I was hosting some Cincinnati friends and from our perch in the upper deck, we could see lots of empty seats all around the deck. (see my pics in the photo board) On the bright side, we were able to move over to capture the setting sun with relative ease!
April 14, 200619 yr A pleasant surprise: The fans at Jacobs Field did their part as a record walk-up crowd of 8,510 turned out for the series finale. But despite forging a four-run lead against the Mariners and their ace-in-training Felix Hernandez, the Tribe was turned back down the stretch. Ben Broussard and Ronnie Belliard homered. Total attendance last night was 24,638, which is just under what they drew on Saturday evening (April 8th: 25,107).
April 14, 200619 yr ^I saw that too and it made me feel a little better...until I saw that the previous night's attendance (or was it Tuesday, I can't recall) was only 14k. That has to be close to the record low. Anyway, I guess the way the bullpen's been pitching, they deserved it. Man I feel so much better when they win.
April 14, 200619 yr I believe so. According to various web sites, the previous record was only 208 games by the Rockies. I'd guess that Fenway break's Cleveland's record someday though.
April 15, 200619 yr Its more fun to discuss the Indians when they don't lose 3 in a row. I hope Fausto has a great game today. He could be our No. 1 starter of the future.
April 15, 200619 yr I could only point to the retired 455 so many times. What an incredible stat that is! Our 90s run was such a fun time. Its really too bad that we didn't get a championship out of it. While 95 was our best team, we should have had that 97 crown. I was living in Peru at the time and did anything I could to catch the games. I listened to a few on short wave radio--I had to walk out into the desert to get reception. The games were broadcast on Radio Marti--the US-funded spanish language channel that pumps out pro-democracy propaganda to Cuba. I watched another game at the home of one of my students. I caught a few others standing outside the storefront window of an appliance and electronics store. I watched game seven at the home of a new-found friend who had a satellite hook-up. There are a lot of people in Tacna, Peru that know about the Cleveland Indians from the lengths I'd go to catch a game. Considering the previous 40-50 years of futility, it was really exciting to be an Indians fan back then. With our youth and the large supply of talent that we have in the minors, its hard not to be optimistic about the next few seasons. Go Tribe!
April 17, 200619 yr it's supposed to evoke ebbets field a little bit. Yes, that rounded outer wall, behind home plate, definitely evokes ebbets field; mimics it, exactly. Even though it'll still be in 'far off Queens' at least some of the old timers may be mollified, a tad; those who are still bitter that the Dodger's bolted Ebbets and Brooklyn for LA nearly 50 years ago.
April 17, 200619 yr I hope Fausto has a great game today. He could be our No. 1 starter of the future. He sure looked like it! Thanks for the cool image, Wimwar, of tuning into the tribe all the way from Peru. I love how easy it is to stay on top of things with the internet but it does take away some of the romance of finding the right bar or radio station overseas to listen to your game... And I definitely share your excitement for this current team even after yesterday's painful imitation of the last week of last season.

With our youth and the large supply of talent that we have in the minors, its hard not to be optimistic about the next few seasons. Go Tribe! Yeah, the 1990's were an awesome to be a Tribe fan. When you think about it almost every team in the Major Leagues tried to copy what the Indians did. I think they will be really exciting to watch this year ( and years to come). They have a very solid core that is signed for quite a few more years. Hopefully we can make the playoffs this year. Also, it is very good for downtown businesses when the Indians are winning.
April 17, 200619 yr Yeah, the 1990's were an awesome to be a Tribe fan. When you think about it almost every team in the Major Leagues tried to copy what the Indians did. I think the Astros came the closest in copying the Indians blueprint. Both teams signed their "kids" to long term deals in the early 90s, got new stadiums and had pretty good runs.
April 18, 200619 yr ^Well I hope they're different from the mid-90s in one important respect... AMEN TO THAT!!
April 19, 200619 yr 15-1 thwomping of the O's tonight...don't you just love it when a cleveland team beats up on a baltimore team?
April 19, 200619 yr 15-1 thwomping of the O's tonight...don't you just love it when a cleveland team beats up on a baltimore team? now do you guys really hate the whole city, or just modell and the ravens? Or is it a giant basket, like "pittsburg is a giant cesspool"
April 20, 200619 yr BTW, what was that train wreck ESPN 2 was showing at Camden Yards tonight? :-o eric wedge's worst managerial decision of the year: leaving westbrook in there. I can see leaving him in there to let him try and work his way out of it, but when it got to 7-6 with RISP, and you don't make the call to the bullpen....
April 20, 200619 yr and do what, call in Graves? Remind me why we invited that guy to camp and how he made the team? Didn't he do Ohio baseball enough harm last year?
April 20, 200619 yr and do what, call in Graves? Remind me why we invited that guy to camp and how he made the team? Didn't he do Ohio baseball enough harm last year? Any time you leave your starter in to give up 9 runs is bad decision.
April 20, 200619 yr I know...I was just venting about Graves. Westbrook will have his games like that. And when he does, he should get the hook right away.
April 20, 200619 yr I know...I was just venting about Graves. Westbrook will have his games like that. And when he does, he should get the hook right away. yeah, it only takes an inning or two to see if a ground ball pitcher has it going. Furthermore, given the adjustemts the O's made the second time through the line-up, it was pretty obvious that wedge deserved an ass hat. (second time through .OBS is one of my favorite stats)
May 1, 200619 yr you shouldn't have to remember that far back..... oh well, you can still light the wick
May 1, 200619 yr ESPN should stop broadcasting Indians games where Westbrook starts, thus I won't be inclined to watch. If the April 19th game was a train wreck, the 7th inning last night was someone dropping a bomb on the pitchers mound. When Nevin got over on Peralta, I thought I was back in the 1980s.
