Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Hit it like David Ortiz on the phone!

Maybe he needs to be angry at the plate more often. His batting average has been on a steady slide ever since his awesome April.

The return of the Kardiac Kids...baseball style!

Masteron on the bump today, you've gotta like their chances to get the sweep!

Just throw water and sunflower seeds on him!

whoa rayburn is having a day at the plate.

So I'm working away with the game on in the background and all of a sudden I hear the "Final Countdown" song by Europe. I'm thinking: "Already??"

Wow, that was a fast game! GO WINDIANS!

S W E E P !!!!

Masterburned!

I love it.

Indians are on neither the ESPN or SI MLB Homepages. How is that for lack of respect? Let's just keep flying under the radar and getting the job done.

.....and your point is?  or is this Cleveland defeatism?  Serious question.

I love it.

The other night, ESPN aired about 15 seconds of Indians coverage. I think it was the Giambi game winner with the final score noted. Others got more -- especially Boston and New York, of course.

But the Castro sentencing is live on all networks. Thanks a lot you idiots.

Respectable attendance last two days; still, not what it could or should be. I think things will climb steadily.

not to mention they talk about every breath that A-roid takes

waa - dont get me started on espn. seriously - the yankees have been in 4th place forever, why mention them at all? jeter's got a hangnail, so what?! but detroit, texas and oakland really dont get much notice either. ah well, get down to florida tribe and let ubaldo turn it up!

Wow, the silence here after last night's collapse against the Marlins is deafening. Worse is that Detroit and Baltimore won. So now we're three games out of the division lead and a half-game back in the wildcard chase.

I am just hoping they got it out of their system. On the other hand Fernandez's stuff is just dirty. We were not going to hit him.

On the bright side Ubaldo got it back together for 3 more innings  after being rattled in 1st after the blown double play. Unfortunately  his pitch count was blown.

Lets see what they do tonight.

Edit: nevermind about Ubaldo, I was thinking all 5 runs were in the first.

they are 8-2 over the last ten, how upset can you be?

Just bought my tickets for Tuesday.  Trying to hit at least one more game in the Detroit series.  There were lots of seats on Indians.com.  Not looking great for attendance.

Can't win them all.  But they really need to leave Miami with 2 out of 3.  That's not the type of team you want to be losing series to, particularly when you're trying to put together a nice run.

bourn and kipnis so far wow. hang on tribe!

winrar! miami scores in the ninth, but its not enough.

Perez looks like a real closer. For the first time in three years, I'm not wetting myself when he comes in to close a game. He's got a nasty slider working for him. What the heck was Aviles thinking. Baseball 101 tells you to get the sure out. This team is fun to watch.

I was at yesterday's game; about 20% or more of those in attendance were Indians fans.

Hopefully we'll be able to say the same thing about the upcoming games this week!

^ lol...i mean ugh.

a couple walks, but kaz has a 1-0 lead and a one hitter going today so far. getting to be time for the bats to wake up.

Wow, the Tigers might actually lose today.

a shutout - wow.

nice job by kaz and the cleanup crew over the last 3 innings.

The beat goes on!

And Ubaldo pushed back a game so Salazar will face the Tigers instead.  Our chances in that series just improved.

how are you supposed to make up games when the tigers are twelve and three since the break?  it is GD ridiculous.

EASILY the most important series of the season so far for any team. I am excited!

.....trying not to be pessimistic too, but do the Tigers even know how to lose anymore?

i don't think the tribe is as good as the tigers, though that doesn't mean they can't win the series.  This wild card race, however, will be very interesting.

historically, the tigers have begun to play their best ball around now.  And the tribe has fallen off the face of the earth after dominating the tigers earlier in the season (in '11 and '12).  Perhaps this year is different?  The manager has just about everything to do with how the club stays calm and together and we may have one of the best managers in the game right now.  Im glad jhonny peralta is finally out.  I couldnt stand him when he was on the tribe

White Sox couldn't sell their soul for a win.

d@mn you Perez...

And the Chris Perez legend grows....

It was fate. Perez has now blown saves on three August 5ths in a row! Thanks for making my last three B-days hell!

^Oh man, Chris Perez owes you a new car or something!  Happy birthday though.

Ugh, what a body blow. I really hope we can still manage a split. I was so hopped up all day with anticipation for this game/series.

Me too. I think I need to go visit Perez's dog and get blunted.....

Seriously though, I was thinking back to all of the critical moments in Cleveland sports history I can remember, and that's going back into the 70s with the Miracle of Richfield. That's my oldest sports memory. Sadly, none of those critical moments have had happy endings. Not one.

When Perez gave up the dinger, I just smiled and said to myself, "yep, this is how it supposed to happen here in Cleveland." I know that the season is far from done. But I've watched sports here since the decade after our last championship, so I've seen where this train goes: To the same place it always does. Heartbreak City.

^ you shoulda been an indoor soccer fan.

wait did you just say...get blunted?? lol!

One bad game does not this season make.

Can we just end the Carlos Santana as a full time catcher experiment too? He's a liability behind the plate. I like the kid but full time competent catcher just isn't going to happen. My 7 YO said something about catching like Santana does. I told him to please not watch Santana catch, watch Gomes instead.

Perez just picks the worst moments to implode. I was still hoping for a miracle in the bottom of the 9th. It wasn't meant to be.

Edit: Nice effort by Swish on the dive for the foul ball, too.

aww shucks.

well, just pick up the ball and bat and go right back at it tonight tribe.

im looking forward to it - best pitching matchup of the series.

Looking forward to it.  My first game of the season in attendance.  Should be a good one!

I'm not a huge fan of Chris Perez, but I think that Francona is at least partially to blame for running him out there for the third straight night and then letting him stay in.  Perez has been pretty solid lately, but his stuff was just not working last night.

edit: I'd like to see statistics for a closer who is fresh, versus one who is pitching his second straight day, versus one pitching his third straight day.  Supposedly relievers aren't supposed to go more than three days in a row, so Francona was walking that line by putting Perez in the game last night.

At this point, it appears that Detroit is just the better team both on paper and on the field. And they have the Indians number this year for what ever reason.

These two games have be a bit of an exorcism for me. I am just going to enjoy the rest of the season and the race for the wild card spot. I don't see us catching the Tigers unless they totally melt down. Lets get in the playoffs and get these young guys some post season experience.

hoping for a split with the last two games, but already ready to look foward to angels at home and twins away.

tampa bay and texas remain in the drivers seat for wildcard so far.

kluber's out? ugh. hopefully he'll be ok and he misses 2-3 starts at worst.

maybe Cleveland fans are just smarter than everyone gives them credit for.  Letting optimism build and then underperforming in big moments is what fans have been accustomed to.  Now we are asking why the stadium wasnt full the last couple of nights?  Well, from a tribe fan standpoint, its almost unwatchable.  Not scoring, then getting stomped with a big inning.

There needs to be a point where as indians fans go to the ballpark and expect to win every night, instead of "hope we win" every night.  Thats when the seats will fill up.  This year is a good start, but cant sell the shop and give up in the next couple years, need to keep building.
