Yes, they looked good today. What, 5 guys with at least 2 hits?

Santana went 0-5 though. Indians can't have their DH batting under 200.

Guardians it is! The font and logo either need some tweaking, or will take a while to grow on me, but the name is a winner.

There were other good options, but I've always though this was the way to go. I'm happy its over. Let's move past it. I'm here for Baseball, and I'm here for Cleveland.

Agreed.  There are no doubts about the strength of Indians' rotation, yet still concerns whether they will receive adequate run support.  Even in yesterday's 4-1 win, the PD's Paul Hoynes noted the Punch 'N Judy method we had to use in order to manufacture runs, save Kipnis' solo insurance HR bomb late in the game, on top of the fact that Indians struck out a whopping 11 times.  Today though, obviously the whole club had it going on.

I'll take it, even though the DEVIL Rays suck. At the rate Santana is batting, might as well let the pitcher bat!

New year, new poll, I'm voting the same as last year... :(

Good night for Cleveland in Detroit last night. Cavs go up 3-0 on the Pistons and the Indians beat Verlander, 2-1. Great pitching performance by Tomlin.

This team has the capability of having a low 90s wins type of a season. I think the pieces fall into place for once and that ends up happening.

On a separate note, Brantley should be returning soon which will help tremendously.

They take the first two from Detroit. They won 10-1 today. Kluber pitched a two hitter.

The Indians have won a series in Detroit, gave Kluber lots of run support, and we're now above .500 in April (having already exceeded the total number of wins in April 2015). All things not typical of this Indians team, but I like it

and check this out - yikes!

HARD SMASH

In the seventh inning, Miguel Cabrera hit a hard grounder to short that MLB StatCast measured at 107 mph. Indians SS Francisco Lindor fielded the short hop, but was knocked over backward. He scrambled to his feet and threw Cabrera out before breaking out into relieved laughter.

"I have no idea if he did a great job of staying in front of that ball or if he just didn't have time to move," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "Miggy killed that ball."

That was a hell of a smash by Cabrera. And Lindor came up laughing. I don't think he was relieved. He just loves playing baseball and appreciates an all-time great like Cabrera.

Geez, with this pitching staff, just a little bit more hitting by the Tribe will immediately translate into winning. It already has resulted in a better April than the last three.

Indians Look to Follow Mets’ Lead

Extra Bases

By TYLER KEPNER APRIL 23, 2016

When the Cleveland Indians hosted the Mets last weekend, they saw the kind of team they want to be. The Mets reached the last World Series with a group of young, hard-throwing, right-handed starters who have yet to reach free agency. If the Indians get there this fall, it will be for the same reason.

“It’s going to be around our starting pitching,” General Manager Mike Chernoff said. “I think when you look at the success the Mets had last year, you can see that that can be successful. You read the fans’ reaction or the media’s reaction to ‘Do you have to trade a starter to balance your team more?’ What we saw last year with the Mets was no, you don’t have to do that.”

Tribe sweeps the Motor City Kitties, but lose Carrasco to a groin pull.

Great, clutch series for the Tribe in Motown - they needed to get the monkey off their back with Detroit - and now, we've changed the narrative of a losing April and having to come from way behind - (I know, there's a week left in April...)  And the way KC has started, we're going to have to stay fairly hot

Lindor wins every game. He has more fun than anybody on the field.

And the way KC has started, we're going to have to stay fairly hot

Sucks to have the reigning champs in our division.  But they came out of nowhere and we can too.  This team should clean up in the playoffs.  And hitting like this, plus Brantley, should be enough offense to get there.

I'm actually a little bit relieved that Carrasco is not out for longer than 4 to 6 weeks. I was scared he might have been gone for the season.

Why do we nearly always lose to the Twins???

When "wins" is part of your name, it's tough to lose...

Congrats to the Indians for being in first place BEFORE June! And if you really want to be impressed, check out Salazar's all-star quality pitching numbers.

First time being in sole possession of 1st place since July 2, 2013

Good crowd at the game today. There were a ton of walk ups, including myself.

First place didn't last long thanks to poor pitching and, worse, to no clutch hitting. Several runners in scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings and none scored. Sigh.

No excuses, but at least it was against the 2nd best bullpen in MLB

^ I'm now jealous I didn' t get to help build this.

That was a good game last night. I'm glad the nation got to see the Tribe beat up the Royals. Now we have to protect first place by taking this afternoon's game.

And we did. The Tribe outscored KC 20-2 in the last three games.

This team is for real. Going to be a fun summer. Go Tribe!

This team is also our best hope for a title this year. Not sure it counts if there isn't a quorum of fans to witness it, though.

There will be. A lot of dejected people are about to divert their heart broken selves solely to the Indians.

They'll show up in October like they always do!

Of course it would count, in fact there are only three championships that could be won that would technically break our drought. IMO, the Crunch, the Monsters, Stipe Miocic, etc. are all feathers in our city's cap, but they don't end our 52 year "curse."

But I'm actually forming a new worst-case possibility for the Indians: They'll win the AL Central and get to the World Series, giving everybody in this town a new hope. Once in the World Series, they will meet the Cubs, and you guessed it, that series will go 7 and we'll have front row seats as another long streak that isn't ours is broken. I mean, that's the only way the Indians success this year can logically play out.

Obviously I hope you're wrong (well, not about the Indians in the WS of course)... Don't forget our manager is the ultimate curse buster: Terry Francona broke the Curse of the Bambino -- the BoSox hadn't won the WS after trading Babe Ruth in, what, 1918?

On a more mundane level, the acquisition of Mike Napoli has been HUGE. His bat in the middle of the lineup has stabilized our hitting attack by taking pressure off of other guys... And obviously Lindor hitting and speed on the bases has been another major lift to the offense...

... It's all good for the Tribe.  Just keep on mowing down AL Central opponents... even maybe the (worst in the MLB) Twins once and a while.

^ How is it that we have more losses against the Twins than we do against the rest of the AL Central combined?

Looking forward to our 1-month-long baseball season to start soon. I think the Indians will be good until the Browns' training camp makes them disappear again.

I disagree with that. As long as they stay in contention and look legit, people will show up. Just look at 2007.

It's like Minnesota has a hex on the Indians... weird.

Baseball's a funny sport.

If they start showing some serious dominance and it's clear that they're going to win the AL Central, this might be a possibility. But if they're just hanging around, I don't know. The Tribe have had some clubs in recent years that have looked decent and hung around into August, but the fans didn't turn out.

That said, in my personal opinion, as I've said I do think that this team has the pieces to really assert themselves in the division and maybe put some daylight between themselves and 2nd place in the next few months.

I disagree with that. As long as they stay in contention and look legit, people will show up. Just look at 2007.

You may be right, and my comment was intended more as an over-exaggeration for purposes of humor. Maybe not LOL humor, but... :)

^ I know, I know. But it's sadly true for a lot of people in this town and I hate that the Browns have such loyalty despite being a pathetic, losing franchise.

Because people like me (ages 40 and older) remember when they weren't and how exciting those years were when we were young. We remember how our families and friends and the entire city was united by them for decades. We keep hoping for the return of those feelings, which really isn't possible because we're older and made more cynical by our years and experiences. But few things bring back those good memories like the start of Browns training camp when anything is possible, however fleeting that hope might be. By the time we realize the Browns aren't going to be any good (again), baseball's regular season has ended.

^ And I suppose I'll always feel similarly about the Indians, having grown up in the '90s.
