September 8, 20177 yr I don't follow them anymore. I'm still mad they traded Cliff Lee. They got Carrasco in the Cliff Lee deal. Cliff being a Cy Young winner on a losing team was no good...this was an example of good prospecting by the front office. We are in a position to win a World Series because of that trade They traded CC Sabathia too. Two Cy YOungs. Dolans don't want to win, only save money. Also, beer is too expensive. Only in Cleveland.
September 8, 20177 yr Got Brantley for Sabathia. It was a fire sale year. It wasn't working, have to trade guys and get assets And screw those guys. We have our own cy young now...gonna be a two time winner after this year. We don't need those washed up has beens
September 8, 20177 yr Also, beer is too expensive. Only in Cleveland. Uhhh...Cleveland is among the bottom 5 in beer prices per oz in all of MLB. Very Stable Genius

September 8, 20177 yr NO, your wrong my limearita cost me $7. I should be able too get 3 at that price. Also parking is to difficult. Also CC is in his prime now and would get us a championship. Dolans dont like to win, only take our money.
September 8, 20177 yr Oops. Got hooked. Unfortunately, the fake AJ whining does exist with some of these miserable curmudgeons

September 11, 20177 yr So great to be an Indians fan these days! 18 in a row - unbelievable. Have to say , however, 21,00 attendance ?? I don't want to hear about it being a Sunday night. Just really disappointing.
September 11, 20177 yr WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWINDIANS!!! This is truly amazing. 1 ahead of Houston, and 5 back from Los Angeles. I never thought we would get close to either of these teams. A first round against the wild card (possibly Minnesota?) would be great as we watch Boston and Houston duke it out at the 2 and 3 seeds. Also they end their regular seasons playing each other in a four game series (possibly 9 games in a row against each other). If we can make our way to the WS again, our record actually matters now as well thanks to the rule change. Keep it up Tribe! /\ Lets not drag this historic moment down with even more attendance talk (which has drastically improved and will continue to do so) with very high local TV ratings (7.52 on the Neilson). http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2017/07/17/Media/MLB-ratings.aspx Anecdotally, my dorm floor (OSU) showed a lot more interested in the Tribe game/win streak than the Browns game today (a lot of Cleveland faithful here).
September 11, 20177 yr And now a talent-depleted Tigers team comes to town. If they can continue to have fun and play loose (and walk Cabrera every time), they should sweep the Tigers (again). September 11, 20177 yr Meanwhile ... WTF happened to LA?! It's unbelievable. Some pundits had been speculating whether the Dodgers could break Seattle's 116-win record ... not now, of course. I can't fathom how a team as dominant as LA has lost 15 of 16 and are currently riding a 10-game losing streak. Remember when, up until late May of this season, Terry Francona's Indians hadn't lost more than 3 games in a row for about a season and a half, and when they lost 4 games in May (which they haven't duplicated since) it was like the end of the world here. Can you imagine how locals would be pulling their hair out if the Tribe lost 10 straight? Fortunately while the Indians are in a total winning zone and are the hottest, most dangerous team heading into October, a number of playoff competitors are floundering, although none as bad as the Dodgers. Houston has really cooled off and now our surging Indians now lead the Astros by 1-game for the AL's best record (which would give us a short bye and allow us to face the Wild Card winner). Boston of course has cooled off, overall, and we now lead them by 6; and who knows when, and how hard, the MLB will smack those dirty Sox hard for high-tech Spygate. That's got to be the elephant in the room for the Red Sauks and their annoying NE fans.
September 11, 20177 yr And yet LA and Boston are on Espn through Wednesday. Such booshit Cleveland needs to support the Tribe more. It really sucks when the 1-15 Browns sell out but the 87-56 Indians are begging people on Facebook/Twitter to come to a nationally televised game with a 17-game win streak on the line. I can't blame ESPN for going after ratings. Cleveland deserves what it gets on this front. How many terrible seasons do the Browns have to have before the region wakes up to the Tribe? Congrats to the Browns for almost beating the Steelers. Is there an "almost win" column in the standings?

September 11, 20177 yr Almost 31k Friday and Saturday. I wish there were more people last night; however, attendance hasn't been a problem this year. You don't go from 19k to 30k in one season.
September 11, 20177 yr Glad attendance is trending up - but: fact: only 5 teams in baseball have lower average attendance per game . If you want to brag about that I'm not impressed - we can do better.

I said the upper decks were full on Friday/Saturday. You're also discounting the fact that a lot of people buy cheap upper deck tickets and hang out at the new bars.
September 11, 20177 yr Glad attendance is trending up - but: fact: only 5 teams in baseball have lower average attendance per game . If you want to brag about that I'm not impressed - we can do better. We're about to pass three more teams in the season attendance rankings. Building the attendance numbers isn't done over one season. Why are so many people clueless about how this works? Hitting the 2mil is a major milestone for the franchise and a huge increase from last season. Next season we'll be around 2.2 - 2.4 million and so on.
September 11, 20177 yr ^ Not to mention, a sellout at Progressive is 34,000. It's the 5th lowest capacity in the MLB. Some of our sellouts could've easily gotten an additional 2-3,000 and inflated that number. The important # is %of seats sold, and we're 15th there.

If you want to brag about that I'm not impressed - we can do better. not that it matters, but tribe is actually better than 6...and we should just about hit 25K-30K the rest of the season, which realistically will put the attendance around 19th or 20th. The Dolans will absolutely take that. You want to show improvement...fan bases need to be rebuilt and sustained...and Rome wasnt built in a night. Another deep playoff run this year and more season tickets will get gobbled up for next year. The indians, the fans, and the staidum are all doing just fine
September 11, 20177 yr Again, you don't go from 19k for the last 3 years to 30k in one season. Yes, last nights attendance was only 21,000+, but don't forget yesterdays game was suppose to be a 1:10pm start and was moved to prime time at the last minute. So, how many people who had tickets, or wanted to go to a day game had to forgo attending the night game because of the last minute change. We will never know, but I bet if the game would have stayed a day game, the crowd who have been over 30k.

I don't care about the entire season, I get that people were skeptical in May and June. The Indians are on the verge of history right now and yet everyone filled up First Energy for another "almost win". I don't get it... This team went to Game 7 and lost in extra-innings for what people nationally were saying was one of the more memorable and exciting World Series in memory. Yes we struggled consistency-wise in April, May and into June, but our track record, esp under Tito, a lock future HOFer, plus our additions, like Encarnacion, should have been confidence enough that we were playoff bound -- likely as a division winner.. I'm not upset with our attendance and am very pleased that it is way up over last year. That said, last year I believe only Tampa Bay had less regular season attendance and, this year, someone noted we are 5th from the bottom attendance-wise. That does seem odd esp when considerably lesser teams like Minnesota are, and have been, packing 'em in night after night whereas we here in Cleveland see a +20K crowd as a good night. I'm glad the Tribe has high FSO ratings, but there is still a lingering resistance among fans to attend games, at least during the regular season -- I guess there's still some anger at the Dolans for being cheap, although recent moves, like EE, Jay Bruce, Joe Smith, and others, belies this premise... we know the Indians will sell out in the playoffs as any team should.
September 11, 20177 yr A couple 30k crowds this week and the Indians will probably pass Philly, Baltimore and Minnseota.
At $26, I had seats in the outfield bought by a non-profit that I'm sure got some sort of discount. I couldn't even see the ball. Everyone would be cheering and I couldn't even see what was going on. Even if the stadium were bigger, I don't see how those extra seats would provide a good experience for people in nose-bleed, far away seats. The answer seems simple to me; just raise the prices if there's that much of a demand and it reaches full capacity. They have every right to look at trends and raise their prices if its necessary. People will pay it if its warranted. Plus, they make so much money off of the wonderful food and beer and the mark-up on it, I just don't see why we're even talking about this. Much of the attendance issues can be attributed to the fact that Cleveland is just a mid-size city. There isn't going to be as much of a demand for tickets as a city like NYC or Chicago because there just isn't as many local citizens who care to buy tickets and go out of their way to deal with downtown during that cluster-f*ck. That doesn't in any way reflect the talent of the teams or the sense of local pride, though. The majority of people everywhere watch local games at home or at local bars/restaurants.

We're not 5th from the bottom, that position belongs to the Reds. The three teams currently right ahead of the Tribe are all trending down. We'll finish in the 21st spot this year. Next year we should fall somewhere between 15-18. For those interested, here are the actual rankings: http://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance
September 11, 20177 yr This is more of an intangible aspect of the discussion, but this is the most attention I have scene the Indians get among the younger audience/fan base (those who don't remember the 97 World Series). We kept hearing how great the 90's were, and how they sold out 455 straight, and how great it was to be a Tribe fan then. Its fine to acknowledge how great Cleveland and the Tribe had it, but it also came with an attitude of it won't be like that again. It was an almost underlying sense of defeat. This could be attributed to many things that often circle around the often debated/discussed topic of Cleveland's self image. Now, finally there is a mindset that we are and will be great again (the Tribe and Cleveland). The change in attitude regarding the city, and its sports teams, has propelled younger generations to follow the Tribe in ways and at rates I haven't scene before. People rep Cleveland proudly like I haven't scene before. You can feel the civic and team pride when talking with someone about Cleveland (this is my personal observation though). Bottom line is that older Tribe fans (and many Clevelanders as well) need to stop being so dam negative. It has driven away future fans, only exacerbating the problem. The narrative is changing now though, so lets not try and drag it back to where it once was. Maybe our optimism is unfounded, and ultimately foolish, but defending this city and it teams (and all the baggage that goes along with it) to older generations or outsiders it tiring. Breaking down the old Cleveland archetype is one of the best things people can do for this city and its teams. TL;DR - Stay positive, its what the Tribe and this city needs! I apologize for my rant. Cookie is throwing against the Kitties tonight. He is 2-0 with an .78 ERA over the last three starts. Lets keep the streak going! ROLL TRIBE!
September 11, 20177 yr ^^ Great points. My partner and I have season tickets and just this week I was mentioning to her how I feel like an old man at Tribe games. I'm 48. Admittedly, we always use the standing areas (despite having seats), so it does mean a younger crowd around us, but although MLB overall has an aging fanbase issue, I don't see that being as much of an issue at the Indians. My hovercraft is full of eels

September 11, 20177 yr I hate going to baseball games -- except for postseason (or if I get invited to a suite). I went to opening day this year and haven't been back since. And I'll go to most of the postseason games at Progressive Field. Postseason baseball is awesome. The regular season? I spend my evenings at home with the family or working at home (or adding to my UO posting!), and keep the volume down on the TV during the game in the background and hit the DVR when something happens. See you at Progressive Field in a few weeks! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
