April 11, 20187 yr Come on. I’ve seen those folks for 20 years. They stand their with signs and do harmless chants that fit their agenda. They don’t yell “F you” over and over again and grab their crotches If you ever get a chance to talk to Bob Roche, the leader of the anti-Wahoo movement, he is a genuinely sweet and well-spoken man. While neither of us would convince the other, I would ask what has changed since 1989, when "Major League" came out. IIRC it garnered zero protests. My answer to that question is we've become more thin skinned as a people, to the point of seeking "offense" when none exists. This has become a virtue to some. This is toxic in a pluralistic society and we are seeing those poisonous results. This is as good a place to push back as any. This is what i dont understand. Who cares if we have become thin skinned? i think also think its presumptuous to say there is no offense. There are two groups here: There are actual native americans who are indeed offended (AND YES, i also understand that there are native americans who are NOT offended), and there is the vocal crowd that shows empathy toward the offended group. For the most part, the Pro-wahoo crowd hates the latter more than the former. Empathy is a fine quality to have. Being able to listen and understand why someone feels the way they do doesnt make us thin skinned. It actually makes us smarter.
April 11, 20187 yr In the end, the Pro-Wahoo crowd really aren't Pro-Wahoo. They're just looking for a reason to be pissed off, blame Obama or libtards for this oh-so-unfair overly politically correct world, and justify ugly behavior. We all know the type.

Few people alive today grew up with Cowboys & Indians as a popular genre. In 1989, that proportion was different. I'll grant a non-racist original intent for the team name and logo, but throughout its existence it has clearly traded on old timey anti-Native sentiments. Those sentiments are pretty much gone now.
April 13, 20187 yr except the opposing camp is in wrong, thats why they are stooping lower and cursing at them. the whole thing is moot anyway because wahoo is going away. No he's not. The fans won't allow it to. It's become a point of principle to a significant part of the fan base, and no one does stubborn like a Cleveland fan. They're also not wrong. Just because a small group decides something is "offensive" doesn't make it so. yes wahoo most certainly is going away. off the uniforms is gone. and that because of far more than the small group of protestors at the games. dont be surprized when they go after the indians team name too.
April 23, 20187 yr Sad news. Davey Nelson, former Cleveland Indians player, coach, broadcaster, dies at 73 CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Cleveland Indians player, coach and broadcaster Davey Nelson has died after a long illness. June 18, 20186 yr carrasco has some luck. hit in the elbow by a ball and now on the dl. and who knows when miller can come back? whoa the pain of those pitching woes. even brandon guyer pitched the other day lol.
June 24, 20186 yr In this series vs Detroit, the Indians have outscored the Tigers 26-3. And the Tribe has outscored the opposition 54-9 in this 7-game winning streak! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 12, 20186 yr Indians up 17-0 on the Reds in the 4th. Can the bullpen blow this lead? I say there’s a 30% chance! :)
July 19, 20186 yr Ken Rosenthal reporting that Brad Hand is on the way to the Indians, Mejia to SD. I believe Hand just signed a new contract. I like the move.

August 14, 20186 yr I loved the thought of having Martin on this team for the stretch run and October. But I really loved the idea of having Trevor Bauer here even more..... @ZackMeisel 25m25 minutes ago Trevor Bauer has a small stress fracture in his leg. He’s headed to the disabled list. No timetable for a return yet. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 1, 20186 yr The article on ESPN had an odd quote from Jays manager Josh Gibbons saying he was high strung but he'd miss him. What a weird thing to say about somebody out the door. With this move Ramirez is moving to second base and Donaldson takes third.
September 10, 20186 yr this yo yo indians team is really aggravating. im very curious to see how they play the rays for this this 3 game set. they are a nice challenging matchup for the tribe. its kluber, justin beiber and carrassco. the rest of the season is vs total loser teams and call ups, outside of a short red sox series. maybe that will give francona time to shore it up a bit. maybe donaldson can ease in and will help? i like how the tribe snuck him in in time to be eligible for post season. that pissed off the other playoff teams — very clever manuevering lol.

Tribe is slinking just under the radar, and I prefer that. Last year the universe seemed out of balance because we were favored over the Yankees. It's just feels better that we are back to being the underdogs.
September 11, 20186 yr i think you are right but i think this rays series is the last pivotal test series of the season, so it seems important for that purpose. i didnt catch any of it, but i see kluber immediately got knocked around, we sent the pitching parade in, which did well, grew a lead, but then the rays walked off a win in the end. ugh. tough one.
September 11, 20186 yr i know its freakin hilarious — i love it. he may play tonight. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/yankees-red-sox-astros-reportedly-annoyed-over-indians-trade-for-josh-donaldson/amp/
September 12, 20186 yr bieber did great, 11 k’s and tribe pitching held the rays off the board, but they struggled on o as well. two impressive solo taters saved the day. donaldson went ofer but got wood on the ball for 3 of them and got his feet wet. lets see if king carrasco can shut them down tonight.
September 12, 20186 yr ^MRNYC I had a huge chuckle when I read the above post. It occured to me I would not have a clue what you were talking about if it were not for the fact that I have been a baseball fan for over 50 years. I could well imagine that some forum members are scratching their heads like I do when I attempt to decipher posts in the airport and airline threads. Go Tribe
September 16, 20186 yr ^ haha did you catch my rick manning reference in there? yeah but he got good wood on the ball was the constant refrain for rick always flys out at the warning track manning’s career. but donaldson finally did get more than good wood on the ball yesterday and smacked a home run as the indians clinched the central. congrats to the tribe — unfortunately the great news is a bit lost with all the browns hoopla this weekend isnt it? i see miller got some quality time today, so the tuning up continues. hopefully bauer can come back soon too.
September 27, 20186 yr Go Tribe! October 1, 20186 yr BTW Cleveland, in case you haven't noticed and based on sports talk radio haven't, your Indians just finished another successful regular season, ending 20 games above .500 and walking into the playoffs. October 5, 20186 yr Good read. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24792762/cleveland-indians-face-long-road-70-long-years-losing-october I quit reading after a few paragraphs when it became clear it was just another woe is me article about Cleveland sports. Same old tired bullshit. The media sure loves to remind us about past sports failures. Go get 'em Tribe!
October 5, 20186 yr I sure hope so.... Kluber really just isn’t the same Ace he once was. Hopefully the Tribe can get deeper than last year....
October 5, 20186 yr Remember how excited Cleveland got when one of our teams made the playoffs? I guess we are getting spoiled a little. That a good thing, right?
October 5, 20186 yr Kluber's last four playoff starts have been pretty bad. Here's hoping he gets another chance to turn it around.
October 8, 20186 yr Ouch Worst Columbus Day for Indians since 1492 Edited October 8, 20186 yr by KJP "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 8, 20186 yr This series was an absolute mis-match. Men against boys. I think it revealed the down-side to playing so much of the season against a weak division. Last season against the Yankees it hurt as I felt we were so much better than them. This time around I couldn’t find anyone who actually thought the Indians would seriously push the Astros. My hovercraft is full of eels
October 9, 20186 yr Here in South Florida we hardly ever get to see the Indians on TV unless it’s in the postseason. Today when they showed the starting pitcher I knew it was over before it began. In a must win game three this is not the guy that I would have chosen.

Clevinger went 5 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He had a good outing. It was our bullpen that gave up 10 runs. In hindsight putting Bauer in the bullpen was a bad idea.
October 9, 20186 yr You are correct I miss spoke. I was referring to Bauer not the starting pitcher. Edited October 9, 20186 yr by Florida Guy
October 9, 20186 yr Three straight years, the Indians have been eliminated by three straight losses in the postseason. Very Stable Genius
