Posted January 20, 201015 yr Mostly taken around Clintonville with my GAF LC-M 35mm (same as the Chinon CM) the day after Christmas. Brighton and High, all local businesses in this stretch. Clintonville Kitchen, some tattoo shop, SeaGull Bags, and Embassy Board Shop. Mural of the Columbus Skyline at the Gail Paris Discovery Park in front of Clinton Elementary School. Basketball hoop that I used to play on at recess every day back in elementary school at Clinton. Mooney's Mansion, b. 1913 on Walhalla Rd. Legend has it that Mooney killed his wife and kids, and hung himself from Walhalla bridge nearby. Someone here dug up some old info: http://www.ohioexploration.com/mooneysmansion.htm Sculpture I am particularly fond of on Walhalla Rd. Pipe leading into the Walhalla stream. Shot from the car at 12th and High. The Newport Music Hall. I know the guy who did that graffiti above the String Shoppe, too  A west-side house, on the Hilltop. Taken by a friend (the kid in the previous picture) from the car. Great lines. LeVeque tower, UrbanSurfin's former office. Also at 12th and High, I believe.

January 20, 201015 yr A west-side house, on the Hilltop. West Virtucky! Nice pics and welcome to the forum :) Stick around.
January 21, 201015 yr What happened to the String Shoppe? It must have closed while I was living in the 'Nati.
January 21, 201015 yr ^There are several empty storefronts along High between 15th and 10th; among them, Singing Dog Records, Robek's and a fairly established-looking gift shop/bookstore. Don't know is some of this is seasonal, but I wonder if it's Gateway rents swamping some of the more marginal businesses. Probably a combination of these factors and more.
January 21, 201015 yr Singin' Dog moved to Chittenden and High. String Shoppe just closed last year, unfortunately.
January 21, 201015 yr ^That was Singing Dog's longtime location. There's a sign posted announcing their "move to cyberspace." That's really the result of larger economic trends. Still, the brick and mortar store made a nice anchor to my favorite commercial block on Campus.
January 21, 201015 yr A Robek's closed? I thought those were pretty solid businesses. Maybe kids are eating more ramen.

Probably not; Gateway is failing too.

January 26, 201015 yr According to some news articles I've read, Campus Partners is losing money on it. I think that's why they're hesitating to develop the land around it. Some of the space in S. Campus Gateway is rent-free.
January 27, 201015 yr Rent free? For how long? I don't know. I guess it depends on how much OSU will help them in the future. OSU uses 80+ percent of the office space for various college departments and the art studios you see in the pedestrian alley are rent free and used by university students. Basically, OSU is filling in the space and providing the capital to keep the project above water. It's not really a market-driven project. The real benefit of the project is indirect / intangible. Prospective students are awe-struck when they see that on campus tours. It provides the illusion that University District/Weinland Park isn't so bad even though...well, its crack head central.
January 27, 201015 yr How can the crackheads sleep around all those howling drunk students? I've never smoked crack but I'd imagine it's hard for them to get sleep period lol

And I think it's like 2 dollar pitchers on Tuesday. They have some good specials.
