Posted January 21, 201015 yr I was just wondering if anyone is actually playing this game and how they feel about it if they do. In addition since this has an online element to it in which you can visit other peoples cities, trade with them, etc., I figured it would be nice to share information to add any urban Ohio people as friends in the game. For me personally I love the graphics of this game but I miss some aspects of Simcity 4 because you can't micromanage as much in Cities Xl at least not yet. They are constantly updating the game though and are always adding content so some of that might change and the trading aspect for commodities might overcome that aspect. Another thing I like about citiesxl is that you can build mega structures - you win a certain blueprint every week or so - and you have to allocate resources to build the buildings and it can take a minimum of 2 days sometimes weeks for these structures to actually get built. These are actual days not game days and is interesting seeing the building actually grow over time instead of simply putting up space and seeing something grow in matters of seconds or minutes. There is a lot more to the game and just wanted to start a thread about this game and any discussion about it. Also like I said earlier if you have an account feel free to add me my name on there is Cleveland. http://www.citiesxl.com/component/option,com_community/task,home/Itemid,131/?lang=en/ Anyway here are some pics (which look better in game then the screen shots)- This is my first city and only a few weeks in so don't judge me! lol
January 21, 201015 yr I purchased the game, and played it for about a month before I got tired of being nickel-and-dimed for improvements to the city. Mass transit outside of a bus? That'll cost you (real) money. Build one industrial site? Pollution for the entire city. Trading was haphazard at best.
January 21, 201015 yr Yea I wish it had more of the core of the simcity 4 with the graphics and some of the online concepts of this game. I'm just hoping that since they are continually adding content that they might fix it, the game even launched without any buses at all then added that like a month later. If they fix the mass transit I think it would still be a great game. The online trading has been working better lately and I have never really had any problems with my city and pollution even with my industrial sites. Maybe that was a problem and they fixed it. Also Johio - If you wanted just to try it they have an option where you can play online without purchasing the solo version of the game. You just have to pay the monthly rate - which is about $10. I first thought that you had to purchase the game then do the online but you do not have to and this is a cheap way to try out the game.
January 22, 201015 yr I pre ordered cities xl and as everyone one else has already mentioned, its a great game but could be better if it had transportation options. As is, I'd give the game a 7/10, with decent transportation added, a 9/10 would be fair. I really only play this game and flight simulator X.
January 24, 201015 yr I just bought the game in the box with all the other sim cities. I went to the best buy two blocks from me in the John Hancock tower and the cashier said they were selling alot of the SimCity box combos, so this game must be still running popular. I fired up Societies and ran it in the unlimited money mode. I was under the impression ALL the buildings would unlock. But looking at your screenshots, you have skyscrapers. How do i get those? and the wider streets?
January 27, 201015 yr Not shocking. You charge $$$ to play the enhanced version of the game (e.g. one that is actually worth playing), then charge $$$ to add items like rail and bus stops. -- Dear Mayors, First of all we want to thank you for your support since Cities XL was released in October of last year, and as far back as October 2007 for some of you. In early 2007 we decided to be those who would make a new offer to City Builder games fans. Right from the start Cities XL has always been an innovative project regarding its online dimension. Of course, trying something new always comes with a risk. Three months after the launch we have to admit that the subscription rate is lower than what we expected and therefore the Planet Offer is not sustainable. Not enough players decided to subscribe. Therefore, it is with deep regret that we decided to put an end to the Planet Offer as of March 8th 2010. It will no longer be possible to subscribe to the game starting Monday February 1st 2010. Nevertheless the Cities XL adventure goes on! Cities XL will evolve into a fully single player game. As soon as march the Bus will be added for free in the solo game. At the same time we also keep on working on new content and new features to keep on improving Cities XL. We do realize that some of you were real fans of the Planet Offer, and loved to be able to visit other player’s cities and trade tokens between players. There are simply not enough of us. Thank you again for your understanding and support. For more detailed information, read the FAQ here.
January 27, 201015 yr I think this is good news! They wanted way too much per month just to access certain features and to have the abilty to trade online. I'd much rather have the option to trade how I see fit.
