^Seems unusual to me.  I wish they would be more specific than "Northern Kentucky".  Interesting that the 3 contenders were NKY, Cincinnati, and Florida.  I sure hope they don't revisit that last one.

Anyone have any insight on why Ohio rejected job creation tax credits for Pure Romance?  Is this an unusual move by Ohio, or do these kind of deals often get rejected?

The deal with Pure Romance is not settled. They are negotiating through the media, just like Delta did.

So what is up with Inc Research, formerly Kendle? All of their Carew Tower space just went on the sublease market, 116,000 RSF.

Are they closing operations here, downsizing or moving?

Update on the Pure Romance situation.  It looks like all systems were go and then the tax credit was nixed by David Goodman, Director, Ohio Development Services Agency, who simply explained that he didnt think it was a good idea.  As a result Cincinnati stands to lose over 100 high paying jobs.  Thanks Columbus.

To put this in perspective, Kasich was reportedly offering Sears over $65,000 per employee to move to Columbus.  The same administration is now unwilling to offer less than $1,000 per employee to retain a homegrown Cincinnati company.

Cincinnati City Council backs Pure Romance in dispute with state

Chris Wetterich Staff reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati City Council approved a resolution on Wednesday backing Pure Romance in its request for job creation tax credits from the state of Ohio.

“This is the kind of company we should be fighting for,” said Councilwoman Laure Quinlivan, who sponsored the ordinance.

Quinlivan said that the director of the Ohio Development Services Agency had refused to give Pure Romance’s chief financial officer a statement in writing that it was not going to receive the requested tax credits.

Emails indicate city expected Ohio to back Pure Romance tax credits: EXCLUSIVE

Chris Wetterich Staff reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati economic development officials expected Pure Romance Inc. to receive tax help from the state of Ohio, according to emails obtained by the Cincinnati Business Courier through a public records request.

Chris Cicchinelli, CEO of the relationship-enhancement company, is now considering whether to take his company to Covington rather than Cincinnati after being spurned in his bid for job creation tax credits from Ohio.

Dems push state to help Pure Romance

09/16/13 at 2:15pm by Cindi Andrews

Cincinnati Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld and state Rep. Denise Driehaus will press the state to reconsider tax breaks for Pure Romance at a news conference Tuesday.

The two Democrats will speak at 10 a.m. outside 655 Plum St., the Downtown building where the $100 million-plus company was going to relocate its headquarters. Last week, City Council also asked the state to reconsider in a unanimous vote.

Pure Romance moving Downtown

Written by Cindi Andrews

Pure Romance is moving its headquarters to downtown Cincinnati despite being rejected for state tax credits.

“It didn’t come down to the government, it came down to being a good fit in the community,” CEO Chris Cicchinelli told The Enquirer exclusively Tuesday morning.

“We look forward to playing an active role in the continued resurgence of this region’s urban core and know that Pure Romance professionals will add to the dynamic and exciting growth being enjoyed in downtown Cincinnati,” he said in a statement.

The $100 million-plus company was pursued by economic development officials from Kentucky to Florida after the state of Ohio refused to give the company job creation tax credits to move to downtown Cincinnati. Cicchinelli met with Northern Kentucky officials last week about options in Covington, including RiverCenter. It’s not known what incentives Kentucky offered.

Cincinnati amps up tax credits to land Pure Romance: EXCLUSIVE

Chris Wetterich Staff reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

The city of Cincinnati doubled the value of its tax incentives to Pure Romance in luring the relationship enhancement product business downtown.

The city offered $353,204 in job creation tax credits over six years in its original proposal.

Kasich and Jobs Ohio dropped the ball.  No matter, we will just keep on keepin on in The Nati with or without you.

Kasich is not for Ohio, Kasich only interest is in Columbus and on occasion will throw a bone to the other areas in Ohio.  Just look how generous his offer was when he was trying to get Sears to relocate to Columbus.  He didn't do that when Chiquita was looking to relocate.  Then the rejection of Pure Romance was extremely obvious.  Kasich is a d**khead and needs to go away.  :shoot: Let's make sure we vote him out of office  :whip:

Kasich's overly-generous offer to Sears was mere political posturing because both he and Sears knew that they weren't actually going to move here. It also had the side effect of shaking down their current location for more money.

Huntington shops for new Cincinnati space

Tom Demeropolis - Reporter - Cincinnati Business Courier

Huntington National Bank, the region’s fourth-largest bank by deposits, is shopping for new Cincinnati office space.

Huntington is searching the central business district for about 60,000 square feet of space, or possibly more, according to commercial real estate experts. The bank’s lease at Fourth & Walnut Centre runs until 2015, but Huntington is checking out available space now as it looks to possibly consolidate from multiple locations.

An official with Huntington Bank said the company preferred not to comment at this time.

Would they be able to build the building fast enough to meet their needs?

Probably not. My guess is that they land at Atrium 2 or 525 Vine St., and that building gets renamed Huntington Center.

They want to be in the CBD financial district, not the Banks. They will get better, less costly, and more flexible leasing terms

in an existing building.

Sam Adams expanding its Cincinnati brewery: EXCLUSIVE

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Boston Beer Co. Inc. is expanding its Samuel Adams Brewery in Cincinnati’s West End.

According to documents filed with the Cincinnati Department of Planning and Building, the brewer is planning a 6,700-square-foot expansion. The contractor is listed as Cincinnati-based Reece-Campbell Inc. The building permit application applied for but not yet issued is for a “beer storage building addition.”

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2013/10/16/sam-adams-expanding-its-cincinnati.html

I hope part of the expansion is a tap room. One of their beers won a medal at the Great American Beer Festival earlier this month, and it was listed as being from the Cincinnati brewery (rather than PA or MA).

Tours would also be nice. I know the Brewery District has tried to get access to the building, but it isn't suited for tours for one reason or another. I know a few people have been given access, but it isn't very often. Regular tours would be cool.

It's official: Pure Romance signs lease for downtown Cincinnati HQ

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

After briefly flirting with a move across the river, Pure Romance signed a 10-year lease for nearly 30,000 square feet of space at 655 Plum St. in downtown Cincinnati.

The company, which sells relationship enhancement products, outgrew its Loveland location and wanted to move into the city of Cincinnati. The move will bring at least 60 jobs to downtown when Pure Romance starts to move in January 2014.

Catholic Health Partners on the hunt for massive office space: EXCLUSIVE

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Catholic Health Partners, the Cincinnati-based nonprofit that operates the largest health system in Ohio, has asked local developers to find a property that could accommodate a 350,000-square-foot office building – a massive structure that would be about double the size of its current headquarters, the Business Courier has learned.

CHP has outgrown its headquarters at 615 Elsinore Place, which is off Interstate 71 near the foot of Mount Adams, according to real estate sources. That property is owned by Elsinore Properties LP, an affiliate of Bill Ackerman’s Ackmor Properties Inc. There are two buildings on the 3.4-acre site, with about 170,000 square feet of office space in one nine-story tower.

GE Aviation receives its largest order of jet engines

A huge win for GE @ Evendale, with significant ramifications for the surrounding business community.  However, positive news like this will never grace the front page of any Enquirer (since such space is permanently cluttered by pics of either panhandlers, heroin addicts, or John Cranley).

It is good news for the company overall, but Evendale isn't going to get most of the work involved with this order. I do agree the Enquirer doesn't actually print important information.

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that a factory that once made artificial fat for P&G is now making biodiesel, which is often made from real fat (used fryer grease)?

I find it amusing that whatever process was needed to make that gross artificial fat is similar enough to the process that makes biodiesel.  What the hell were they trying to feed us?

Expect grease trap thefts from fast food restaurants to rise!
