February 22, 200718 yr You can get cable TV for about $11 a month but TW keeps it a secret. Can you elaborate? I'm not a big tv watcher, but if I'd known this, I would've had it for the last 5 years. We used to have this. It's called LifeLine. We got it because our TV reception was very bad, and my husband wanted to be able to watch Simpsons clearly every week. :) You basically get the local channels, History Channel, community access, Weather Channel and a few others. It's been over year since we've had it, so I can't remember everything with it. However, you do not get any music video channels, sports channels, comedy central, etc.
February 22, 200718 yr Thanks, Neville, it's pretty much just trees. Lifeline also has CitiCable so you can see the city clowncil meetings. (Roxanne Qualls & Tom Luken were more entertaining than pro wrestling) You get Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Cinti PBS. Dayton has lots of local history & NK has a lot of KY politics. They really put Cinti's station to shame. You get a lot of shopping & religion channels. You get all the local channels, a German/international channel (DWTV) & 12's Spanish broadcasts. & as XUMel said, the local access which any Hamilton CO resident can get on through Media Bridges. An UrbanOhio TV project would be pretty cool, if anybody is interested.
February 27, 200718 yr I think it's odd that: a) There is still a small regional Bell company like Cincinati Bell still in existence. b) DSL has just now reached parts of a major metro area. c) People believe there are actual good cable companies somewhere that customers love.
February 27, 200718 yr ^^I have no clue who it was MyTwoCents, but I believe he said it was a new cable box when the (different) guy came back and gave us another one. We discovered it almost immediately, wrapped it in a couple garbage bags and set it on the front porch. Maybe they came from the truck or warehouse? I forgot to tell you, I've forwarded your comments and action is being taken to prevent something like this from happening again.

And all of those business have ancillary business that will get your money one way or another......So to say there are "no" good cable company's is crazy talk! TWC is the best in the business...CBB is too small and antiquated to pose a real challenge. in addition, cincy isn't a premium market in Ohio for us.

March 1, 200718 yr We own so much crap even I can't name it all... And absolutely refuse to sell old stuff on iTunes bah !

I don't necessarily care what other Channels and markets TW has....don't mean to start a flame war I don't doubt that Cincy is a smaller market for Time Warner. Look at their competition. Most people here are going to go with the hometown Co. Cincinnati Bell owns the landlines, holds much of the cell-phone market, offers DSL (Zoomtown), and is launching a new city-wide wifi network. TW will have to knock Cincinnati Bell out of the picture for them to show face here.
March 1, 200718 yr TWC is the best in the business...CBB is too small and antiquated to pose a real challenge. in addition, cincy isn't a premium market in Ohio for us. I too find it hard to believe that Cincy wouldn't be a premium market for TWC in Ohio. If you were to say the US, then I would believe you. But who the hell is a 'premium market' in Ohio then if Cincy isn't?? Cbus is smaller and Cleveland's metro is also smaller/less affluent. I would guess that maybe TWC has accepted the fact that it will be EXTREMELY difficult to penetrate the Cincy market, especially with the continued success of Cincinnati Bell. Cincinnati Bell controls this market with good reason...they have a GREAT reputation, and continue to provide new/great services. Not to mention Cincinnatians are known for being VERY loyal to hometown companies...and has been known as a difficult market to enter as an outsider.
March 1, 200718 yr Cincinnati Bell would probably have to either merge, be acquired, or go bankrupt for Time Warner compete here.
March 1, 200718 yr Well thanks for telling me about my job!   Neville, Cincy isn't a premium market for us. Cleveland is a much larger market than Cinci. As stated earlier, Cleveland (the aquired adelphia cable company) is our third largest cable market, behind NYC & LA and ahead of Houston. Just like banks we cannot be everywhere. For instance we cannot operate in Atlanta, home of Turner/CNN. Or Philadelphia, Comcast HQ. From my earlier post: TWC Cinci only has about 250k customers to begin with, so they should be running a tight ship. It's not like its the Cleveland area with 2 million customers (not including Akron). All this will soon be turned into "Time Warner Cable NE Ohio or Cleveland" The logistics are still being hammered out. Cleveland has TWC , AOL & CNN (mostly medical as we broadcast almost all medical news information directly from Cleveland Clinic) sales offices. Detroit (potentially closing since the auto industry is in the toilet and speculation this will be relocating to Cleveland since Detroit is a Comcast city and with rampup/potential growth in the NE Ohio market on the horizon it makes since to move those things to Celve.) has Time Warner sales offices with representation of all brands, except the movie houses (Newline and Warner Bros.) Chicago & Toronto (HQ of Time Warner Canada) has a full offering of all Time Warner Companys sales offices.
March 1, 200718 yr Let's make a clarification. MyTwoSense is saying that Cleveland is a much larger market than Cincinnati for TIME WARNER'S market, not general marketing. I'm sure Columbus is a larger market than Cincinnati for Time Warner (correct, MTS?). I'm sure Columbus is a larger market than Cincinnati for Time Warner (correct, MTS?). Correct on both points! TWC "Mid Ohio" (which I cannot be 100%) has about 350-380k.

March 1, 200718 yr Chicago & Toronto (HQ of Time Warner Canada) has a full offering of all Time Warner Companys. In Chicago my choices are RCN and Comcast. It would be nice to have the choice of TW also.
March 1, 200718 yr Not to mention Cincinnatians are known for being VERY loyal to hometown companies...and has been known as a difficult market to enter as an outsider. I think you answered your own question from the Federated Dept Stores thread..... I must be an outsider to this Marshall Fields thing.....because I just don't see why soo many people care. Yeah, its a tough pill to swallow when a hometown place gets bought up, but it happens all the damn time!!! Is this sooo foreign for Chicagoans?? Don't get me wrong Chicago is one of my all time favorite places, but damn get off your high horse and suck it up!
March 1, 200718 yr ... TWC Cinci only has about 250k customers ... Not that it's close to Cincinnati Bell, but it looks like your TWC number may be off by about hundred-thousand & I'm not sure what amount the current subscribers were from when this was written ... We're leading the charge to bring a wide range of new information and entertainment services to more than 330,000 subscribers in Greater Cincinnati. http://www.timewarnercable.com/corporate/aboutus/careers/locations/ohcincin.html
March 1, 200718 yr Cinci Bell has approximately 2.1 Million hardwire access lines, ~200,000 ADSL Subscriber lines, and somewhere close around 1.5 million cellular subscribers. These are estimates....but pretty good ones. I understand that they don't compare with TWC, BUT, given the market.... we have 99.98% of local access lines, 55% broadband (dsl) service, and 78% of the wireless business in our market...which includes.... Cincinnati, Dayton, Mason, SE Indiana, and Northern Kentucky. Time Warner Cable cannot compete with CBT in our market. This is a side comment... What is with the TWC commercials??? They are some of the worst quality commercials I have ever seen. They look like they were made in a HS A/V class. Perhaps something to improve upon. Another side note...Look for a new spokesperson for CBT in the next month...Jeremy Pivin is gone.

I totally agree...I have found the Cincinnati Bell commercials to be quite good, while I continue to see dancing graphics and what not from TWC. Either way I'm upset that Pivin will be gone...I loved him as the spokesperson. Is there anything in particular that led to that decision??

March 1, 200718 yr So, that number is more than likely larger then. No its in the range of what I posted.
March 1, 200718 yr Well...that is certainly not good news for TWC then. They are actually losing the little ground they have in this market. While the top dog, is continuing to snatch up more and more of the market.

Actually, Cleveland is the fourth largerst market for WHV distibution (that includes HBO Video, New Line Video, Warner Video & Picturehouse Video), since warner distributes all time warner lines, it not broken out by division. and yes there is the potential to screen various movies on the Mall, Edgewater Park, Forest Hills Park, Luke Easter Park & Cain Park this summer, it will be run similar to how things are run at Bryant Park.

March 14, 200718 yr Not surprised. I thought I'd go ahead and start the thread...please feel free to post the story.
March 14, 200718 yr Chiquita to plead guilty BY CLIFF PEALE | [email protected] March 14, 2007 CINCINNATI - Chiquita Brands International Inc. will pay a $25 million fine and plead guilty to federal charges that it made protection payments to a rebel Colombian group that the U.S. Government had designated a terrorist group.
