Located in Northeast Cleveland, North Collinwood is a neighborhood that has experienced a lot of change in the last decade. It's glory days harken back to the time of the amusement park -- Euclid Beach-- which was a turn-of-last-century favorite. The shores of Lake Erie were mostly for recreation and beaches at that time...  and the homes, for the most part, came later in the 1910s-1930s. Lakeshore Blvd. winds its way through the area. Generally, areas south of the Boulevard are in bad shape. But there are sub-neighborhoods north of the Boulevard that were created as Neighborhood Associations when they were developed, usually with private beaches and recreation amenities. And that neighborhood bond has probably sustained these areas to this day.

Here's Shore Acres.

But actually the 3 or 4 sidestreets of Shore Acres are pretty well-maintained

The commercial district is on Lakeshore Blvd. and consists of 2-3 story buildings like this, with retail on the first floor and apts above. Unfortunately most of the commercial space is unused...and the apts are probably not very good.

Next to Shore Acres is Villa Beach Club,  which is a remnant of the summer cottage resorts from the early 1900s

what a nce neighborhood. I guess I still get suprised at how much nice housing there is throughout the city

Fantastic photos! Great to cover something different about Cleveland too rather than the same old same old....  Love the housing stock, still solid, great opportunity for new investment. The infrastructure is there on the commercial areas and not in bad shape really. I think I will call that number to ask the selling price of that one house... I love it! Thanks for posting!

Great looking neighborhood!

Great stuff.. I have always wanted to do a thread on this neighborhood...

Does anyone know how the dollar a home for the arts movement is going in collinwood?  Bob Brown presented about this program at the Planning conference in New Orleans

That's a great house.

Quaint!

I love it. Has anyone here ever done a thread on Bratenahl? I would love to see the homes of Bratenahl.

As soon as I saw the title of the thread, I was crossing my fingers and saying "wait for it, wait for it..." and yes! You got it!

MayDay, I couldn't leave out the pagoda house  :-)

That might be one of the most unique houses in NE Ohio.

I don't know.

I definitely will. My sister and her boyfriend used to rent one of the lakefront...uh-ummm..."cottages", years ago. It was in a shambles, which added to the charm. Now, it's beautifully renovated.

Anyway, I fell in love with that area then.

I went to a New Year's Party at the pagoda this year. The house was amazing, inside and out, and then you walk in the back yard, and BAM! LAKE! It was amazing.

As far as I know, Northeast Shores' artist housing project is alive and well, although I think it like most housing initiatives has slowed a bit due to the economy, particularly as artists' variant income can slow a loan approval process considerably. It's situated a bit south of here, though ... the focus is a Model Block situated in the streets to the south of Waterloo. CPAC, the Land Bank, Village Capital Corp. and Cleveland Action to Support Housing are also doing additional research and planning work this year to supplement these types of initiatives by getting vacant, abandoned and underutilized properties into the hands of artists. Stay tuned.

how cute.

(look i have 20 pages of threads to catch up on...so cut me some slack in advance)

There have been a couple threads that showed a portion of Bratenahl, MayDay had one sometime last year on Lakeshore Blvd if I recall correctly, but I don't think anyone has done one specifically on Bratenahl.

I really like this part of town and have taken a few walking tours of it. (Plus ridden the 39 down lakeshore more times than I can count)

I shouldn't do this on such a summery day but here's a pic from this past Winter at the Edgewater Estate in Bratenahl.

OMG.  The house on the left of this photo is where I grew up (on E 151(!  Lived there from when I was 5 until my father died when I was 22.  (1972-1989)  This was the best neighborhood to grow up in the 70's and early 80's.  The homes are really nice, but crime started creeping in near the end of my stay there.  I know people who are still there (or just left) and unfortunately it has gotten a lot worse.

This house on Shore Acres was abandoned for many years and renovated in the mid-late 80's.  When I was a kid I dreamed of owning this house.

What a fantastic set of pics!  I have been there many times with my camera but seem to never take pics except of the house where I grew up.  There are some really nice and unique homes there and you captured it well.

The house on the left of this pic (Shore Acres and E 151) actually has an indoor pool inside it!  The house in the middle is where my best friend lived, until he moved when he was 7.  Even at age 5, I was amazed with all the beautiful wood in this house.

Awesome houses. I've never seen the pagoda house before. Amazing!

How very cozy!  The neighborhood looks warm and welcoming even during winter!  Thanks!
