Between College and Race downtown there is an alley called L'Hommedieu (Fr., homme is man and dieu is God).

I Googled it and found (via a telegram recorded by the NYT) that Mssr. L'Hommedieu owned the Cincinnati-Hamilton-Dayton Railway back in the day.

I'll look into this some more out of curiosity, but until then do any of you know anything else about it?

I know L'Hommedieu's ancestors were supposedly Huegenots.  He also predicted that Cincicinnati and Dayton would grow together along the line of his railroad.  He was a bit premature.

Interesting tidbit, I would suggest the Cincinnati Historical Society Library.  This allow also abuts one of my favorite buildings downtown, the Lyric Piano Co. building, one of the best facades downtown!
