we went to the new museum on manhattan’s lower east side last weekend (to see the urs fischer show).

the architect is the japanese firm sanaa.

there are cool views of downtown from the 7th floor ‘sky room’ terrace -- enjoy!

*** so there it is --- a few wintertime views from over the les  ***

Nice shots.  I really like the new museum, the building more so than the exhibits (at least when I was there).. I tend to find that happens to me a lot, though.

That Gehry skyscraper downtown is getting huge, I see.

What is the new skyscraper coming up next to the city hall building?  Is that the site of ground zero?

ram you make a very good point -- the artwork at the new museum is historically hit or miss, mostly miss (urs was very good, but i have the luxury of waiting out the dud shows). still, if you visit and go you always have the terrace so its never a total loss -- bring a student ID and save $$!

urbanforever that is gehry's beekman tower, being built by the ratners (grrr!). its downtown opposite of the wtc, just below the brooklyn bridge. we happen to have a thread about it here:

That's the new Gehry skyscraper

I hate the New Museum but the views look fantastic.

Cool!  I think Toledo got the better Sanaa bldg, but the New Museum got the better view!

and if you really hate the New Museum, there's a big Whole Foods store just a few doors up that has a huge food service area offering a wide range of meals, snacks, beverages, etc.

Oh God...not WHOLE FOODS!!!

It also the best beer selection I could find in the city.  I made trips there just for beer quite a few times!

I was there for 9 months but my beer snobbery only began halfway through that!  With any luck I'll be back for 6 months in April.
