Posted February 12, 201015 yr A few photos from the Great Blizzard of February 9th, 2010. Alas, my employer didn't give us a snow day, so I decided to take a few shots during my commute. This was my view upon leaving my apartment building for work Wednesday morning. Looking back toward my building from near the subway entrance. When the weather outside is frightful, a nearly-empty subway train is delightful. There are days I miss having a car, but today wasn't one of them. Emerging from the subway at Columbus Circle, and heading down 57th Street to the office. Passing the Siberian Tea Room along the way. The view from the office. Headed back to the subway in the evening. Looking down Seventh Avenue toward Times Square. Walking back to the apartment from the subway.

February 12, 201015 yr I just can't imagine living with all that snow and cold. Ufffff. Having left Ohio permanently when I was 23, it is hard to remember months of cold weather. Looks great from a distance! Always fascinating to see, especially in New York.
February 12, 201015 yr A foot of snow is much more enjoyable when you don't have to drive in it. Last winter I lived in NYC and the snow was always pretty, at least for an hour or so before the entire city turned into brown mush.
February 12, 201015 yr Neat shots! It certainly doesn't look like the busy, bustling city I remember from visits there.
February 12, 201015 yr Bah. Federal workers have had a week off so far. We had 1.5 days. You? Nothing? Wow.
February 12, 201015 yr ^ That might be one of the few drawbacks of having an extensive rail transit system that's almost entirely underground: No excuses not to show up to work. (Our office did allow people with long commutes to leave early that day.)
February 12, 201015 yr Bah. Federal workers have had a week off so far. We had 1.5 days. You? Nothing? Wow. I haven't had a snow day since the blizzard of '78, and nowadays snow makes extra work for me. Yesterday I got more-or-less caught up, and today I took a sick-and-tired day and slept in.
February 12, 201015 yr great job! i love the threads like this where its like we're walking along with you. i had the day off or i wouldve been in brownsville that day. i head mayor bloomberg say he took the train to work and it was only him and his entourage for several stops, very odd for the typically overcrowded lex lines. today i was in the bronx and the #2 was packed both ways, winter coats take up a lot of room...back to normal!
February 13, 201015 yr i head mayor bloomberg say he took the train to work and it was only him and his entourage for several stops, very odd for the typically overcrowded lex lines. our poor mayor, always having to take the subway! when the inevitable fare increase comes I hope he'll be able to cope with the financial burden!! http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
