Posted February 14, 201015 yr This relates to the Cincinnati-Dayton metropolis thread because the story is about Springboro school money issues. The comments (101 as of this post) are a good indictment of rural and suburban interests clashing in exurbia. More expensive health plan approved by Springboro school board School district, employees to shell out more for health care; some residents object to plan. By Lawrence Budd, Staff Writer Updated 7:20 AM Friday, February 12, 2010 SPRINGBORO — The school board voted 4-1 on Thursday, Feb. 11, for an employee health insurance plan costing employees more, but also adding $800,000 in district costs. The board voted after an executive session. Before the board went into executive session, several residents warned approval would cost the district, which has seen four straight levy defeats, in future levy campaigns. more: http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/community/springboro/more-expensive-health-plan-approved-by-springboro-school-board-544374.html COMMENTS: it sure is funny watching all your rich, well to do folks, p!ss and moan about your school district. All you people moved to Springboro and out of great places like Clayton and Kettering, so you would be in a so called "better area" now look, you clowns can't pass a levy, you have empty buildings, have cut employees, and yet your idiot school board spends 800k like its nothing. I'll stay in downtown Dayton, you Rolex and BMW crowd just stay in Springboro where the grass is greener. Snobs downtown Dayton Sandy 1:12 AM, 2/12/2010 All that is expected from the district employees is the same thing that is expected from anyone else in the work force--more employee contributions. Just like merit pay increases, pay freezes, etc.; we all have to deal with reality, it's time the teachers do too. concerned 11:17 PM, 2/11/2010 Julie T. If you are correct and only three levies have been passed then why have my property taxes increased triple what they were when we moved here. I didn't realize what Springboro was until the deed was signed and now we wish we could sell and get out. boro resident 10:29 AM, 2/12/2010
February 14, 201015 yr Some people will never understand. I don't want to generalize all exurbanites... however, many choose to move to a certain area because of the low taxes and current (emphasis on current) quality of the school system. The funny thing is that they don't realize the more people move into their jurisdiction, the more taxes must be raised to support the added increase in city services, including child education. In this sense, taxes being raised on the homeowners in many exurbs is inevitable, as many are really commuter suburbs. What is also inevitable, seemingly, is the complaining done by many exurbanites when these tax increases must occur.
February 14, 201015 yr My favorite line from the Sunday morning real estate shows: "The Most House for the Money!" My budget solution? One room schoolhouses. Hey: these people were drawn to country life in the first place, right?
