Can we all stop and appreciate the miraculous turnaround of the weather for the eclipse?    As recently as Friday it was saying rain with maybe some partial clearing. Today was about as good

Is the aurora weather? Anyway, just got back from the lakefront at Voinovich. Very cool and a decent crowd on hand that was growing by the minute.

Due to supply chain issues, this is actually February snow that is just now arriving.

Why is this grass acceptable in our city? And in the middle of summer too. Anyone else find this extremely embarrassing and gets pissed off?

Almost like its been "Abnormally Dry" / at risk of drought for a few weeks now. Dry spells and brown grass happen some summers. With climate change large precipitation swings like this May to June/July will only increase in commonality/severity.

There's also brown grass in front of $800,000 homes in manicured suburbia. This isn't isolated to Cleveland parks.

There are a lot of thirsty lawns out there, including mine.  They will appreciate today's rain.

Just saw this thread lol but who will think of my bike commute!!!

But yeah, my garden will appreciate the rain to say the least.

And my sad vegetable garden too.

Just in time for the Browns @ Bills.   Could it be Snow Bowl II?   Hopefully the Browns have the same result (they won 8-0 in 2007)

Yep. I posted it in the Browns thread too. I hope they play this game. Snowstorm games are AWESOME!

Likewise--and I'll be at the game!

I loved watching the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving in Tiger Stadium.  It was usually quite messy.  That's how football was meant to be played.

In 1996, the eastern suburbs had 66 inches of snow come down in about 5 days.  Friends of mine in Cleveland Heights had to prop up the center of their old garage with 4x4's to keep it from collapsing from the weight of the snow.

I moved into my Lakewood condo right after that. We had 20 inches here on the west side from that storm. There were still leaves on the trees and some came down on utility wires from the weight of the snow.

Was that around Christmas or New Years break? I recall having an additonal 4 days off after the holiday. Had to go back to school on a Friday, but it was an amazing 2 weeks, 4 days off.

That was in November 1996.

I'll be at Orchard Park rooting on the Browns.     Orchard park is right at the start of Buffalo's "snow belt."   So hopefully they only get a foot or two.

Take your shirt off in the 3rd quarter

I had never seen so much snow in my life before that storm. I know Chardon had snow drifts of like 12-14 feet at the highest point. Fortunately, the Browns weren't around in those days to worry about playing in those conditions.

I always remember walking on the sidewalk and the snow banks were taller than I was.

I was hearing they may move the game to Detroit? Do you think they will still play it in Buffalo?

If the Browns are getting blown out I'll take my Chubb jersey off to blend in with the bills fans.

As it stands, hopefully the "good Browns" show up as it looks like the passing games for both teams will be ineffective.  Might be a good week to have Chubb and Hunt on your team.

This scenario for Christmas eve looks very similar to the Blizzard of 78... a low moving up from near New Orleans that bombs out over the Ohio Valley as it brings gulf air north to collide with arctic air coming south....

Check out those isobars!

Someone else thinks my comparison to the Blizzard of 78 is valid. Barometric pressure of 961 is forecast. Blizzard of 78 was 955 at Cleveland.

40s last night, 20s when I was up overnight, 1 degree in Sagamore Hills now.

Yeah, that happens. I remember several years ago, temps dropped from 70s to 20s within a few hours.

So now they are giving names to winter storms. This one is called "Elliott".

Cuyahoga County under a blizzard warning. I am just glad that there do not seem to be many power outages and I hope it stays that way. I feel badly for the homeless in this mess.

Apparently the Cavs game is still on for tonight. Maybe things will settle down a bit by then.

^ if only they would have cancelled it -- can't win when both garland & mitchell go cold lol.

we finally got the arctic wave in old ny this evening. it was rainy and in the 50s during the day, now its 8 degrees. no snow here, but weird wind gusts all night. looks like everything is a sheet of black ice out there.

i saw the whiteout pileup on the ohio turnpike in the news, good grief, ugh.

Sunny and -8 today in Chicago with clear roads this morning and I excitedly picked up my rental car to drive to NE Ohio today at noon.

Everything was great...until just after 94/65/90/80 split, the IN toll road was a sheet of ice under the snow and I was pretty much going 15mph with hazards on, sometimes not even seeing the vehicle 20 feet in front of me in the white out conditions.  94 to Detroit was closed (should have been my first clue).  So many cars and semis in ditches, some with people in them.

Made it to South Bend IN in about 4.5 hours (usually takes 2). Called my Mom and said I was going try and get a hotel in South Bend, nothing available so I turned back. Arrived at my place back in Chicago at 7:45. Almost 8 hours round trip to South Bend and back. Usually takes 5.5 to 6 to get to my folks house in NE Ohio. $600 for a 3 day car rental and I sit in my own house with my cats tonight. Gotta love weather.

I might try again tomorrow...haha.

That sounds horrible. I'm glad I don't leave Chicago until Monday.

Weather will be much better in a few days. Temps in 50s by next weekend.

we got warming sun on the balcony, so i was finally able to open the frozen sliding glass door. i immediately went out there and sprayed the tracks with silicone spray, which by some christmas miracle, we had a can of. 🎄

i was reading how buffalo really got hit with epic snow and wind, even for them, ugh.

Appreciate all of the Christmas miracles, big and small, but very sad about all of the storm deaths.

Happy Holidays.

Maybe we'll get a few years' break from hearing about California's drought.  Nobody cares if it rains or doesn't rain in Ohio, but no matter what happens, we have to hear all about what's happening in California.

Well, CA does grow over half of the US vegetables/fruit crops while consuming the majority of the Colorado river flow.  So, there's that. 🤷‍♂️

I was just in Truckee/Tahoe a few days ago and the amount of snowfall is incredible!   Several ski resorts there already advertising July 4 skiing.

Hopefully a bunch of that melt ends up in resevoirs!

It will, but not Lake Meade, as these storms didn't make it that far inland.

Diamond Valley Lake is mind-boggling to us Ohioans, where reservoir lakes were almost always created with a single dam.  This thing required three dams - all of them staggeringly large:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Valley_Lake

This thing hadn't taken in any water for three years until earlier this week.

This photo is just one of the three dams:
